I just wanted to tell every one about this place. We celebrated our 22th year of house boating on Lake Shasta with Silverthorn last year. Each year 19 to 25 of us gather at Silverthorn marina from all over the U.S. and Canada. A bit of history, in 1988 five friends were looking to spend a few days fishing and relaxing some where and we met Sue and Jane at the boat show and they offered us the "Fisherman Special" and we said yes. We went and had the time of our lives! The next year we could not wait to go back. Over the years we told our other friends about the trip and they wanted to go. As time went by guys moved away but they would come back for the trip each year. We now have folks that come from Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Maine, Hawaii, Georgia and all over California from San Diego to San Francisco. There is even one that fly's in from Canada every year for the trip. Many years ago my dad came with us now my son plus we have 3 other sets of dads and sons make the trip. A lot cases we only see each other once a year on this trip, it's like a family reunion for us. Each year Silverthorn has been outstanding in working with us. They book our boats (we are up to at least 3 Presidential's and a patio boat.) each year and work very closely to make our trip the best it can be. We have found the houseboats to be equipped with modern kitchens with range/oven, dishwasher, microwave, trash compactor, two refrigerators, and plenty of cabinet and counter space. Even the dishes, pots, pans, and silverware are included we just bring the food. The very few times we have had a problem Silverthorn has handled it very fast and kept our trip on track so we had best vacation experience possible. The fishing has for 22 years always been good, never in all that time has it been a bad year. The lake, the deer, the Eagles just the very day view never gets old. Add to that the fact Silverthorn staff and their houseboats and you will have a Shasta Lake adventure to remember forever. I have and do refer Silverthorn as the place to go for a good vacation. If I could give ZERO stars, you better believe I would. Let me start by stating that I get that everyone has been impacted by this awful pandemic and the financial losses suffered by people (individuals and businesses) is unprecedented. That being said, we tried to cancel our houseboat reservation, as we are unable to travel due to Covid and hometown restrictions, and this company will not accept our cancellation or refund our money (almost $5100.00). For a reservation that we are unable to make due to restrictions around COVID-19! For services that the have not rendered. It's not like we used something and don't want to pay for it. Shady business to say the least. We have tried to communicate with them but they refuse to return calls, or now even answer emails, in order to try to resolve this matter. SHAME ON YOU SILVERTHORN! The shadiest part of this is that they processed our final payment well into the pandemic, knowing that they don't offer refunds, so they had nothing to lose should the impacts of Covid reach into the summer. Well, here we are, approaching summer and those of us in cities that the have restrictions on travel are unable to go sit our happy asses on a houseboat with 15 other people and sip pina coladas. Come on down, they said, the boats ready and waiting for you. What an unbelievably unprofessional response from a company right now, encouraging us to come party on a houseboat in super tight, close quarters, like some Arkansas pool party. NEWSFLASH - Arkansas traces coronavirus cluster to pool party. NO SHIT! When Covid is finally behind us and businesses get back to "normal", we will remember the businesses that treated people fairly throughout this period. Those will be the businesses that I choose to spend my money. All these other bullshit, greedy operations can suffer the consequences of not understanding the basic principals of good customer service. Boo, Hiss! read more

I recently had the misfortune of renting a boat from Silverthorn Resort, and it was by far the worst rental experience I've ever endured. From start to finish, this company displayed an appalling level of incompetence and unprofessionalism. First, the boat we rented broke down multiple times. Within the first hour, the engine sputtered and died, stranding us in the middle of the lake. After a lengthy wait, we finally managed to get a tow boat to take us to our destination only for it to break down once more just as we were approaching our campsite. This pattern repeated itself on our return trip, turning what should have been a relaxing outing into a stressful ordeal. The service from the majority of the employees was equally disappointing. Not only were they slow to respond when we called for assistance, but their attitudes were dismissive and rude. It was clear they had no interest in providing a satisfactory experience or ensuring our safety on the water. Their lack of concern and professionalism was infuriating. However, I must give credit where it's due. Brian, the mechanic and tow boat operator, was the lone bright spot in this otherwise disastrous experience. He arrived promptly after our initial breakdown and worked tirelessly to get our boat operational again. His professionalism, knowledge, and willingness to help were a stark contrast to the rest of the staff. Brian's efforts were the only reason we were able to make it to our campsite at all. In conclusion, I would strongly advise against renting from Silver Thorn Resort. The frequent breakdowns and unprofessional service make it clear that this company is not worth your time or money. If not for Brian, our trip would have been completely ruined. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for a reliable boat rental. read more

I cannot begin to express how utterly disappointed and disgusted I am with Silverthorn Houseboating Resort. They completely misled us by promising a working houseboat for our weekend getaway, only to give us a dilapidated, unused boat that hadn't seen the light of day in 5 years. We were treated like guinea pigs, forced to endure a weekend of constant generator failures, maintenance issues, and long waits for assistance. To make matters worse, we were charged the same price as those who rented the new, functioning boats that were initially promised to us. It's clear that Silverthorn Houseboating Resort values profit over customer satisfaction. But the cherry on top of this disastrous experience was the dangerous slide on the back of the boat. The broken safety catch on the left side was a serious hazard, and the fact that they failed to disclose this to us is unforgivable. Someone could have been seriously injured because of their negligence. In conclusion, do yourselves a favor and stay far away from Silverthorn Houseboating Resort. They are incompetent, deceitful, and downright dangerous. Save yourself the headache and rent from a reputable company that actually cares about their customers' safety and satisfaction. After frequenting The Silverthorn Resort and renting from 3 - 5 houseboats with our group for 25+ years every Labor Day holiday weekend. The new ownership has decided to ignore our loyal patronage. As we have done for more than 25+ years, we attempted to reserve our boats close to a year in advance only to be told we longer reserve this far in advance. As we continued to check back monthly they told our group that they have no more 3-4 day reservations available for that weekend and we can only reserve for 5 day rentals. Let us not forget that we remained loyal even though several of those years the lake was very low and few other people were interested in going houseboating during those times. We not only rented from Silverthorn yearly, we also rented a couple houseboats from Jones Valley as well. You would think that loyalty accounts for something, but not with these people. We are wondering if there is something that we are missing as is indicated by such disrespect from these organizations. The previous owners treated us like royalty and welcomed us with open arms every year. What happened to appreciation of loyalty from the customers? We are very disappointed in you both!! read more

We had so many obstacles standing in the way of getting on our house boat for my 40th birthday (mainly a large grass fire that closed the road to the marina)!!!! Kathy, the marina rental manager, was in personal contact with me throughout the ordeal making sure that we still came and had the best weekend ever. On Friday the staff was inundated with two days worth of people trying to check in and get on their boat. Emotions were high and people were frustrated but the staff remained polite and courteous the whole time. There were many people with bad and rude attitudes but Kathy and the staff stayed in a good mood and was friendly and cheerful the whole time. She worked her butt off to get us on our boat (which was clean, well maintained, and fabulous) and ensure that we had a great time despite the loss of a day. Kathy and the rest of the staff were awesome and we had the best weekend ever despite the set-backs!!!! read more

We took our annual fishing trip to Silverthorn Resort on Lake Shasta. The five of us rented a houseboat for a week as we have for the past several years. This year however we experienced a couple of electrical problems with the boat. The staff at Silverthorn were quick to respond. David from maintenance was great. He arrived quickly with the necessary items needed to get us back on our way. Tessa at the reservation's office called me the day before our arrival and asked if we wanted the slide moved out of the way which gave us much more room to fish off of the back of the boat. When a problem arose during the trip she kept in touch. Both David and Tessa are great examples of what customer service should be. This is one reason why we keep coming back. read more

Hello, we rented their 20 person Queen boat For 3 nights For the memorial weekend. When we reached there it was raining and the road to ramp was through red mud and the trailers to haul our luggage to the boat was covered in mud and by the time we boarded the boat some mud got on Some decks and stairs. on the last day we did our best to clean The entire boat but there was no hose to clean the mud off the decks or a vacuum to clean the carpet On the stairs. there were just a couple mops and brooms and now they want to charge us $450 dollars for carpet cleaning just one flight of stairs and one deck Which is very unfair and and unreasonable high. read more

This was our first Lake Shasta houseboat vacation, it was so much fun. When we first arrived, there was a fire, so the roads were closed. Luckily we had brought a boat, so we were able to get to the resort by boat. Thanks to the help of Cathy, we were soon on our way. We found our own little cove, and stayed there the whole week. I would highly recommend this to others for vacations. We will definitely do this again. read more

We go to Silverthorn every summer, almost every weekend! It's always fun, friendly and clean. If we have a problem, they are quick to help. Just the friendliest people ever...not like the bigger resorts that have to follow a bunch of corporate rules. (though I don't know if Silverthorn is owned by a corporation :) ) read more

This is Merle Haggard's old place, but it has fallen from glory a bit. The Silverthorn bar is full of rubes & yokels along with the same drunk guy who is always there trying to check ID's even though he doesn't work there. This place could use a serious facelift. read more
