I've been studying with Juliana Snapper for almost a whole year now, so it's about time I wrote her the raving(ly awesome) review she deserves! For some background, I'd been an armchair/car/shower singer with an occasional choral participation, but extremely shy since childhood. More recently that shyness has been easing and I've been performing as a soloist with my synagogue, and I'm pursuing changing to a cantorial career. I was looking to take my lifetime of raw, hodgepodge singing into a honed skill, to have more control over my sound, to expand my range, and to learn how to sing properly. I'll just start by saying that in the almost-year since I've been working with Juliana, my congregation has noticed and commented on the dramatic improvement. They always send my teacher their highest regards, though they have never met her. Juliana has taught me how to manage my stress levels, how to identify when tension is limiting the freedom of my voice, how to sing in my high register (with which I was never very comfortable before), and how to breathe properly for singing. She's an efficient and colorful teacher, who seems to know exactly how to describe the sometimes very abstract things you need to do to be breathing and singing properly. She has coached me through letting my head hang until my neck tension releases and you can hear the difference in the sound I produce. Whether you take a 1-hour or 30-minute (like me) lesson with Juliana, every minute is worth it. I can't recommend her more highly, it is simply not possible. I've been going to Juliana for almost a full year and I love the way my voice sounds now. Each lesson I've paid per class. Juliana has always had this option in her scheduling tool (the one in the link on her page). In fact, she even gives you an option to "pay later with cash" when you book the appointment! So idk what jasmine is talking about. I practice a lot with videos on YouTube but one lesson with Juliana feels like 10 of those videos. She teaches me something new in each lesson to and it makes a big difference over time. I'm going to miss her a lot when she moves overseas. Her approach is very personal and she knows how to provide a safe space to grow. Lastly, Jasmine has 5 yelp reviews posted. And 5/5 reviews are 1 star. She's just a bear with a sore arse. read more

I hadn't sung in over 20 years, but I finally got up the courage to try again. After looking for a few weeks, I decided to try out the offer for the free consultation. I went in with no expectations, and came out with a renewed joy in singing! Juliana clearly loves what she does, and she does it brilliantly - and that can't help but flow over into how I learn and how safe I feel to try something new and sound stupid! Her teaching style is amazingly effective and solid in technique. Don' get me wrong, she will challenge you and give you quite a workout. But in the end, you'll be amazed and how far you've come. Juliana Snapper is absolutely the best instructor I've had for anything - not just for voice and not just for music, and I've been fortunate to have some excellent instructors. She is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world on the human voice and singing and demonstrates that every lesson. I've studied with her for about 9 months now and have clearly only scratched the surface of what she knows. I came to her with some experience in singing. I had been in a band at one time and had studied voice for a couple of years with another instructor. (Unknown to me, she had also studied with Juliana and she was an excellent teacher in her own right.) In addition to being an expert in her field, Juliana will work with you on whatever you want to work on. She does not confine students to a particular style. If you desire to explore areas you've never tried, she's a great resource for that as well. I came to her singing mostly rock of one kind or another. I'm now working on some opera and have done jazz, too. She does not focus on the voice alone, she also teaches musicianship. It's hard for me to describe what that means exactly but she'll help you get the most out of your abilities and any piece you're interested in. It involves phrasing, dynamics, tempo, and texture but there's more to it than that. Besides all that, Juliana's teaching style is non-judgmental, kind, enthusiastic, and generous. Simply said, Juliana is amazing. I started seeing her for voice lessons a few years ago. I maybe had a 3 octave range at best and my breathing was completely off. With her expertise, guidance and technical knowledge, in a matter of a month, I pushed my range to nearly 5 octaves, sing songs I never thought possible and even more so, I was able to sing these songs publicly! I'm so glad I found Juliana. Her positive approach makes each session joyful as we explore what my voice can do that day. I love how open she is and how knowledgeable about how the voice works. She's also very gentle, so when I'm not at my best, there's room for that too. I could tell a difference in my voice after 2 months- more resonance and just a bigger sound in general. I wish I could give SVS more than 5 stars! Like the other reviewers, I've had absolutely the most amazing experience working with Juliana. I found her studio on Yelp about 6 mos ago. I always wanted to learn how to sing--even if it was just for myself in the car. The techniques Juliana uses have absolutely transformed my voice. I can't believe how quickly my voice has so dramatically improved. I've literally gone into sessions (several times now) with songs I loved but couldn't sing, and walked out 45 minutes later hitting notes I didn't think we're possible. Juliana is positive, encouraging, and professional, and she constantly challenges me to reach beyond my own expectations. I would not recommend this place to anyone. This teacher changes directions and doesn't ask the group to let her know if not enough people are coming to the class until the last minute. She takes people's money for 3 classes and then doesn't let them know via their text or email that the date has changed. This is not ethical. Why are you taking people's money without earning it? Why not do the pay per class like every other voice teacher does. I couldn't take it anymore. So I eat the 60+ dollars, so to speak. read more

I am a bass player currently in a band. I want to be able to sing one song and harmonize on a couple of others, and don't feel I'm doing my best. I have a very focused and limited goal. Juliana - in 30 minutes - helped me more than multiple 'lessons' with another 'teacher' years ago. Maybe it's me - I know what I want to accomplish and it's very specific - but I really appreciate not being made to do standard stuff and instead receiving her undivided attention on me, and what I want to accomplish. I agree with other reviewers. She helps you intuitively FEEL what she is saying/asking you to do. I have a 1.5 octave range in the tenor region! Happy we found Juliana on Yelp! Today was my daughter's trial lesson and right away I felt a welcoming spirit from her. Her cute studio is in a convenient location on Adam's ave and it's the perfect intimate setting for an aspiring musician to work on their craft. It's only our first visit with Juliana and I can already tell that she is passionate about helping her students find their voice. My daughter is extremely introverted and so shy but Juliana with her warm aura was able to get her comfortable enough to open up. I can see that Juliana wants to personalize and tailor my daughters lessons and that's important for us. At the end, she was able to encourage my daughter to take a leap of faith to do a piece for an audition that she would not feel comfortable doing otherwise and that's huge coming from my daughter being that she's very self conscious about her auditions. I've written a review for Juliana before, but it's been a couple of years, so I'm going to write another one. I have been singing with Juliana for 6 years and I have grown so much as a performer. I originally went to her because it had been a while since I had taken any sort of vocal/choir class and I needed to brush up my voice for auditions. I never considered singing my strongest aspect back then. I considered myself a musical theatre dancer who could sing and act, but dance was always my strong point. Taking lessons with Juliana has changed my mind set about myself as a performer. I have now done shows where I am not a featured dancer, but a featured singer. After singing with her, I will now also tell people (and admit to myself) that I am a good singer (something that I would never let myself admit before) and it has taken my auditions and performances to a much higher level. I still get nervous when I sing, but with the training that I have gotten with Juliana, I now know how to ride out the nervousness and use it to my advantage. I also no longer beat myself up if I mess up in an audition or performance, because she has taught me that its OK to make mistakes and that it doesn't mean I'm a bad performer. She will also push you to be better. Sometimes I slack and she has always reeled me back in and set me back on the right track. I have never had a bad lesson with her. I recommend Juliana to everyone who is interested in voice lessons. A number of my friends are taking lessons with her now, after I convinced them to come to a lesson with me. I'm a singer songwriter who has been performing solo and in bands for the past 17 years. I'd never taken voice lessons and wanted to become stronger singer and better understand my voice as an instrument. Juliana helped me do this. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable. I left sessions feeling much more confident with what I had learned. Juliana is an incredible instructor. I am a teacher myself, and I am impressed with how supportive, encouraging, and engaging she is. I was nervous to begin vocal lessons, because I had no control of my voice and could barely recognize pitch in it, but she helped me become comfortable almost immediately and coached me to reach levels I never expected of myself.
