Like a breath of fresh air on a bright sunny day you can't help but feel happy once you enter. Being a little up along Latrobe Terrace, you are further away from the hustle & bustle of Given Terrace, & Francesca's Flowers feels like a country retreat. There's of course lots of gorgeous flowers inside, a variety of fresh bouquets in vases & pots, providing a rainbow of colours. There's a tea-room that has a cosy familial feel, brightened up by colourful tissue paper pom poms hanging from the ceiling. A large central communal table is decked out with flowers & tiny pots, from where guests can sample the variety teas, as well as enjoy the fresh cakes sitting under glass jars at the counter. The back room looks perfect for a book-club or gathering for mums & dads, as there's a kids playroom cubbyhouse, a converted walk-in wardrobe. Fully packed with stuffed toys, games, puzzles & books & colouring pencils & paper, we wanted to play in there ourselves! We decided to spend our time at the front verandah from which to take in the serenity, feel the rays of the sun, & sip on our beautiful flavoured teas from the Tea Centre. Perfectly accompanied by a gluten-free almond & orange cake from Jocelyn's provisions. All we needed was a good book, & we could have spent the entire day there. To top it off, we asked Francesca to put together a small bouquet for us, to reflect "happiness". What she came up with was absolutely lovely. Francesca, always had a dream of her own business where she could express her creativity. Thankfully this dream is a reality, and the rest of Brisbane can share it. Come to Francesca's Flowers, you will not be disappointed.

Why the 2 stars when the others gave 5 stars?…read more Because it's an all out rip off. Who wants to pay $12.50 for a single scone with a smudge of cream and a blade of jam? Worse, who pays $19.50 for a sub standard egg and lettuce sandwich that has the crusts cut off and comes presented in triangles. Christ! A cappuccino will cost you $5.20 and it's nothing to write home about. You would only pay so much for the pleasure of sitting in such a regal, ornate den as this one is. Sure, I gasped and clasped my hands together upon approaching this cafe. There's fresh roses on each table, and there's floral patterns everywhere. On the chairs, on the tables, on the dresses that the customers wear. However, the quaint joy of the whole experience soon vanished upon opening the menu. The prices are criminal. After getting over my disbelief, I ordered a slice of cake for $14.95. Well, disbelief turned to disgust when I saw what I got for my money. If I order a cake for damn near $15 dollars, I want to see immaculate presentation, I want a mountain of cream AND ice cream to come with it, I want offensively shiny polished cake forks to be presented to me by wait staff wearing gloves....let's just say, I want so much more than what I got, which was a humbly presented slice of cake that really didn't taste any better than cakes I'd had elsewhere. It is a unique setting, yes. But it's really not worth how much it will cost you.

Room with Roses is, quite literally, the most darling little cafe I've ever seen. If it was a…read moreperson, I'd hug it hard and not let go. But actually, it's more than a cafe. It's an experience. I'm not normally one to frequent a tea room (I'm more about binge drinking wine in a bar), but this is a place of such fabulousness that I'd happily live there. It's all 1940s glamour (in the Chandelier Room) with a splash of retro kitsch (like floral patterned furniture, and huge, throne-like cane chairs with flowery cushions) and a whole lot of style. From the home-made biscuits and preserves, the waiting staff dressed in crisp black and white (all wearing ties, even the girls), and the cappacinos (delivered with the froth in a heart-shaped pattern) this place defines the word divine. The only drawback? Unless you're just dropping in for a coffee or tea, It's not cheap. Sandwiches start at just under $20 and the light lunchtime meals are even more exy than that. It's always pretty booked out around lunchtimes, too, so beware. But I'm quite hooked on the idea of having High Tea here for my birthday. At $42/head (with an extra $7.50/glass if you want bubbles) it's not a bargain. But from one quick glance at the menu I'm sold. Think raspberry scones, ginger scones, mini salmon cakes, chocolate "heaven" cake...have I convinced you yet? They'll even do gluten free options if you pay a little extra and give them enough notice. I think I've found the venue for my wedding (yes, they have had them here). Once I've found a man to marry, that is (anyone know where all the straight men over 30 hang out?)

There are so many knick-knacks in this place you can buy to add to someone's collection like tea sets or lead lamps, or glassware. It's a very cute little place with incense lining some bookshelves ready to sample and take home to enjoy. You walk through from where everything seems dark and gorgeous and wooden into a section that is pink and white with doilies and runners and blankets that inevitably reminded me of my grandmother. I bought a really funky foldable clock and a jewellery box masquerading as a book. So gorgeous and so cheap! Never have I come across a place that sells such beautiful and original wares for such amazing prices. It just goes to show you that it's true the further out of the city you go for shopping, the better the prices will be and generally, the nicer the staff. The lovely ladies here were all too happy to wrap my purchases and listen to me drawl on and on about how much I loved the shop. There's a really cute little café just through a doorway too if you'd like to look over your purchases with a cup of coffee.

The shop was airy and well set out leaving plenty of room to browse and not leaving you bumping into others or wanting to get your purchase and leave. I love the fact there was a good variety of unique gifts to suit both male and female. The round beach towels are a great find and the jewellery was magnificent and gorgeous. The flowers were Devine and fragrant and very well priced. I brought a beautiful for you seal stamp and wax for $15 and it was very well made and not cheap looking. If you want to browse for something a bit different this is the place, I loved the abundance box that included incense cones, crystals along with little bottles of lavender and more. Though these were lovely they are just way too visually pleasant to use and would make a great item for that side board or table in a hallway. Whilst there Lani our gracious Yelp host brought in some petite amazing cupcakes with little tubes of alcoholic delights made by Fiori Bakehouse and these were moist and delicious and just the right bite size with many flavours to suit all tastes. The only downside to The Showroom is parking as its right on LaTrobe terrace which means fighting for on street parking though with bus stops nearby I would suggest catching public transport. Also available in store was soak society with some very Devine smelling salts guaranteed to leave you tingling with refreshment. There was also Anise Botanical skincare range and I really liked the gardeners hand cream without the harsh fragrant smell that can often come with hand and body creams. Overall 4 out of 5 stars. I will be back for early Christmas shopping.
