Off the beaten path, right on Missouri River where rivers bubbles into Lake Case. It is 14 miles west of Platte, SD. My Garmin gps of $58 had it on its map and direction. Good price, low to me. Can pitch a tent, or rent tiny cabin, or rent larger spot for you camp trailer you hitch or drive if you have RV. Their website is a must see under South Dakota recreational areas, official government website and link for details and or reservations. The river can be seen from most cabins and is walking distance, even 50 feet away from the river. good for boaters, fishermen, hikers. Lots of birds, I even like it for a wedding site. I went twice, summer of 2011. Each time was for one night. They have a shower and rest room site and water pumps, pumping out drinking water, but for better taste pack your own water from home, such as bottled water. Has fire pits with a grill, but bring your own metal or steel grill top if you want cleaner easier way to cook. Pit is better for fire building for fun, stories, marsh-mellow or hot dogs. Bring you big cooler and stock up on rations. The small cabins have 3 good size beds, two twin and one full size. has air condition which worked fantastic. But I am not sure the heater worked as I could not get it to turn on, so if it might be cold pack as though you would sleep outside and you should be fine. Bring own blankets and or sleeping bag, pillow. it is not a hotel, it is roughing it. Cabin has lock from the inside, you get a key. You can park right next to your cabin or camping spot. The shower facility is not the cleanest but if you just hurry up, you will forget all about it. The only down side was my second cabin rental has really bad odor. i told the camp worker, but had to use my cabin whilst bad odor. I stench was on the floor. So bad it would take a good bleaching and pine-sol mopping over two days cleaning. However I had to leave the very next morning anyway so I just went to sleep, so tired anyway. I hope to go there again to rest on may cross country trip, but next time I plan to bring disposable floor covering, namely an entire box of heavy duty garbage bags to cover the floor and plenty of hypoallergenic deodorants, just in case. The other cabin I slept in was immaculate. Study the charts. As SD and surrounding states each have other camp sites to compare. This was was nice. If I go on my cross country trip again, I will surely stop at this one not just cause it is on my path, near I-90, but it was nice, quiet, quaint. Take a friend or more if you want to feel safer so far out in the boondocks. Beats hotel costs and is fun, different, and makes for good experience, educational, closer to nature. Bring your SPF sun screen and mosquito repellent and medication as you may get bit. Sunglasses a must. Drive very slow when you are within a few miles so not to miss the entrance. It is right near the bridge & river. read more
