Bear and the Beasts (7/29/22)

Skylark Lounge is a great high dive/music venue on Broadway. I've been there twice in as many nights for Underground Music Showcase this year. It felt right to give them some love, especially considering the sheer amount of foot traffic they've been receiving the past few nights. To my surprise, I've never been to Skylark before until this weekend! What the hell, man? Purchased by Colorado's golden child, Nathaniel Rateliff, earlier this year, Skylark is a damn cool bar and music venue. There's a lot going on here, so don't miss anything. Stages on both floors, though the second floor is where the main stage is. One humble pool table on each floor, outdoor patio seating, multiple bars, and the most narrow staircase leading you upstairs. For UMS weekend it's an actual nightmare, but I guarantee it's not as bad any other time of year. More importantly, the drinks are priced appropriately. My go-to has been a whiskey soda (with Old Grand Dad) for $8. Keep 'em coming, barkeep. We've seen some great local acts this weekend and I plan to continue coming here in the future for more shows. A great place to discover music or meet up with friends!

Fun dive bar, video games, whimsical decor and great service! We had drinks, not sure if there is any food. We came for the live music! Go upstairs if you are seeking the event.

Admire the floor and mural

I like this place ..... lots of variety as far as shows... I keep coming back ....you gotta go to the Bobcat room upstairs for a band.... Great bar, mural, flooring.....just feels good!!!

So lame. Like, why even leave the old one here... just to remind me why I used to like this place?

The inside of the restaurant had a mid-century modern feel that reminded me of my childhood home. After sitting down and reviewing the menu, my friends decided on the frozen rosé, while I stuck with a Coke since I was driving. The soda hit the spot, but my friends found the frozen rosé a bit bitter and weren't fans. For starters, we highly recommend the garlic bread and pepperoni rolls. The sauces served with them tasted fresh and were packed with flavor. After appetizers, we ordered three pizzas and a Caesar salad. The restaurant got busier after we sat down, and our food took a little over 30 minutes to arrive. When the pizzas finally came out, they were absolutely worth the wait. They were visually appealing, and we couldn't wait to dive in. I ordered the veggie pizza, and it was so good. Our friends got the White Tiger pizza and added prosciutto, while my husband ordered the mushroom pizza with added sausage. It took us a few years to finally try Joy, but I can confidently say they make an awesome pizza in a relaxed, chill atmosphere.

The staff was really friendly and I enjoyed the open concept kitchen where you could watch them preparing the food. The menu has a nice variety of options including gluten free and vegetarian options. We didn't have any drinks this nice but the beverage menu seemed nice as well. We both got a pizzette and a salad and everything was incredible! My friend ordered a gluten free sausage and jalepeno and enjoyed it. I got the side salad with house vinegrette and the prosciutto, burrata, and arugula- it was absolutely amazing. My mouth is watering thinking about how tasty it was. I especially enjoyed the sourdough crust. We will definitely be back for more!

Came in for dinner before the Two Feet concert and it got us in the mood for a fun night of laughter, dancing and serious burning of calories. Settled in busy South Broadway area, parking is as good as you can find it. You can go bar hopping and end up here. Or start and stay here nestled in the velvet couches or club chairs. Recently opened, it hasn't been discovered to where you can't get reservations or a spot at the bar. Place starts filling around 8ish and the club atmosphere kicks in around 1030pm. Staff is attentive without being overly helicopter as you dine or drink. Incredible drink selections are amazing with a nice selection of rum. Had the melo cocktail which features avua cachaca, a rum but sure tasted like the strongest tequila fun decision of the night. Babe had the Zona Rosa which is basically a fruit salad with tequila and rum. We ordered the ceviche de chicharrone that has such great flavors with crispy pork belly. Nothing left but a scraped up bowl. Suggest also the empanadas because you can't come here and not taste a staple item. The carne asada is amazing and basically a large slab of nicely grilled meat. LOVE IT!!!! Babe had the hamburguesa paisa which also is a nice slab of beef with bacon topped with pineapple salsa. I wish I could have had room for dessert but my slinky dress didn't cooperate. Next time... I have my eyes on the panna cotta de cafe and cheesecake guava. Looking forward to a return visit with friends. Happy to discover this cool spot opened its doors, has awesome vibes, and stuff that makes you want to get on your feet.

We were originally headed somewhere else on Santa Fe but it was packed, so we stopped in here instead and it turned out to be a great surprise. The space has a cool, slightly mysterious vibe with some Tulum inspiration from the owners' love of Mexico, but the menu also reflects their Eastern European background. It's an interesting mix that somehow works really well. The cocktails were excellent. Everything we tried was well balanced and thoughtfully made. We also ordered a few small bites and they hit the spot. One thing we didn't expect to find there is that they also have an escape room connected to the lounge, which makes the whole place even more unique. Definitely a fun and different spot in the Santa Fe area. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the escape room next time.

I've always wondered why more escape rooms don't have a coffee shop or a bar area for their participants to decompress and talk about what they just experienced. We had a great time with our escape room experience and the Mystic Lounge itself had solid cocktails. We got to try their wine flight - A Taste of the Balkans - as well as the Cody Colorado. The alcohol pour is quite generous. Their menu is extensive on drinks but not as much on the food. They do offer some bites and we tried their burek. The burek was flakey, warm, and had a hefty meat portion - which I appreciate. A wonderful concept to integrate escape rooms and bars together!

Their no alcohol cocktails are just as thoughtful, balanced, and well presented as their alcoholic ones, which made the experience feel intentional instead of like an afterthought. I tried several drinks, including their no alcohol Mai Tai, Painkiller, and a few tropical forward options, and every single one was well balanced and flavorful. Nothing felt overly sweet or flat. The Anchored Tides in particular stood out with a bold, bitter profile that still felt refreshing. The food was also solid. The spam musubi and wings were both really well done and paired nicely with the drinks. The space is fun, vibey, and welcoming, especially if you're not drinking and still want to feel included.
