I was so bummed and disappointed with my experience. My puppy had an ear infection and he is a happy go lucky, licks your hand as you poke probe, kind of dog. The techs and receptionist were so sweet and kind to him and I. Dr. Anderson, on the other hand, was so incredibly rude. When you are in a vulnerable situation like that, you hope your doctor actually wants you there and is happy to care for your dog. She was condescending, didn't even seem to like dogs, and was the most unfriendly vet I have ever had. Normally the vet will hand my dog a treat, maybe kind of play with him, SPEAK TO HIM, or just act like they care. Not the case here. She didn't seem to want to perform the service, so I sure hope she did her job thoroughly regardless. Very unfortunate Dr. Anderson couldn't have that same energy that the other staff had. read more

Dr. Anderson was at least 30 min late and didnt even apologize for being late. She didnt spend a minute with the puppy, didnt even let him smell her hands but grabbed his head and tried to snip and pull out the stitches. The 4 month old puppy yelped and snarled. Without further explanation Dr. Anderson pulled out a muzzle (which she brought with her by the way) and ordered me, the client, to put the dog on the floor from the exam table, and put the muzzle on the scared, shivering whimpering puppy. When i tried to comfort my baby by saying "it's ok honey", she snapped at me and said "don't tell him "its ok". His behavior is not ok! U need to keep the muzzle on him at home!!!" After that she proceeded to manhandle him by grabbing him by the collar and shaking him roughly and dragging him by the leash through the exam room. At the end she dragged him by the leash to the jar of treats, reached in the jar and let go of him at the same time. He ran to me and Dr Anderson took a handful of treats and threw them at the dog and on the floor saying "there" and walked out. I have tried telling her that he is just scared and her response to me was " it is mostly fear that creates aggression in dogs!!!" Then my question is, what does Dr. Anderson thinks she creates acting like she does with a 4 month old Cane Corso puppy? Its not usually the animal who is at fault but humans and its a shame when its a professional that is guilty of such behavior. Its Dr. Anderson that should be ashamed and reprimanded and muzzled and send to training, not the animal. This clinic should seriously look into this incident, as I am sure this is not the first time something like this happened. I truly wish for a client to bring a fully grown Cane Corso in and for Dr. Anderson to manhandle a fully grown Cane Corso the way she did my 4 month old one. That ought to learn her..... I will do everything in my power to let as many people know about my experience as I possibly can because I wouldnt want any other young puppy to go through the same experience and I will write to any all available resources to make it known about the practice that Dr. Anderson runs. I've been going there for the past 4 years with dogs Marco and my new addition to the family, Rigby. It's so important that I know they are being well cared for by the staff and I've seen Ali there for most of my visits. I have used two other clinics that do reproductive medicine in the state, and this far neither hold a candle to the care we have received at Smith Vet. The other places made me feel like they didn't have time for me (one actually didn't call with a progesterone result when I used them before!), and from the get go the staff here has made me feel like they value me as a client. They have excellent communication, have been friendly and welcoming each time I've come in, and never leave me hanging and wondering what the plan is. I've seen Dr. Anderson for our breeding timing and planning for an inevitable c-section with a singleton, and she's been great. I truly have never felt more compatible with a clinic than this one. The care is top notch, the staff is fabulous, and for better or worse they're stuck with me now! read more

I am super disappointed with this place. We were there today. The receptionist was the only friendly person there. The vet was not welcoming at all. Honestly she was condescending and so unfriendly it was like she was saying we should leave. I felt so uncomfortable. It was awkward and just uncomfortable. The whole encounter was just awful. She did an ultrasound and nearly $300 later she had told me absolutely nothing of value except my dog was not pregnant and to come back next week for a second one. She literally had no information or anything of value I could not have read in a short blip online. She did tell me I would have to take my dogs temp three times a day. LOL and that I should have done extremely expensive progesterone testing and good god it was awful. I regret ever going there. The are useless and make you feel so uncomfortable I just wanted to run screaming. The lady vet has these deadly long nails. Just creepy. My kids were totally disgusted and also super uncomfortable. They used much more colorful language for her attitude. I was so totally looking forward to this. I was so happy and everything. I had such high hopes this would be my new vet. I feel so sick about it and I have to go back next Saturday for a second ultrasound. Ugh! Misery! She was that bad. When I said I didn't want to x ray at the end she like flipped her lid. She contained it but I could feel the distain. She just disapproved of me in every possible way. It's like I was not good enough to be there. Stay far away from these people. Now I feel as if their reply is a subtle threat of bad things so come. And to call me out by name. Now that's not creepy at all. Wow! I think I'll be canceling that follow up they consider free. I wanted to add. She never called my dog by her name. She simply called her the bitch. My daughter counted over 20 times she referred to her this way. My daughter is 9. As an adult yeah I get it but for my kids it was upsetting. read more

If I could I would give them 10 stars I would. The staff is friendly, helpful and professional. They performed way above any of my expectations and I was a brand new client. My female came into heat earlier than expected. Personal commitments prevented me from getting to Oregon where the stud is located. So my first experience with transcervical AI began. I learned there are progesterone levels to be taken and numbers being looked for so the female is in the best state to receive the semen. Timing is everything! Her levels looked good on Thursday and the Dr. said to collect the semen friday and overnight it for insemination on Saturday. Reproductive Revolutions in Oregon collected and sent the semen over night via FedX. I checked the package's where a bouts via the FedX tracker Saturday morning at 7am, it made it to TN by 4:23am. As I stated earlier I had commitments so I sent my husband to Smith Vet Hospital early morning on Saturday to perform another progesterone level to see if a second pull needs to be done and sent. Also for my female to be inseminated when the semen arrives. The semen was to arrive between 10-10:30am. 11am my husband calls and informs me the package has not yet arrived. I called FedX to find out the package is stuck in TN due to plane mechanical issues. I inform them of the importance of this package to arrive in MN today. Many phone calls later the package was put on a plane and to arrive in Mpls by 6pm and I was told we could pick up the package at the airport at 7pm. Note: this is now way beyond normal Saturday veterinary hours. Once I had the package I phoned Dr. Janine Anderson and she and Dr. Frances Smith met us at their hospital. They checked the sperm and all was good. They inseminated my female and we are very hopeful for puppies. I am beyond grateful to Smith Vet Hospital and recommend them highly!!!!! read more

Rather than hearing our concerns, being compassionate as we had to make a difficult decision, and showing empathy in regards to the amount of money we had already paid towards improving the quality of life for our dog, Dr. Smith was harsh, condescending, and just in it for the pay out at the end. Dr. Smith is loud, rude, and unwilling to listen to our concerns as pet owners. Here is our story: We moved to the area about a year ago and we have two dogs. One of which has severe allergies while the other seemed to be relatively healthy and normal. About two months ago, our "healthy" dog had a persistent nose bleed and, in an attempt to have her seen right away by Dr. Smith or an associate, who we assumed we could trust, we were told that they would not see her due to them closing within the next hour. (We live 2 miles from Smith Veterinary, therefore, I could have gotten her to the vet in minutes and they could have started to figure out the issue.) Instead, we were told to go to the emergency vet clinic. There, we were given incredible care, compassion, and due diligence. We were told that our pup had an autoimmune disease that was not allowing her body to produce platelets, therefore, her blood would not clot on its own without the help of steroids and another medication. Fast forward through that weekend and we were advised to make an appointment right away with Dr. Smith to continue to monitor our dog. Each time her blood was tested, it cost $60. The first week, we were there four days. Then twice a week for two weeks, once a week for another two weeks, and two more times over the course of the next four weeks, with additional charges for exams, medication, and outside blood work. Totaling around $800, not including the $800 spent having to go to the emergency vet initially because they were unwilling to see her. With each visit, I voiced my concerns of the long term side effects of steroid use and asked if there were any other options, Dr. Smith stated that she had grown "frustrated" with me, as steroids were the only thing that were "keeping her alive." My concerns were not seen as valid, regardless of the fact that I was with my dog everyday and saw the changes in her ability to control her bladder, her mood swings, her energy level, her increased intake of food and water, and her overall demeanor. As a year and 7 month old dog, you do not expect to face these issues or watch their health decline. With each visit, Dr. Smith grew more impatient with my concerns, was unwilling to calmly explain her practices with my dog, and was down right rude. On two separate occasions, the lab work for our dog was done incorrectly, which resulted improper dosage of medication and we were still charged for the blood work, as well as the additional blood work that needed to be sent out due to their mistakes. Finally, after a drastic change that literally happened overnight, we had to rush our dog in to Dr. Smith and, after already spending $1,600 towards our dog in less than two months, half due to their unwillingness to initially treat her and the other half due to my consistency as a concerned pet owner, we were given a bill of $600, $300 of which was for unnecessary x-rays that were not approved prior to having them done, along with an excessive "exam" fee, even though our dog had been seen THE DAY before. Before we were given the bill, we were told our dog was fighting an infection and would need a shot of antibiotic to begin treatment. While we watched, Dr. Smith injected the needle, was unable to successfully locate a vein, placed the needle ON THE FLOOR, injected a different medication, and then PLACED THE FLOOR NEEDLE BACK INTO OUR VERY SICK DOG. We were "advised" of all the risks related to her autoimmune disease again, asked time and time again if we had "altered the dose of her steroids without consulting Dr. Smith," (which I would never do because OBVIOUSLY I CARE ABOUT MY DOG AND HAVE SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY TO SCREW IT ALL UP) and upon my husband's arrival and Dr. Smith needed to explain the circumstances again, Dr. Smith was short tempered that I was not able to completely update my husband on my own. I could tell this because, when he asked about specific things I had said, Dr. Smith scoffed, rolled her eyes, and harshly explained the circumstances. We will not be returning with either of our dogs or for any future pets we may have. I would not recommend Dr. Smith. read more

I have to say I don't know how this place has five star rating, I brought my dog here to be tested for her progesterone levels for breeding. We did three blood draws within a week and a half. The third one I had my cousin bring my dog in because I would be gone for the week. My dog has never had any issues with heart , lungs or any vein issues with blood draws in the past. They're blood draw cause my dog to bleed in her neck and lost almost all her blood. They told my cousin that my dog was unhealthy , and that's why she reacted the way she did. Her tongue was blue you would think they would check where they took the blood to see if there was bleeding under the skin. They incubated her try to get her stable and send her out the door with no answers on why she was dying. When she got to my house my pet sitter had to bring her to Vca animal Wellness Center my veterinarians. They barely kept her alive they had to give her blood through her bone marrow, because her vein was to low on blood to get into it. They got her stable and a pulse and her heart rate up while she was in a coma they sent her to the emergency hospital in Eden Prairie. While there, they gave her another transfusion, kept her on oxygen. She came out of her coma state after fluids and all the things they did for her. Then spent another night at blue pearl, where they took care of her and fed her . I picked her up the next day, noticed she could see me, she was so weak yet but was very happy to see me. On Monday I had her checked and she was blind. Starting to get her vision back finally. But on a final note , after over 3,000 dollars worth of bills. They couldn't even apologize or except responsibility for what they did. Not even an offer to help with bills. Listen everyone makes mistakes, even vets, I would have been happier if they would have taken some responsibility and helped with the cost of her treatments to save her life. But nothing but rudeness and took no responsibility for they're mistake. So sad really, it's ok to admit you nearly killed a 7,000 dollar dog. read more

Fran has been my vet since 1990! I trust her implicitly. Started seeing her when I moved here from IL and joined a dog club. She was the go-to vet for almost all of them. I have German Shepherds and an occasional foster. Her experience and demeanor with the dogs is something you want - especially with larger breeds. I've seen the other docs there as well and very comfortable with them. Staff is super friendly and on top of things. Call backs are quick and reports are thorough. read more

I trusted Fran for a long time until she let me down Dr Smith preformed a csection on my AKC champion. Not long after the surgery my bitch developed a lump right on the incision I took her in for an exam to be examined by her fellow veterinarian. He told me the lump was a man made hernia right on the section line. This diagnosis was verified by 2 well-recognized local vets one from Inver Grove animal hospital. Both confirmed it was a man-made hernia. The IGAH vet said I should ask Fran to repair the hernia at no charge When I asked Fran to repair this hernia, she declined and said she would not take responsibility for this error that she caused my dog and that my dogs or I were never allowed at her clinic again Sad to say she earned $3,500. From me for just 1 pregnancy This occurred 6 years ago today and I will never forget it read more
