Complete mess - avoid this company at all costs" We hired…read moreVargas landscaping (or whatever their name was) in early March to do spring cleanup, mulch the beds, trim the shrubs, and edge the lawn at our house off Highway 99W in Sherwood. They quoted us $1,850 and promised it would look "professional and clean" within two days. What a joke. They showed up late both days, left huge piles of old leaves and branches scattered across the yard for us to deal with, and barely touched half the shrubs. The mulch they dumped is uneven, full of sticks and weeds, and they spread it way too thin in some spots and piled it up against the house in others--like they were trying to hide the fact they didn't weed first. Now my foundation is probably going to rot. The lawn edging looks like it was done with a drunk weed eater. Crooked lines everywhere, and they scalped the grass in several patches so bad it's brown already. One of my rhododendrons got completely hacked up--branches just snapped off and left lying there. When I called to complain, the owner got defensive and basically said "that's how it's supposed to look" and "you should have been more specific." We paid half upfront like they asked, and now they're dragging their feet on coming back to fix anything. I had to spend another $300 just to have a different crew come clean up their mess so our yard doesn't look abandoned. Save yourself the headache and money. There are plenty of honest landscapers in Sherwood and Tigard who actually know what they're doing. This company ruined our spring curb appeal and wasted two weekends of my time. Never again.

Desire to ask for accounting of debits/credits and have it refused? Oh, and the exciting months where you like NOT receiving invoices of work done but expect to send payment? Like being told a reduction in the weekly visits (we requested once a month) is due as our yard was small & never receiving it in subsequent visits. Well, this is the lawn care service for you. We were told we had a credit and needed no work done but the next visit, lo and behold, we had a balance due. Such excitement! The never knowing what to pay and why! That is all here for you. It was so boring for us to ask over and over for a detailed accounting & receive nothing like an annoying printout of all debits/credits. After leaving vm asking for an invoice stating what we were paying and having it refused, we sent it just to be done with it. BEWARE!

He would promise to be there to take care of things and never show up or return calls. We cannot recommend Tom's Lawn Care.

This appears to be a small operation, a husband and wife team. He makes the business arraignments and they both perform the work. The owner/operator is a lovely man who is soft spoken. But he is a master of the weed-eater. They make short work for my 1/4 acre. And it's good work too. I started small, had them do just a portion of my yard. I didn't know if I could afford to have the whole thing done, but their rates are very fair. Recently, I had them rehab my entire yard. This was mowing, including a steep hill, weeding the flower beds and cleaning up all the debris from the trees getting ready to hibernate from the heat and lack of water. It took them a bit, 2 1/2 hours, but man that was a lot of work, done well. It would have taken me a week. If you are in the Salem Oregon area and are looking for a regular care team, or just need to catch up, call these folks up. They will definitely be worth the call.
