The restaurant looks so cute and cosy, the staff is very attentive and really friendly - not a given in Italy! The food was amazingly good and homemade. The prices - compared to what we ordered - were very reasonable. As we come to South Tyrol every year for skiing, I am sure, we will come back to the Adlerkeller as well!

Before this happens though you arrive at the Scotoni hut tucked in beneath a particularly imposing rock wall. Once inside or outside if it's not too cold (it usually is) it is always busy as it is very popular (you can't book in advance either). They do a good selection of food but really the only reason to come here is for the grilled specialties. The mixed grill for a minimum of 2 people is the highlight although it isn't cheap or you can opt for something smaller. The enjoyment is double though as the grill chef actually works in the main part of the eating area on a traditional wood grill so you can see him preparing the food. Well worth stopping but be prepared to wait for a table.

All this plus a (limited) view of the South Tyrolean Alps outside. We toured the kitchen before eating (more bites and wine) and really wild how huge this kitchen was and how many chefs/staff were back there considering this is only a nine table restaurant.
