This is a restaurant that has been in business for over 125 years. It is a great place to get real traditional Turkish cuisine and is a place Turkish families often host celebrations. The service was surprisingly quick, and all of the dishes we tried were incredible. My favorite is called Perde Pilavi (translates to curtain pilaf) which is a flaky pastry crust filled with aromatic rice, dried fruits, pine nuts and shredded chicken). For 31 TL before tip (two entrees, two noon-alcoholic drinks, two teas) a very good value! We got a table outside around 6:30 pm on a Saturday, no problem. They were plenty full on the first two floors, but I saw there were floors above that were empty (the women's restroom was on the 3rd floor). The service was good, though our server had more limited English than other places I've been. They had Wi-Fi too. The food was good, not perfect (see my photos for details). Come here if you're in the area (it's about a 30-minute walk from the Grand Bazaar), but maybe don't go completely out of your way. read more

I came here after reading some raving reviews from some food bloggers. Apparently the place is one of the oldest Buryan Kebab restaurants in the city and seemed to be frequented by locals, not to mention it was in an area full of butchers, all of which encouraged me to visit this place. I ordered 1 Buryan in bones and 1 boneless. Not mindblowing eitherway, but the boneless one had a better, "smokier" taste, so if you go just order the boneless one. Mumbar intestine taste was a bit intense and "off", maybe due to it being served boiled instead of fried as we do in Egypt, the rice stuffing was a bit bland too. This is the kind of place to go when you want a pile of perfectly roasted meat. Lamb shank roasted until falling off the bone tender was then crisped up to make the fat and skin crackle! A nice sprinkle of salt, and the pile was brought to our table to enjoy! We had a nice side of a simple finely chopped tomato/pepper/onion salad, a babaganoush, and yogurt. We ate until there was no more room. Though there was no more meat on the plate either lol. Finished up with a bracingly bitter cai. Service was pleasant, efficient, and quick. Buryan is ok but service is terrible... We had buryan kebab, ayran and salad. They were good. Not very good but good. But 3 waiters (not to mention they were all male) standed around us dealing with all kind of unnecessary stuff, like pushing a panel, carrying something or just standing. They were 3 and it was not a busy hour but I do not know how but they forgot my salad. Another thing. This is very typical for the traditional restaurants in Turkey that waiters (not to mention again that they are all male) consider theirselves as the chief of Berlin Flarmony Orchestra and act like they do not have to serve your order but they serve it to make you a favor... Food 1/5 : We ordered iskender kebab, mixed grill plate, 2 buryan(1 bone in 1 boneless), a salad, 2 ayran, 2 coke zero, 2 lentil soup, and 1 cig kofte. The salad was flavorless. We even added extra pomegranate molasses (which doesn't seem to have much flavor here.) The salad is basically chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, chili, and parsley on top. No flavor of olive oil or salt. The cig kofte isn't something I'm used to. I'm used to eating raw kibbe (a lebanese dish) so the flavor isn't what I'm used to, but it was good. The lentil soup tasted good, but it was spicy so beware. The iskender kebab was offputting in looks and flavor. It was basically flat meat sitting on top of bread smothered in tomato sauce (which tasted canned) and a side of yogurt. No spices at all. The mixed grill was probably the most decent out of all the dishes, with the best part being the chicken wings. They tasted like they were cooked on coals or wood fire; very good. The buryan...oh man it was soooooo disappointing. I had extremely high expectations because of all the hype I'd heard about the place. I imagined the meat to be full of fantastic flavors after being cooked underground for so long but unfortunately, although it was tender, it didn't taste like anything but lamb. Absolutely no flavor of salt or any other spice. The bone in portion barely had any meat with the majority of the piece being bone and the boneless portion had so much fat. Service 1/5: it seems that as a rule, service here is terrible. The waiters hover over you as soon as you're seated until they take your orders and then they disappear until your food is ready. They serve you and again disappear until you flag them down for the check. This place wasn't very different. The waiter literally was on top of our heads while we discussed which dishes to order. Every time we'd mention the name of a dish he'd take it as a que to explain what that dish was...very annoying. Price: I didn't think it was too pricey. Our bill came out to be 116 TL for everything we ordered which comes out to $38.67. read more
