Out first visit, we had the zucchini wedges came out nice and hot, zucchini was not mushy batter light and crispy. Our server Nichole was very attentive and pleasant she made us very comfortable. I had the lamb burger without a bun, i like they had many allergy friendly modifications they are willing to make. Husband had the chicken Parm. I'm not sure what's up with this place on Saturdays. We tried to have have lunch here twice--both times on a Saturday, sometime between 12:30-2:00. Both times were"seat yourself" situations with only a handful of tables seated, maybe 10-12 people total. The first attempt at lunch, we waited 15 minutes with NO contact from any server. We didn't even see a server on the floor the entire time. We left. After a few months (this was about 2 weeks ago), we came in again, hoping the first time was a fluke or maybe we had misunderstood the seat-yourself seating. On the way in, I asked a woman who seemed to be a server if it was seat-yourself seating, and she said it was. Good. We sat down at a table within view of the bar. The server then disappeared. It was 10 minutes before I saw her pop behind the bar, where she appeared to be making a drink. I made eye contact with her and she just kept doing her thing. We left after ~15 minutes, no water, no server contact, nothing. So weird, but I feel like we gave Skylines a fair shake. read more

I've ordered from this place online and have eaten on site many times with no issues. Well today I am rethinking returning ever. I placed an online order on my way home. When I got there I wasnt greeted by the whomever was on the register. I let her know I was there to pick up my online order. She looks at me and says "are you with doordash"? I tell her no and that this order is for myself, she then proceeds to tell me she doesnt see an online order, she also never asked me for my name. I pull out my phone to try and show her my confirmation email and what I ordered she wouldnt even look , all she kept saying was she doesnt see an online order and that I need to call the "online people " not sure who these "online people " are because I ordered straight from the skylines website. Well anyway I then ask to speak with a manager. For whatever reason she shakes her head no and then says she will go check in the kitchen. She comes back out and still claims I dont have a order. She then just walks away. Another lady comes up front and I tell her my issue she instantly finds the receipt to my online order right beside the register and guess what?! Went at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Only 1 other table with a party of 2. Took almost 10 minutes for the hostess/ waitress/ bus girl to come take our drink order. With a bit of an attitude. Me and my wife finished our drinks before she came back to take our lunch order. Pretty simple order of hamburger and a sandwich. Took 23 minutes to get. Food was average. My sandwich had a broken piece of bread on top. Didn't say anything because didn't want to wait. Said she'd be back to refill our drinks and........ we'll half of lunch was done. Fresh, clean, delicious food. It's not mind-blowing but there's no garbage in this food. Went for lunch today and had the soup and half club with a coffee. Coffee was above average for a restaurant and the club was very well balanced with fresh veggies and cold cuts. Soup was a touch bland but went well with the sandwich. Skylines probably offers the best food in Clayton. All of the entrees that I have tried on the dinner menu (including the specials) have been excellent. The Stuffed Chicken is a favorite of many. The restaraunt offers outside seating which is pleasant when the weather is cool enough. The patio area is enclosed in a nice fenced in gardened area. My only complaint about Skylines is the cigarette smoke. There is not place to sit inside and be free of the smoke. Even if you eat outside you are likely to be seated around other smokers. UPDATE: 09/05/07 I continue to be impressed with the food at Skylines. Let me give this a tremendous recommendation. Try it out if you are in the Clayton area. If the weather is nice, eat outside. Not sure what has happened to this place but it's not as good as it once was. Chicken Chili was cold and dry like paste. Owner was nice about it and took it off the bill. I was alarmed when she said it dries out and they have to keep adding stock to it through the day. That tells me it wasn't fresh. Shrimp and scallop linguini was ok. Not great, but ok. BEST OVERALL RESTAURANT IN CLAYTON. If you are looking for nice, clean restaurant that serves decent American food and has a classy bar area, this is just about the only place in town. For a cold beer or a martini, a nice appetizer and a satisfying entrée, this is the place to go. Their wine selection is always pretty good too! I have had maybe two dozen meals from this restaurant. Half as take-out lunch boxes and half as sit-down lunches or dinners. Overall the food is well above average and you will leave happy. There have been a couple times over the years where one person or another was not happy with the food, but the owner seems to always be in the restaurant, and she has always made things right if we were not satisfied. That counts for a lot! *** My favorite lunch is their crab cake sandwich with slaw and a side of fruit. We have eaten here about once a month over the past year with party sizes of 2 through 8. It is our favorite restaurant in Clayton. The food is consistently good. We've had most dishes on the menu and been happy with them. The service is very friendly and usually well-timed, but sometimes can be a bit slow. Kid friendly. Our favorites are the filet mignon, stuffed chicken, jambalaya, salads, and soups. I recommend that they improve their red wine selection and change up the menu more frequently. read more

This is a hidden gem in Clayton! The atmosphere is very upscale and cozy. The shrimp jambalaya is spicy enough to wake up your mouth but not so spicy that it wakes you up in the middle of the night. The desserts are worth a visit all on their own. The waitstaff are friendly and personable. They also make sure if you're pressed for time, that other diners requirements and the kitchen are also managed to keep you on track. Do your part and allow enough time because even tho' this is heavenly, there are limits on miracles! And to the reviewer that timed them on a Saturday night -- most folks who go out to eat in Clayton are letting that be the pinnacle of their evening and appreciate not being rushed thru the experience: next time go find a food truck. A Very surprising place from the outside it looks like any other strip mall restaurant. Once you walk through the door you can tell it is different. The wait staff is amazing from the greeting to the keeping my drink filled. The food "wow" you would of never guessed you could get this type of meal in Clayton. Normally I ask for my steak a notch less done then I want it because no one ever gets it right but the wait staff once again came through and told me to order it the way i want it and it came out perfect. The owner is out making sure the staff is getting help if needed. One more important thing they have a great wine selection that is half price on what they call Winesday. I really need to pay more attention to the local spots. I went into the Skyline Cafe tonight for the first time and found the setting to be intimate and quiet. Great place for a date but it's also family-friendly. The staff was very friendly and greeted me the minute I walked in and immediately made me feel at home. After getting set up with a nice glass of merlot, I started with the skyline salad. The greens and vegetables were very fresh with just the right amount of cheese, sliced almonds and vinaigrette. For my entrée I opted for the special which was a very nice take on shrimp and grits with mushrooms and crumbled bacon. The dish came out within 10 to 15 minutes at just the right temperature and the flavor was nothing short of sinful! The portion size was more than fair for the price but I will admit that I probably could have eaten a double portion of the shrimp and grits. But only because it tasted so good and I'm a big guy. That said I did not leave the place wanting more. No, I don't work for Skyline, but I live within 2 miles and have overlooked it all this time. I will definitely be back! read more

Identity crisis. Dead on a Saturday for lunch (12:30pm). Only 2 taps - mentioned in prior review - although they are incorrectly configured. "Wild" beer (too foamy) - either due to too much CO2 or different temp at the tap from the keg. Bartender was on phone upon arrival, asking someone how to make margarita - didn't get service for an extended period due to this. Nice person. Bad service. Dining was questionable...Philly cheese steak on a pita? with marinara dipping sauce? What is that? My wife ordered a simple chicken sandwich with gouda - which was doused in balsamic vinegar...just not necessary to do this. It is like amateur hour trying to be gourmet. Just make good, simple food.
