Avoid this 'restaurant' at all costs! A friend and I ate here for a mid-week evening meal, based on the fact that we know the food to be of a high standard.
When we arrived, we were the first customers of the evening and were shown to a lovely table for two. The waiter service was very good, if a little rushed. We ordered delicious starters and eagerly went on to order our main course.
After enjoying our dishes and stopping to take a breather, as you often do in a chinese style restaurant, a waiter asked us 'have you finished?' I had practically finished so said yes, my friend however said no he wasn't quite finished and asked the waiter to come back in a few minutes. By this point however, the waiter was already in the process of clearing our table. My friend then said 'oh, ok I'm ready for dessert anyway!'
To our shock and disbelief, the waiter then proceeded to lecture us about wasting food. Out of the 5 dishes we shared, a main course each and some veg, rice and noodles, there was a small amount of food left on 2 of the plates. We were told very rudely that we should not order so much if we can't eat it all and it will cost extra to compensate for the waste.
My friend then said 'ok, well if you hadn't rushed us to clear the table I would have finished. Please give me my plate back and I'll eat the rest.' The waiter then put my dirty plate down in front of my friend. My friend asked for his own plate, the waiter huffed and puffed and put down my friends' plate complete with all the dirty cutlery. He took away all the cutlery apart from two knives. My friend asked for a clean plate and with a great sigh the waiter went to get one.
We were so gobsmacked that whilst he was gone, my friend decided it was time to pay up and leave. On the waiters return, he again started to lecture us about wasting food. My friend then asked to speak to the manager only to be rudely told that he was in fact the manager. My friend said he was shocked with the service we'd received and that he wouldn't be coming back. The waiter kept repeating 'I don't care, I don't care.'
With that, we walked to the till to pay and leave. We asked the waiter on the till for the original waiter's name so we could complain to management. The second waiter would not provide his name and was also incredibly rude. He snatched the money from my friend's hand and took a long time to give us our change. Other customers were staring by this point, neither of us have ever felt so embarrassed in a public place. My friend started to tell a nearby couple to eat up quickly and not leave any food unless they wanted a lecture and to pay extra. The second waiter then began shouting that we have no right to talk to other customers and telling us to leave. My friend then calmly stated that if the waiter would hurry up and give us our change we would happily leave.
The meal cost £34 for both of us including a soft drink each. It is not a cheap place to eat considering the disgusting service. The food is good but not the best chinese I've had, my local takeaway is better. We feel that we were treated this way because as the evening went on, the restaurant became busy and the staff were having to tell people to come back as there were no free tables. We felt that the waiters rushed us because we were in quite early and they wanted to give our table to the next customers.
We would have stayed and paid more for dessert, and we would have even paid extra for the 'waste' had we even known it was restaurant policy (it isn't stated on the menus). Neither of us will return to this restaurant and I hope that their business suffers for the shoddy way we were treated. Then maybe they won't have the problem of rushing existing customers out to get new ones in. read more
