Another disappointment - as I should read these reviews - so here's feedback: 1. Location difficult to find - it's in a food court 800 number had no clue eit 2. Staff very slow 3. Cars are 1/2 block remotely located - so if you are by yourself with luggage - it's even more of a hassle 4. They assigned rental knowingly the vehicle needed oil change and check engine light is on ( why I'm renting) - and were stating ok to drive - Memo to Sixt: every teenager & college student know better than to keep driving w/check engine light on 5. Jr Branch Manager Stephanie was not enthusiastic about making the situation right - grudgingly switched cars - so the motto must be customer is always right when they see it our way - The 1 Star is for offering to retrieve the car so I didn't have to lug gear back up the stairs... So I received feedback from Sixt stating they would review - ultimately reinforcing their policy that a "maintenance required" alert on the car dashboard can be overlooked - amazing that a car rental company policy equates their maintenance timing against the customers experience of driving a safe and worry free vehicle. Sell your stock!

Do yourself a favor and avoid this location. I initially rented from the Union Square location but they did not have the car class I rented available so I was told to switch it out over the weekend. I was told to go to Mission location, however, the car they had for me needed service(glc 300), it was 2400 miles overdue so they called the fisherman's wharf location who confirmed they have a Jaguar F pace they would hold for me. I drove the car that needed service to the fisherman's wharf location and when I got there they could not locate the F pace even though 30 minutes prior she had confirmed they were holding it for me. She then offered a car that is too big for my parking spot and when I told her that she said, "well you can take the glc for an oil change." I have never seen such poor customer service from ANYONE. When I informed her I worked in a hospital and could not just "take the car for an oil change on Monday" she was extremely rude and told me I would just have to call on Monday to see what was available. I ended up call the Mission store back and he was able to figure out another car I can pick up tomorrow. Glenda at your fisherman's wharf location is absolutely awful. Also...she had the doors locked and I had to bang on the doors for someone to finally come out and unlock it. I'm shocked anyone rents from this location if they have to deal with people like Glenda.

SIXT GETS SIX F's FOR BEING SHADY! Sixt loves me, Sixt loves me NOT. I went from being your biggest brand advocate to your biggest nightmare/enemy. I'm a corporate marketer by day but a Yelp Jihadist by night with the determination to ruin Sixt's reputation with my review and reveal how unethical and incompetent you really are! It all began when my 2017 Chevy Tahoe had 10.4 gallons of fuel missing at the start of my reservation. Not too big a deal to me after calling Tiffany at the front desk the moment I noticed and she advised to bring the SUV back at the same fuel (3/4 full). Let's fast forward to the end of my trip...I get my invoice by email on the final total: A WHOPPING $117 FUEL CHARGE! ($8 / gallon)!! I was even extra generous and put more gas than I originally returned it. I called Tiffany again and she mentioned whoever checked in the car registered the tank at ¼ empty. Really?! The proof is in the pudding with my before / after pictures attached. I find it highly amusing that you nailed my mileage at check-in but confused ¾ full for ¼ empty. Your employee checking in vehicles either suffers from extreme dyslexia or they might need a refresher class of Pre-Addition 101 at the local community college. False fuel penalty charges are also quite common from other reviews in different Sixt locations. I've become gainfully employed with another full-time job with the amount of follow up and time it's taken me to get my bill resolved with you guys. My first email to customer service was on 03/31 and didn't get a response and resolution until 04/10, 11 days later. Sixt- The ball is now in your court to make the situation right.THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO ANY CUSTOMER that comes through your door let alone a Platinum Sixt member like myself. Sending me a $30 voucher after writing this review to win back a once loyal customer or as a bribe to delete my review is not creative solutioning. Try again!

Customer support sends emails from a no-reply address. Stay away from this horrible company's service.

My husband had to wait over 2 hours, and the processing of those who had pick ups earlier than us was molasses / snail slow (insert any given adjectives) so that was quite frustrating. When it finally got to our turn, we got a different level vehicle than we had booked so that the SUV given to us was a major gas guzzler which we obviously did not appreciate. Thankfully, we knew we won't have to fill up till we got back to our hometown where gas prices are more reasonable than SF proper. +1 Star for the staff in charge giving customers who have waited so long (pretty much everyone that morning) a waiver from having to fill up on gas for the rental car return, that was a nice gesture and we appreciated it as we would definitely pick a gas saver vehicle vs the major gas guzzle (it was a. American car, sadly) which consumed 1/2 a tank of gas just going from SF back to Sac. This can be compared to the Korean branded SUV (smaller yes, but not by much and plenty big enough for our needs for this trip) that we rented from another rental company which had SO many choices for us that we had a hard time picking one, which used barely 1/4 tank for us to drive from Sac to SF. It turns out that this Avis location did not have cars on their lot ready for their customers and had to send a bunch of their staff in 1 van to pick up all the vehicles they needed from their SFO location to this one near the embarcadero so that was why it took so long. Each vehicle had to be cleaned on the inside and go through the car wash. Perhaps they needed to pick up cars from SFO earlier before their customers' scheduled pick up time and maybe even late in the night the day before. In short, it was a disappointing experience, and thank God we were not in a hurry to get somewhere like many of the other customers were, who has to catch a flight or get somewhere on time. Otherwise, we'd been extra stressed, so we waited over 2 hours, from our pick up time, but at least we did get gas comped and the vehicle was relatively new although quite gas consuming and not the smoothest drive, according to my husband. Hopefully Avis would be better next time.

TLDR: 2 stars for delayed pick up (cars not on the lot and not ready even after they arrived), but…read more1 star added for gas comped. Long Story for those who enjoy a long walk in the park: we rented a car to drive home from SF after a trip. 2 stars: The car was not ready and I had to wait over an hour beyond my scheduled time to receive the car. Many others who booked for pick-up times 1-2 hours before my pick-up time had to wait over 2 hours to get their cars as the cars were still being transported from SFO to Beach Street office that morning instead of earlier and they were not yet washed or detailed, so everyone had to wait and there was a huge line. 1 star: It was appreciated that the staff compensated by waiving the gas so that we did not have to refill the gas, but we also got a gas-guzzler we would not been happy with, so it was fair for the time we had to wait and the lack of choice of cars (we would've picked a better gas-mileage, more fuel efficient standard car which was the category we had booked), that we were comped the gas. We do appreciate this convenient location to the SF Fisherman's Wharf, but there should be better coordination between this office and the SFO one to ensure there's enough cars for the rental appointments pending at this Beach St. office. Total = 3 stars: Thankfully, I was not in a hurry to catch a flight or go somewhere other than home after a trip, but others in the line ahead of me were in danger of missing their flights, etc. and in fact one person had to abandon their rental car reservation and had to opt for an Uber in order to get to their flight on time and not miss their flight.

I had the absolute worst experience from Hertz this week. And before I get to that, I want to highlight something horrible that set off the rental. The internet was down so even though I pre-checked in on the app, I was delayed. Then he decided to do it with paper form, but he took a photo of my driver's license and credit card. WHY THE HELL did he do that? He claimed he didn't want it on the form. So instead, was it okay to have it on the phone? I was NOT happy with that and asked that it be deleted, and he said he would when the internet was back up. I am still worried about potential fraud or theft. And it gets worse.  On my way to my destination, I blew a tire on the very busy six-lane Hwy. 101. I called 911, and the dispatcher alerted a tow truck driver for roadside clearance. She also said, because I was alone, to keep my seatbelt on and lock my doors. How very reassuring.  An officer arrived and offered to change the tire for me while we waited for the tow. He popped the trunk: NO SPARE TIRE. He said he had never seen that before. There was a jack and a spot for it. But the tire was removed.  Because Hertz removed a basic simple safety tool, I had to be towed from the highway and dropped underneath an overpass. (The company's role is only to remove vehicles, not to help beyond that.) There was trash and debris everywhere, broken down cars, and apartments that were junky. I WAS SCARED.  I called Hertz and the bot that answered kept telling me my reservation was cancelled, which it was not because I obviously had my car. It was very stressful. I finally talked to a real person who contacted a AAA towing company. I picked up a new vehicle at the airport Hertz - the rep there was very nice. But by then it was almost 5 hours after I picked up my car and I was only driving what should have taken 30 minutes. I missed lunch, a business meeting and other work time.  I was charged $120 for the tow - WHEN I WAS PUT INTO A SITUATION BY HERTZ in San Fran. NOT the end of the story. When I returned the new vehicle on Feb. 4 at Fisherman's Wharf site, the rep shrugged and said not all vehicles have spares. I said it has a jack and a spot for the tire - the tire was missing. Then he backpedaled and said it depends on the state where the vehicle came. THAT IS AWFUL.  It should not matter if I rent a car from California or Arkansas or Illinois or Texas. SOMEONE at Hertz put me at risk, and there was no remorse, concern or attempt to fix.  This is a massive safety concern.

Amazing location for San Francisco residents living in this part of town and not wanting to hike all the way to SFO or deal with the mob scenes of Union Square. Hailing for Manhattan, I'm just so not interested in owning a car. ZipCar is amazing for a few hours to a day, but a proper rental car is best when you want to go somewhere farther away for a long weekend. My biggest issue is that the hours are convenient for the workers, but not so much for customers. You can drop off past closing time (5:30PM on weekdays, 1PM on weekends) until midnight, but will have to pay an extra $15 valet fee. Very inconsiderate to customers since long weekend trips usually end late in the evening, but worth the $15 just to be done with it all. The lone guy at the desk was very quick and nice. I liked having the hotel valet take care of bringing out and returning the car to avoid obnoxious parking garage navigation myself. I didn't experience any of the delays other people complained about, but then again, I was the only customer each time so that might have biased things. The price was very reasonable, just google "Budget Coupon Code" before you book online to find some discounts. Try to avoid the add-on fees, I mean who pays $15.95/day for GPS when everyone's smart phone has Google Maps nowadays? A cheap car phone charger can keep you navigating the whole time despite battery hungry 3G. Also, research your credit card's car insurance policy, it probably covers a lot of the things Budget offers (and you know their sales people won't tell you about redundant coverage!).
