Crazy amount of pecans in this ice cream, not just your usual one token piece of pecan so that it qualifies. They have a great range of flavours from moose tracks, heath bar, lemon, blackberry cheesecake, double fudge, peanut butter cup, tiger tail and a ton more that you don't need to know since you should just get the butter pecan! In previous years they stop the operation of the ice cream bar in the store around October time so this year is probably no different. If you're out this way definitely stop in before its gone!

The best part of this store is the cutest little Asian lady I've ever seen in my life, she is friendly and always smiling, I want to pinch her cheeks every time I'm there. The amount of meat was good but I feel I would have liked more tomatoey tang. It's just personal preference but I like my Lebanese meat pies a bit spicy, tangy from the tomatoes with a touch of smokey flavour (I'm guessing from smoked paprika) and the one here didn't have those elements. The man serving me was very friendly and welcoming and I appreciated that. They are a small grocery store but also have fresh meats, and prepared foods. They sell rotisserie chicken, grilled chicken and skewered meats. They have a charcoal grill. And they have some sweets too. I saw Kunafe and Shaabiyat. I would return to try their desserts and maybe a shish tawook wrap or something else from their grill. They have a few picnic tables out front to eat at. They are located in a small plaza. My husband loves their Jamaican beef patties, which are "homemade" as opposed to the highly processed stuff sold at supermarkets. I personally find them too greasy, but they are very flakey and filled with more meat than any other Jamaican beef patty I've ever seen! Their donuts are just ok, in my opinion, nothing remarkable. If you like European-style potato salads, I think you might like the potato salad at Piggy Market. The potatoes are firmer and it's less mayonnaise-y than North American potato salad. Their prepared meals are good to grab and go, but a bit pricey for what they are, in my opinion. For example, their vegetarian poke bowl is $14.50, which is about the same price as freshly prepared and customizable vegetarian bowls elsewhere. Pricing, aside, the food at Piggy Market is generally tasty. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The shop is on a side street off the main drag. Over many, years my Jamaican born family members and I have scoured Ottawa-Gatineau, Miami and Jamaica looking for a Jamaican-style patty that can be described as 'nyam-ing' perfection. The Piggy Market delivers! How do they achieve this? I believe that it's all about their quality ingredients, mouth watering recipes, impactful blend of spices (flavourful heat) and a pastry shell that screams , "I am Jamaica Proud!" Today we visited for the first time and tried the Beef patties and Jerk Chicken patties. We're saving our next visit for Oxtail patties and any other patty menu items that we have yet to try. The Long Version: Lucky R Convenient (yeah, that's the name of the store, 2 adjectives and a letter, not in that order, lol) used to have a soft serve ice cream machine (with flavour bursts), but not anymore :( I had no idea they had it and the first time I went it wasn't working and then when I returned, they removed the machine citing poor sales due to the Dairy Queen down the street. So I never got to try it. Oh well. They still have their Mr. Freeze slushie machine though. I walk here with my little nieces to get snacks for them. Prices are the same as all convenience stores (i.e. high, lol). My nieces like browsing the store. They have these huge lollipops which the girls keep eyeing but ultimately decide on something else. They don't have that much selection for small bags of chips though, which was a bit disappointing. They have lots of big bags of chips though (selling for about $5.99 each). They do have a good selection of frozen ice cream bars, which are around $3.49 each. The man working there is very nice. The store is in a plaza. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. Honestly, it's good if you're within walking distance to grab something quick or get a treat for kids, but price-wise it makes more sense to go an extra few hundred metres to go to the grocery store or drug store at Tenth Line and Charlemagne. We mainly took notice because of their big "Free Delivery" sign. We asked the man at the counter for more information. He asked us if we went to Carleton and lived in residence, and we said yes, so he told us that after we were finished shopping around, that he'd drive us back to campus with all of our groceries. I've had some friends go to the store and have been told that they don't deliver, so I'm assuming that they probably only deliver within a very small radius, Carleton campus included. If my friend and I were just lucky that day and the man was feeling extra nice, then we were definitely very appreciative. The store is very small, though they did have many of your basic needs, like milk, bread, and some produce. My friend and I did a bit of our grocery shopping together, including milk, juice, bread, cream cheese, hot dogs, bananas, a couple of chocolate bars, and a few other miscellaneous items. The prices were higher than you would expect to pay at your average grocery store, but cheaper than you would normally pay at a convenience store. The man and what we assumed to be his wife that ran the store were very nice and accommodating. We didn't come here too often, though, as we did more bulk shopping at the Loblaws via O-Train, but it was nice to know a store like this was (still is) very close to campus.

How awesome is that? Winter is coming and it would be sweet to find a place that would save me from having to venture out on those evenings when the temperature falls below negative 20 below! So, I went in and asked the owner about the delivery service. Sadly, they do NOT deliver. But, they haven't been able to afford to buy a new sign. Dang! Nevertheless, I took a look around while I was there and found the Groceteria to be a handy little place. It has everything a good convenience store offers (chips, pop, cigarettes, magazines, etc.). Plus, it has a small produce section where you can get some fruits and vegetables (bananas, apples, tomatoes). The owners are of Indian (or at least, Indian Sub-Continent) descent, and they offer a selection of big, homemade samosas. It is a friendly store, where everyone seems to know everyone else. Pity about the delivery....!

This variety store was at the bottom of the building where I lived during a few years of…read moreuniversity. The main advantage was that you could access it without even going outside! This made wintertime and study sessions much more bearable. I would just run downstairs and grabs some cereal and milk or some other staples and go back upstairs and keep working! Prices are a little high on regular items, but sometimes it is worth it for the convenience. You can get papers and magazines here too and you could actually rent movies from a small collection. There is coffee if you are running late in the morning and bus tickets that you can grab as you are running out the door. All in all, this is a very handy spot.
