I have been a customer at Simi nails for two years. I have referred Jhanvi to my mom, sister and three friends. Lately I have noticed that the nail polish is hard and not the best quality. Today, I went in to get a pedicure and gel manicure. While doing the pedicure, Jhanvi mentioned that the nail polish was thin and she would do three coats. I expressed that I was concerned about it drying properly. She said "no no, it will dry." While doing my gel manicure, I kept an eye on my toes and noticed the nail polish was pulling together on the big toenails and was drying with air bubbles. I pointed it out to Jhanvi. She looked at it. When she finished the gel manicure, she dismissed me. I then asked if she was going to fix my toenails. She said it would cost $5.00 to fix the left big toenail and $10.00 to fix the right toenail. I asked why because I did voiced my concerns about three coats and then I mentioned the way it was drying while she was doing my manicure. I didn't even leave the chair. I was in the salon within the hours that were scheduled for my appointment. Jhanvi then started raising her voice. I paid, then went over to Simi Hair Salon to look for the owner to address my experience, but he wasn't there. I spoke to someone else who works there and showed her my toes. I have been to Simi's several times over the past months but was unable to review them as I couldn't locate on yelp. I went so far as to review them on Li's restaurant's page instead of just adding them. Sometimes I kill myself with my special brand of lazy. Simi is located in Emerson Plaza next door to Li's Chinese and across from Val Brook Diner. She recently renovated with shades of burgundy, giving it a more grown feel and it's more spacious. If you don't have an appointment and you're in the area between 10am-2pm on a weekday, that's a fantastic time to drop in. I've gotten a hair snip (not cut) from the hairstylist that shares this space. It was good. I've noticed the care she takes with her other clients as well and it's always loving attention to detail. She has a good rapport with them. As for Simi? Simi is a wonderful person. Soft spoken, kind and she took wonderful care of my brows. The guys like Simi too because quite a few of them have their brows "cleaned" here. The reason I stopped coming is simply because she trained a new eyebrow technician, (saw her in training many times myself) and try as I did, whenever I went for a thread I would always get the new lady. Mind you, the trainee isn't bad, but with my eyebrows and nails I'm very particular and when I find a tech I like, I don't want to be passed around. As a men I vas very hesitant to do this treatment but thanks to simi, I learned that this was actually what I needed and was looking for. I am getting six sessions to remove my facial hair. This was not only the worst in terms of outcome but also the worst in terms of treatment/experience I've perhaps ever had at a salon. I feel like I'm giving it too much credit by calling it a salon. It's basically a threading place that decided to start doing hair & laser hair removal. To start, the place is totally shabby. I'm no snob, if the services had been great well then, shabby would be fine. I should have been more aware of how few hair colors they carried & the fact that my stylist asked the owner before every step & appeared to have no working knowledge about dying hair nor cutting hair but we'll get to that. When they picked out the color, I agreed it was a match. However when they took the 30% volume developer out of the cabinet, my gut said to say "No, use 20%." But I actually talked myself out of it because I thought "She's a professional & you've never worked with this brand of color." I regret thinking that now. I've now got roots 2 SHADES LIGHTER than the rest of my head! At first the owner agreed & asked me to come back Tuesday (this was Saturday) because, and I quote "We close at 7." Really? Even when your client looks like a skunk? The haircut was absolutely pathetic. I originally wanted about 2" off my ends (my hair is very long, one length all around), but when she showed me her perception of 2" I just said yes knowing I would need to get a 2nd haircut somewhere else. Her 2" was about 1/3". She didn't even comb the front of my hair forward to cut it, she combed it to the sides. Then it was time to pay. We had agreed in advance on the Groupon price, which I get 25% off of because I pay for Groupon Select. I told the owner I would pay for the cut & dry but not the color. SHE FLIPPED OUT! She starts yelling at me that "my type" wants everything for free & that she knew from the second I walked in I was "like this" (meaning wanting to cheat her). So she said, hysterically screaming at this point "We don't want your money! Just leave!" I then tried to tip the stylist $20 & the owner stopped me & said "No. We don't want your money." I thought to myself "Good because now I've got to pay someone else to fix this mess!" It was horrendous. I have NO idea how they have so many positive reviews. I swear that everything I've said here is 100% true. There are so many better places to go (like all of them). read more

Worst electrolysis. Do not go here. He either doesn't know what he's doing, or purposefully does a bad job so that hair growth accelerates so you think you need to keep going back. I went to Simi to get a haircut, Tania who cuts the hair seems very confident in cutting and destroying the hair. I showed her a pic of bob haircut and she said she is VERY professional at doing that cut in particular. She told her sister to wash my hair, her sister doesn't speak a word of English so she couldn't understand when I was telling her my back started to hurt the way she had me sitting down at the hair sink. Tania's sister didn't wash my hair properly from the back, they weren't even wet. Then Tania saw the picture of Bob haircut I had shown her in the beginning. She cuts my hair so unevenly and destroys my hair. When Simi the lady who owns the store saw it, looked surprised. she couldn't say a word. Simi is very gentle and knows what she's doing she's great at doing eyebrows and facials , but she has a bad hair dresser. I regret going to TANIA at Simi Beauty Salon. CHOP SHOP ! This was the worst experience of my life. The lady, whatever her name is, who did my eyebrows was extremely rude and kept tapping my head every time she wanted me to hold them for her to thread as if she doesn't have a mouth to tell me to hold. The she kept threading and cutting on my left eyebrow excessively. Come to find out when I look in the mirror, the corner of my left eyebrow is pretty much gone. Extremely arched and very thin. And when I pointed out the thinness of the left eyebrow she said it was already thin when my eyebrows are on my face every single day of my life I know for a fact my left eyebrow was not already "thin" for it too look like that. And even if it was, how come my right eyebrow looks fine ? Why not match it ? And it didn't matter what I said her excuse was "it was already thin. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Simi does great eyebrows and I would only go to her and not the other girls at the salon. They aren't as good. My eyebrows always look perfect when Simi does it. They also have an electronic points system which is convenient. No having to remember to bring your card/get a punch for each visit. The shop is always clean and usually not a long wait to see Simi. I usually call 10 mins before I plan on coming to make sure she's available. There is also a huge lot to park in and I've never had a problem finding parking which is great since it's on Merrick rd. I have been using Simi for my eyebrows for over 3 years , it's always been my favorite spot. Simi is the best at them , and the other women have gotten better and better. Unfortunately I will not be using them again. This is because in May I needed to get my hair cut and colored after growing it out for 2 years . My first thought was let me support a small business and go to Simi. My husband got me a gift card for Mother's Day and I went in. I showed the woman a picture of what I wanted and she said she could do it. The day of my appointment she said She might not be able to get the color but she will try ( 1st red flag). The style was a baylage. She began bleaching my hair and I noticed it was was not the same as when I have gotten a baylage elsewhere. Fast forward, my hair came out nothing like I had wanted even though during the process she said she could get the color not to worry. My roots were supposed to be dark brown almost black with a grey baylage . It came out some ugly blonde with a few grey highlights here and there, like an old blonde woman going grey. Nevermind my appointment started at 10:30 and I didn't leave until 4:30. I basically paid a professional price for something I could have done home In the bathroom. I came back an hour later saying It was not what I was wanted and it needed to be fixed. The whole time the hair dresser and owner were trying to change my mind , now Suddenly it was an ombré etc etc. I said I would settle for blond highlights but no... I came back a few days later and she put a darker toner over to make it brown and darken my roots. Again nothing like I wanted. Not even a month later the color washed out and my hair is a gross brassy color and so damaged. I went back and forth about Leaving this review but the damage done to my hair is inexcusable. This is my trusted eyebrow place! Simi (the owner) is a doll and does an excellent job. Everyone here is very nice, all smiles when you come in. I come specifically for threading but i always see people getting their hair and makeup done.. bridal parties especially, and from what ive seen they do a great job. Simi is very informative with all things beauty, she answers all my skin questions, eyebrow questions and helps me, all while im in her chai4Ive had my brows done by another lady, i didnt catch her name but she also did an excellent job. I had dropped in several times for eyebrows within the week, I tried weekdays weekends, daytime and after work. She was always too busy to see me, closing, or had a +30 minute wait for eyebrows. This is my go to place when it comes to eyebrows threading. The owner Simi does a great job with eyebrows. HOWEVER I went here for a haircut a few days ago because the salon that I usually go to was all booked up. I used a Groupon deal for a haircut, blow dryer and deep conditioning. It was honestly a HORRIBLE experience. I am not sure if it had to do with the fact that I used a groupon deal. When I presented the deal, I was told that you will have to pay EXTRA for the blow dryer since my hair length was longer which I was fine with (but this was not mentioned in the deal!). First for the shampoo and wash, the woman used COLD water to wash out my hair. I had to tell her to adjust the water temperature. Than she was so harsh with washing my hair, I had to literally tell her to stop and to go easy on my hair! All this + she got my back and sweater from the back all wet. The whole time I was sitting in that chair, my neck and my back were killing me because I was so uncomfortable and could not wait for her to get over with the wash. Than for the haircut, oh MY!! My hair cut came out so choppy and just NOT a flattering look. I have to go back to my regular salon to have my haircut fixed. read more

So I got a Groupon to do electrolysis with this salon. The Groupon was good for two visits. The first visit was great. The guy doing the electrolysis did his best to make me feel comfortable and calmed my nerves because I was nervous of the pain. I was very satisfied with my first session. On my second visit I called from my job phone around 1030/1100 am to schedule and appointment for electrolysis at 430 pm. I CLEARLY said electrolysis. I left work a little passed 3 and arrived a little passed 4. I walked in hoping the guy was there so I could be seen early. The lady informs me that he left for the day and will not be coming back. She said she tried to call me but the number I called from was my job phone to ask me if I can come earlier. This infuriated me because I left around 3 o'clock. If you're going to ask someone to come early to their appointment why wouldn't you have called sooner? Then she proceeded to tell me that the lady who answered the phone didn't know what I was coming for and that she wrote down laser. So what I don't understand is, if you had the impression that I was coming for laser (which she said she can perform) then why were you trying to call me and tell me to come early. So that was clearly a lie. So not only did I waste a hour of driving to not get the service wanted. She did not apologize and told me that I needed to reschedule. She never offered a discount or acted in a way that it was a mistake on their behalf. I was so annoyed I just walked out. Honestly I just felt that was bad business and I get it was a misunderstanding but I drove one whole hour to not even receive an apology. Smh. BEST SALON IN THE AREA!! Where do I start? I have been going to this salon ever since it opened... initially for eyebrows, then for hair styling (cut, root touch ups, highlights, etc), now i am doing the laser hair removal process too. The service is fabulous!! There are salons where you walk in and they all look at you from head to toe... I don't know why, and i am referring to the high end ones as well as the small ones, but Simi's (owner) welcome is very warm and pleasant. She takes her work seriously, if there is an issue she will handle it and resolve it. She wants to make sure ALL of her customers leave happy. And, I have seen her handle the obnoxious ones, the ones that nothing makes them happy. Simi is great, but she is not a mind reader, if you don't tell her why you are not satisfied with the service, she will not know. You need to tell her, and give her the chance to fix it. First time here the other day, let me just say that Simi is the best! She also is the owner. She is super sweet and nice. I'm very picky with people doing my eyebrows but she seemed to know her stuff and especially after reading these reviews I had to give it a try and I'm so happy with the results. She asked me how I liked my eyebrows and I was shocked never had been asked that so off the bat she was a favorite already. One eyebrow has always been more round toward the front and she fixed it!
