Free showers, clean running water and a camp host on site to help with any questions. I would warn you this is bear country they are down in the lower elevations because of the Long winter, dont leave any food out of your bear box or any at all in your tent. We had two bears visit our camp every nite looking for a easy meal. Bring a few pots and a wooden spoon to make noise with this seems to help drive tome off for a note. Also bear spray would also help. The lake is OK for fishing, no swimming the lake has leeches so stay out of the water. I would suggest anglers have a float tube to fish this lake with success. In the middle of the lake is the best, work close to the weed line and you should land a few nice fish. The area has few stores to stock up, there wood fords near the junction of 88 & 89, the Sierra Pines store a few miles past the 88 & 89 junction, a gas station in markleeville about 7 miles in from the 88 & 89 junction. Please remember to not leave your trash pick up what you brought in! I say check it out!

UPDATE 9/14: Unfortunately, my husband will never have the opportunity to complete his stay,…read morebecause tonight this campground canceled his upcoming reservation and informed me that neither of us is welcome because I posted this Google review. At approximately 7:43 PM, I received a phone call informing me the reservation was canceled because we had not "followed the rules." When I asked what rule we broke, I was told, to the best of my recollection: "You left a bad Google review. You can't do that. You don't go leaving bad Google reviews and expect to still be able to come here and expect to be welcomed." I was stunned. I again explained that I had never disputed their 21-day special-event policy. As my original review stated, once that policy was explained, I repeatedly acknowledged that my earlier unanswered request to adjust our arrival date would not have mattered anyway. I wasn't requesting an exception or refund. My review was about the unnecessarily defensive and unprofessional communication I received from the office. I explained this again during tonight's call. It did not matter. I was told our reservation was canceled and neither my husband nor I were welcome. I even explained that we are both disabled veterans and this trip had been planned around an event my husband is attending in the area. I was again directed back to the cancellation policy--which, again, was never what I was disputing. To be crystal clear: I was told the reservation was being canceled because I left a negative Google review. I did not record the call, so I am documenting the conversation while it is fresh in my memory. I have retained the texts, reservation documentation, cancellation information, original review, and call log, and I will be escalating this to KOA corporate. What began as a review about poor customer service has now become something considerably more concerning. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This review originally pertained only to my interaction with the office prior to my husband's stay. After receiving a welcome text stating we could call or text with questions, I texted to put the reservation in my husband's name. That was handled without issue. Three minutes later, I asked whether our check-in could be moved one day later due to being given incorrect dates by a family member. That message received no response. When I followed up later, I was told we were outside the change window for a special event. Because they initially didn't tell me what that window was, I mentioned that I had sent the request the previous week and received no response, in case the policy was seven days. I was then told I had "called," my issue had been resolved, and no date-change request had been made. They explained the policy was 21 days. I clarified that I had texted, not called, and that the second text had gone unanswered. I also said I understood that because the policy was 21 days, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I thanked them. Instead of ending there, they requested proof that I had sent the text and continued reiterating the policy I had already acknowledged. I provided the screenshot. The defensive responses continued. That was the entire point of my original review: I wasn't disputing their policy. I was commenting on how an incredibly simple customer-service interaction was handled. Ironically, the response to that criticism was apparently to cancel our reservation and tell us we are no longer welcome.

Aww this place says it's closed but they reopen this year. They've been closed for 4 years…read more Apparently they've been cleaning it up. We tent camp this past weekend July 22-23. The cool thing is we were able to get a last minute reservation as we booked it two days prior. But it's very expensive for a tent site. $140. Yikes. We never pay that much but when you're looking for something on a weekend quickly this worked. This was probably one of the more expensive KOA campgrounds. And the tent sites are right near the river. So you really couldn't hear the road all you can hear was the river. Most of them are kind of small although 161 and 162 are decent size and river access. Ours was 160 but it worked for 2 people 1 car. Definitely couldn't get anymore on our site. They definitely have lots of RV spots but check for what size will fit before booking. The roads around the campground are pretty narrow. There's absolutely no fires right now. El Dorado county has put a strict ban on them since we had Caldor fire that ripped through here 2 years ago. Propane only no charcoal either. This campground was saved. Although they're fixing things up around there. The bathroom next to the office was pretty clean and free hot showers. I think they need to bring in an extra garbage can and recycle bin. It literally was overflowing Sunday morning. Also they need to bring bear bins for each campsite as this is beer country! Now that it's open, they will be back on the hunt. Apparently the lady that checked us in, said they had a couple cubs there just the other night. Also at check in, she said they're going to be bringing in airstreams next season to rent as well. Oh, the swimming pool is in construction so not available right now. This is a really good location too for hiking, biking, boating, rock climbing. If they're open in the winter which I'm not sure, they'll be snowshoeing at the state park across the way from there. Enjoy!

We drove around 2 hours to get here specifically for that reason. It was our first time there, and we were following the map the young woman in the office had given us. As we were driving through, a silver truck aggressively started following closely behind. We pulled over to let them pass, and the truck pulled up, stopped abruptly and blocked us. The woman in the passenger seat asked what we were doing in a not so friendly manner. We explained that we were looking for campsites and lifted up the map to show her that we were given at the office. Instead of offering assistance, she was extremely rude and told us we needed to follow the road. When we explained that we were following the map, she responded, "No, you weren't. You wouldn't have gone that way." We understand that we may have misunderstood the directions, especially being first-time visitors, but there was no reason to treat us that way. A simple, "You're going the wrong way, let me show you where to go," would have been completely different. Unfortunately, the interaction left such a bad impression that we decided to leave. If this is an example of how KOA treats its customers, we will not be staying at a KOA. Customer service matters, especially when you're trying to decide whether to spend your money at a campground.
