Stopped here craving a lobster roll for a late lunch, and the lobster salad popover was just the ticket! The lobster salad is definitely of the salad variety, no chunks of meat, but it tasted nice and fresh. They warm the popover, a nice touch. I've had the chowder in the past and liked it, but on this trip it was asparagus season, and my wife had the cream of asparagus. She said it was a little too salty, but otherwise good. read more

Good, basic food. Excellent potato salad with red potatoes, egg, and mayo. The grilled cheese is great, and they have several kinds of hot soup that they let you sample before ordering. We tried the corn chowder and the turkey chili, both of which we liked enough to order. read more

I will agree with a post that the pulled pork isn't that great. However, the Chilli and Seafood chowder are terrific, and best of all are the giant popovers. Unique cupcake flavors are the best this side of the CT River! Really good place, fair prices, and nice atmosphere for a chowda house. read more

They had a promotion for the Clam Shack out back - all you can eat fish fry. You are encouraged to BYOB. My husband ordered the fish fry, I had the fried shrimp and our friend had the fried haddock. The bill came to $50.13. I had called ahead to make sure they had air-conditioning in the seating area, and was told they did. We arrived, ordered food at the back area, and headed into the 'dining room'. The temperature was about 85 degrees, and the back door was wide open. The table was very sticky, and all in all, the dining experience was primitive at best - they had not even taken the plastic seal off of the ketchup bottle. Worst for us, they had no fresh lemon - isn't that a basic with fried seafood? The coleslaw has a slight pink tinge (paprika?) and isn't truly edible. The fish, shrimp and french fries were quite good, but hard to eat when it's so hot inside. So BYOB, and BYOLemon, I guess. Clueless kids running the place didn't help. read more

Went there thursday for lunch and got the pulled pork popover and corn sausage chowder. Niether was that good the pulled pork had no seasoning or bbq sauce very plain and dry, the popover was good. The Corn sausage chowder didnt have any sausage in it that i could find and the large potatos were hard. My friend had a panini that they took out of a fridge prepackaged opened it sprayed with butter and placed in the press, no freshness looked like they were out of a gas station. read more

I went here twice while recovering from a cold in search of some awesome soup and wasn't too impressed. I gave it a second chance after the seafood chowder which was way too thick and just didn't really have any potatoes and good big chunks of seafood, the flavor was ok but it just wasn't impressive. The second time around I got the tomato bisque I tried the next day had the same problem it again was way too thick and the flavor was mediocre. Would I eat there again? Yeah I guess, but I'm not in any rush. read more

Went to Chowder House yesterday for lunch. They will need to quadruple the size for lunch because it's really the kind of place you want to sit and enjoy. The Nantucket Red Chowder was absolutely delicious. The chili had a pleasant kick but wasn't too spicy to enjoy. Everyone raved about the Seafood Chowder. There was a constant line but the turnover made it possible to get a seat, yet you didn't feel like it would be fair to sit and take your time. The Popovers were terrific and a nice treat. The people working were a little harried and gave us the wrong flavor butter but that should settle down once they are settled. We think they're off to a good start and we'll definitely go again! read more

A search for "chowder" using Siri while visiting the Yankee Candle store nearby led us here. Far exceeded my expectations/desire for a decent bowl of soup on a chilly autumn evening! Arrived to find 7 amazing soups/chowders on the menu! The whole family loved this little gem and the guy behind the counter was very friendly. I only wish that they had the lobster items listed on their website available at the restaurant but we were told it was almost that time of year for them to have it..maybe next time. Simply put, simply amazing! Guy Fieri must visit this place. Chowders to die for, massive and delicious popovers, best BLT ever and amazing lobster salad which you can order in a popover! Stopped in on our way heading to New Hampshire. Located very close to 91 N, this little place is worth stopping at for some filling comfort food. The lunch special (sandwich, cup soup, can soda & chips or fruit salad) is a fantastic deal. Portions are a great size and incredibly rich. The seafood chowder is one of the best I've ever had and the egg popovers are delicious. If you somehow have room left for dessert there are scrumptious cupcakes and some good coffee (Wicked Joe's). read more

My husband and I just went to the Hatfield location Saturday afternoon (3/8). There was a couple waiting to order and there was a guy in the kitchen mopping the floor. The couple turned to us to say that no one knows they are there yet. The guy with the mop must have heard and dropped the mop and came right out to help them. I was excited to try this place as its close by and it looks inviting. Plus, all of the positive reviews that I read made me think they must have great chowder and food. Such a major disappointment. I don't even see how they can possibly have 4 locations. Either the standards of the food quality is just bad around here or people just have bad taste. If your name suggests that you are a chowder house, I would think that your chowder would be the best in the area. It was so bad that I didn't even eat it after several spoonfuls, hoping it would get better each time. It was so thick you could plaster your walls with it. There was not much flavor and I can't believe people go here. I ordered a popover and got a gourmet butter to put on the popover. My popover did not rise properly so it was all dough. My husband got a popover that was cooked really well and he got the pulled pork with barbecue sauce. It was so bad. Mushy and really bad barbecue sauce drizzled on top. The cupcakes look so good in the case and honestly can say they were, ok. Probably the best thing that we got were the cupcakes, but not worth making another trip to go get. The woman at the cash register doesn't seem like a people person and doesn't help with it already having really bad food. Another pet peeve of mine is cleanliness. The bathroom was so dirty. I would never go there again and so aggravated at the fact that Western Mass needs some quality start up places and from the inviting and well named sign, it is just a big fat disappointment. read more
