This gallery occupies a weird spot where freeway hits Fitzroy and is the latest incarnation of a run of galleries that have occupied the space. It's a great spot to browse the windows while toddling off to the pool but there is something strange about the emptiness of the space, like if you entered you'd be imposing on the serenity of the, often absent, store minder.
The shows seem to vary wildly from streety type art to more refined painted work, sculpture and jewellery. Much of the painted work seems a bit slap dash (though I could be referring back to a former incarnation of the room as it's changed hands many times recently) and there doesn't seem to be any real theme or commonality to it. The jewellery work that's filling the place now is exquisite, however, and I hope the gallery in its current form will continue in this vein.
The location is a problem here as it is isolated from any real kind of gallery district and being on a main arterial route into the city does nought for the ambiance of the place. It's still work a look, however, as any space devoted to art and/or craft in this city has to be embraced. read more
