Reluctantly, one star.... A model of inefficiency if ever there was one! We rented our Oaxaca apartment through Sil Mexico... Yikes! Each month, paying our (expensive) rent came with new problems! On the average it took us three to four trips into the office..... The mgr. was rarely there when he said, the small atm card reader was broken, and would "take weeks" to fix. The bank couldn't accept our check from a very reputable financial firm, etc...etc... Get the picture?? RUN away from Sil Mexico as fast as possible! The latest wrinkle: our friends were tenants through Sil Mexico for many years......they had to keep first, last and a month guarantee. Real estate agents and agencies are unlicensed in Mexico and boy, did I learn that the hard way. The American consulate in Oaxaca, Mexico, stated that Silmexico was operating a scam against foreigners in the country and should be avoided at all costs. In my case, they didn't return my original documents and I had to have them replaced at great cost and inconvenience. They were holding the documents hostage to payment of bogus fees amounting to, in the words of the consulate, a scam or extortion. Only later did I learn that Dolores Perez and her company Silmexico have a reputation for dirty deals. It was only fortunate that I never signed a purchase and sale agreement for my property. read more
