Smothered rosemary porkchops with side of baked mac n cheese and corn bread.
Chris W.

Hidden GEM in Savannah that is located outside the tourist district. It's small and cozy, decorated with inspirational quotes inside and out, adorned with plants bring life to the dining area. The BEEF POT ROAST AND GRAVY was so good on my first visit, I wasn't sure I could order anything else. However I built up courage to try the SMOTHERED ROSEMARY PORKCHOPS. OMG...my new favorite. Super tender, moist and covered in a savory gravy. You select two sides. I love the CORN BREAD and BAKED MAC N CHEESE. I haven't tried any other sides yet. Corn bread is fluffy and buttery with touch of sweetness, while not being sweet. Baked mac n cheese is just pure goodness. This is delcicious down home cooking. It is comfort food. The owner is super friendly and hospitable. She works the order counter and I suspect she is integral in the food prep.

Pot roast, green beans, mac&cheese Fried chicken, collard greens and mac&cheese

Very nice people. My Honey and I had dinner about 7pm. They close at 8pm. You order at a plexi-glass window. We had two people aged of us and it took a while for her to take our order. I orders were pot roast, green beans and mac&cheese, fried chicken collards and mac&cheese. The fried chicken is cooked to order. We ate at the reaturant. Seating is limited. We were challenged by the neighborhood beggars inside and outside. The food was okay nothing to rave about. The best part was the Mac& cheese. The collards taste out the can with no seasoning and the pot roast had no flavor. I first had scraps of the pot roast but asked for more meat and I was willing to pay. Meals were served in carry-out container and we used plastic utensils. The total was about $48.00. This meal was not worth that much especially being served with plastic items. I would not vote this resturant as the best soul food.

Mac and cheese and broccoli

Ordered fried chicken, mac and cheese, broccoli, ox tails, and collards. As other people have said, the collards weren't very tasty because they're basically vegetarian. The chicken was a bit dry, but the breading was good. The oxtails were way over salted and it was just too much. The mac and cheese was enjoyable.

Service was great. Restaurant was clean! I loved all the little posters, photos and positive plaques. They ran out of sweet potatoes but were quick to get me something else.

Seriously some of the best food I've ever had. First time ever having oxtail (literally fall off the bone), mac and cheese and spinach. All of it top top notch!

Every time I come and trying something new the food gets better. And the owner (Rachel) is such a beautiful person. Her daughter is always nice and helps me make up my mind when I'm too hungry to make a decision. ‍

I've lived in Savannah for a few months now and eaten pretty well. This was hands down the best meal I've had since moving here. And the service was not just friendly but warm and welcoming. I will be back a LOT.

I'm a sucker for a good sign!

This is a place where the name says it all. It's very inviting and not only are the staff nice and attentive, they make you feel at home! With that being said, the food is. . . made with love! I've been a few times before writing this as I didn't want the excitement to overshadow the truth. I'm here to tell you that some things can be too good to be true but this is not

Fried shrimp plate with yellow rice, greens and mac.

Came across this location through a yelp search. The young lady taking our order was very polite and friendly. Funky classic rnb playing in the background. Indoor deco was like an indoor garden. Great variety of items on the menu. ( breakfast is served all day) I opted for the fried shrimp rice plate that included two sides. (10 medium shrimp on a bed of yellow rice- white rice is also and option, macaroni and cheese and greens so good make me wanna slap your mama lol) I highly recommend!!

Pot roast

This place is phenomenal, honestly each dish here is more delicious than the next. Completely from scratch! When I tell you the flavor/ seasonings are spot on...! Perfectly cooked....Heaven!!! Miss Rachel & staff....thank you for literally putting your heart and soul into this place.. it shows and I will be back several times a week

Me waiting on the meal of a lifetime!

Definitely a great soul food spot in the city. The food was soooooooo good! Stopped by while visiting from Nashville. Mark my words, I WILL BE BACK!

Mrs Wilkes' Dining Room - Sooo many sides...all so good!

It honestly reminds me of that 'Country Greek' hospitality where nobody leaves hungry. The food is just phenomenal. That Fried Chicken is easily some of the best in the South, perfectly crispy and seasoned. I couldn't get enough of the Sweet Potato Soufflé and the Creamed Corn, which was so fresh and rich. The Macaroni and Cheese was exactly how it should be, thick and flavorful with that perfect baked crust. Every bowl they brought out was delicious, from the Butter Beans to the Flaky Biscuits. If you look at the photos, the sheer amount of food is mind-blowing. It's like a massive family feast every single day. Eating on Jones Street in such a historic spot makes the whole thing feel like a core memory. It is absolutely worth the wait.

The restaurant is communal style and only opened from 11am-2pm. There are about 8 oval shaped tables total that can seat approximately 8-10 people per table. I believe they said they can seat 75 total. When you go inside, at each table they'll have sweet tea and plenty of dishes of food for you to choose from already on the table. The options included fried chicken, sweet cornbread, biscuits, green beans, black eyed peas, Mac n cheese, squash, okra, dirty rice, collard greens, potatoes au gratin, Lima beans, pulled pork, beef stew, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato salad, and maybe a few more options. You pass the dishes around the table and load your plate up until your heart is content. The best items to me were the fried chicken, sweet cornbread, and peach cobbler. The dirty rice was undercooked and there were hard pieces. Everything else was just sustenance. If you're a vegetarian, your options will be limited to sides only. You might be able to have squash, Mac n cheese, and maybe potato salad. Many of the items are cooked with meat or made with beef or chicken stock. It's $35 flat per person. Based on the 2 hour and 15 minute wait, I don't think the food was worth it. If the wait was 30 mins to 45 mins, maybe.

It will take some time to get your food if you get the fried chicken but it is worth it! It's cooked fresh to order. Hubby ordered the ox tail special with mash potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese. Daughter ordered four piece fried chicken with sweet potatoes, and I ordered the three piece fried chicken with greens. Some of our sides were an upcharge but it was worth it. Everything was delicious, we shared our sides. Hubby ordered banana pudding and finished it before we got out of the bathroom! The bathrooms are unisex and so clean and cute! The food did take about 30 minutes to come out, which was a bit longer than expected. Overall, I'd rate the food a 3.9 out of 5;it was good, but not quite exceptional. One thing to note is that there's a 2% fee added for dining in, and some of the menu prices felt a bit on the higher side. That said, it was still a decent experience overall and worth trying if you're in the area.

The host was immediately rude and irritated that we didn't have a reservation, despite the restaurant being nearly empty on a Tuesday afternoon. The food was awful--think Golden Corral, but worse and more expensive--and definitely not worth it if you don't like seafood. Our server told our toddler he'd get a pirate-led tour of the tunnels if he behaved, which was a big reason we came. After eating, we were told there was no pirate on staff and no tours at all. Our son was disappointed, and things got even worse when the manager walked by and knocked his Dum Dum out of his hand without apologizing, just saying he could get another one. TLDR; Total waste of time, garbage food, tourist trap, false advertising, and rude staff.
