Today I went in for my smog check that was necessary for me to re-register my car. I chose to go back to smog stop because about a month prior I was at the car wash with shares the driveway off of Woodman, and my light indicator went on that my tires were low on air. When I asked if they could help me and check to see that my tires have the right pressure in them. I offered to pay for their time and the owner of the shop (Art) said no problem just pull up and we can help you. He helped fill my tires, everything checked out and he said he did not need to be paid for that service. So fast forward to today...I went in for my smog check and he was as helpful and professional as before. He noticed my license plate # on the DMV paperwork didn't match my VIN # on my car and he asked me why there was a discrepancy. I didn't really know in that moment, but he asked if we should check in the trunk and see if there were any license plates that have been issued in the past or since I purchased the car. There was an envelope from the DMV with the new plates in my car that I had never put on. He offered to physically switch the plates for me - which he did, and completed my car's smog check as needed. He is solution minded and happy to help. His quotes and service are always great, not pricey, and he is straightforward. I am very disappointed right now. The dishonesty and lies that were told to my husband is unbelievable. No matter what Smog Stop you go to if the smog doesn't pass, every place says you can fix the problems and come back and they will run the smog again at no charge, well that was not the case. They told my husband to fix the car after the smog failed and that they would run it again at no charge. When he brought it back they ran the smog again and it passed. Then they gave him a bill of $60. My husband was confused and explained that the guy told him it would be covered. The guy (I'm assuming is Arthur) said that that wasn't true. As if my husband would make up that lie! I have been coming here for years and never had a problem but this really disappoints me and you can bet I won't be back. Yesterday, 12/12/20 @ about 10:30 am, I took my wife's car to Smog Stop (on Woodman Ave next door to the car wash next to the 110. The owner/operator charged me $50 for the smog. I showed him the online coupon with the code for $29.75 that he offered thru SmogTips.com (https://www.smogtips.com/images/$29.75%20Smog%20Stop%20Sherman%20Oaks.gif) for my 2004 Honda CRV redeemable as of yesterday. He said "older cars" costs more and his was a Star certified station. His coupon didn't make that distinction and I argued that his coupon very clearly indicated that older cars were defined as "1995 and older". He said he can't go any lower than $50! Well then why did he offer a coupon and claim to be "the lowest price" in Sherman Oaks?? I asked him for a break down of the charges. He said, $30 for smog, $8 for the smog certificate & $7 for electronic transmission. I told him that totals to $45! He then reluctantly said he'll give me a $5 discount. How's he graciously giving me a $5 "discount" after overcharging me by the same amount?? He was unapologetic, unprofessional, and obviously dishonest. It seems he's very used to deceiving sincere, trustworthy, hardworking customers and getting away with it.
