We visited this historic site and had a nice short guided tour of the building. The story was very interesting. The site was a hair salon in more modern times, which was built on what now is known to be a synagogue dating back to the 14th century and was discovered by chance while the building was being evaluated for a real estate project. When the discovery was made the building project was stopped and instead recovery works were started to uncover the historical site. A mikveh, or natural water pool used for purification rituals was also discovered here along with a women's gallery, reportedly signifying that this mikveh was specifically utilized by women only. As per our guide, this type of mikveh is unique and one of only a few in the world. The entrance fee is 5 euro per person. read more
