Poor customer communication, I only need frame replacement for broken glasses.They say on no you need an exam !!!!! then telling me I'd have to pay when my ins covers frames !!!!.I was told they were going to call me back, that was yesterday at 10 am, no call, I went this morning Optical doesn't open until 8:30. The website says 7:30, I called at 9 am no answer I left a message 3:21 now no call. The doctors are very good dut don't get your glassea here. When it was Fichman they made me a pair of perfect glasses. When I tried to get another pair they gave me a substandard pair. I returned them and have been waiting on a refund for over three months. They are giving me the runaround. read more

I had cataract surgery back in 2021 and I had a few complications. I needed an extra suture for a bleed, I passed out in recovery, and had a good amount of pain after. This time around I've had zero pain. I'm vision is back and so much better than before. Dr. Feng was wonderful and communicated everything that was going to happen. I will tell any friends and family if they need anything cataract related to go see her. read more

Compassionate, technically masterful, great at diagnosing and explaining the surgical procedure, Dr Feng is great. It's pretty daunting to find such a talented surgeon to operate on your eyes. I had an ok experience here, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. The space itself is very jam packed. You kind of feel like you're in a factory of people getting their eyes checked, glasses, etc. For $90, I got my eyes checked. I didn't feel totally confident with the woman doing the test. I should have been more vocal, but the whole process felt rushed. I only had a quick meeting with a doctor here. (Not Dr. Fichman.) He didn't rush me but seemed tired. If you really had no other options, this spot would be ok. But I wouldn't necessarily give it credit for not being a chain. read more

I would leave a zero star review if possible. In 2022 I went for my annual eye exam. I was told that they had cancelled my exam. No one ever contacted me. I had to reschedule it. This year, when I didn't receive a call to confirm my appointment for my annual exam, I called them only to be told that there wouldn't be a doctor there to see me and I would have to reschedule yet again. If I could give zero stars I would. Apparently they have been taken over by SightMD but it doesn't matter. this was simply the worst experience I've ever had in a medical office. I have VSP insurance and was told I would have a $10 co-pay for an eye exam. I made my appointment and it was a long wait. The receptionist couldn't verify my coverage. I had to look it up for them. The exam rooms looked like converted closets and it was obvious that they overbook. When finished with my exam I was told I only needed to pay $10 so I did and left with my eyeglass prescription and was never told I had to go over to the optical desk and pay another $50 for my contact lens prescription. A few days later I noticed they tried to bill my Blue Cross health insurance $550 for the exam that was covered with my VSP.com plan. Luckily it was denied and I contacted them asking why they double billed me and they claimed it was a "mistake". Fast forward 7 days later when my online contact lens provider through my VSP.com plan said they wouldn't fill my prescription unless I went back and paid the $50 for the contacts exam I was never told I had to pay when I visited. I mean seriously, why would I just pay my full bill and co-pays at the receptionist desk at the same time? Why would I have to go over to the optical department and have to run my card again for services rendered at the same visit? It's not only inefficient but a complete waste of my time. To date I have at least spent two hours chasing down my prescription and frivolous insurance claims. I had to go back again for my contact prescription because they refused to email it. Just do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I am never setting foot in there again. read more

Avoid this place. While my insurance covers glasses and contact exams, they still charged me an additional $50 out of pocket for "contact fitting". I have been wearing the same kind of contacts for over a decade. When I specifically asked for my prescriptions before leaving, they then refused to give them to me because I needed to "try out the contacts for a few days". Of course, they would not send me the prescription via email or even fax, so they required that I come back in "to sign for it". I came back and they couldn't give me the prescription still because someone wasn't in the office! So I had to return a third time to finally receive the prescriptions. They were rude and never apologetic through the entire ordeal. I will never be returning to this company and encourage everyone to look elsewhere for your eye-care needs. read more

I came to Fichman after my previous ophthalmologist closed his Hartford office. I was told that, except for surgery, all services were available at all four of their offices. This proved not to be true. I was being seen at the Hartford office that was not equipped to do some of the exams that I needed. I was also unhappy with my doctor, Randy Bouligny. Twice, he was unable to keep my appointments and had the nerve to chastise me when I had to reschedule one. Also, I made a request concerning the distance setting on my reading glasses. He ignored my request and it resulted in my glasses having to be remade. After two visits, I moved my care to another practice. They do far more through work and came up with a different diagnosis concerning eye condition. In short, there are definitely better eye care practices in the Hartford area. **** Just as a follow-up note, I received a phone call from Dr. Fichman in regards to the review above. He was quite apologetic for all that happened which is a positive sign. Just the same, I will stay with my decision to move my care elsewhere. read more

Love this Dr. and All of his staff. A couple of months ago I had "Lens Replacement". Excellent care before, during, and after Surgery. Dr. Fichman, truly CARES about his patients as if he is taking care of his own family member. He ask YOU questions and how best to make your visit/ surgery pleasant for you. Totally amazing. (I just had major surgery for an Emergency health problem, and I wish Dr. Fichman had been the Surgeon), I am doing cartwheels today because, Last night was the first time I have driven at night since the Len replacement. The BEST eye doctors office I've been to so far! I just moved to the area and was looking for an eye doctor. This place is about 5mins from my job at St. Francis Hospital, so I decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did! First off there is plenty of parking in the front and back of the building. The office is brand new, clean, and beautifully decorated in warm earth tones. The girls at the front desk wear these cute little pink cardigan sets with the name of the office and their names on them. This is something I've never seen before and thought it was so very stylish! After making my first appointment I was given the option of text message appointment confirmations, which I found to be great! All of the employees were extra warm and welcoming. I didn't have to wait long for the optometry tech to come get me. I've been wearing glasses for the past 10 years and contacts for 5, but never have I had as many eye tests done as I did here! I could tell that they are not just your average "glasses pit stop". They really care about the health of your eyes and supporting structures, which I found refreshing! The eye doctor took his time explaining the results of all of the tests and helping me to decide on the right kind of contacts to use. The women in the glasses center were GREAT with helping me pick out the right prescription sunglasses and helping me maximize my insurance benefits. I am so glad I found this jewel of a place in the middle of Hartford and I intend to come back every year! read more

Switched vision insurance and Fichman was one of the only doctors nearby that took the insurance. I called the New Britain office to make an appt for an exam and contacts fitting. I was given an appointment for the following Wednesday morning. I arrive to the New Britain office on Wednesday at my scheduled time only to find the door is locked and a note on the door saying they are closed Wednesday. Weird, so I call them. They answer and I tell them about my appt and the door being locked. They ask me which office I am at and I tell them. They then proceed to confirm that the New Britain office is closed and they made my appt for the Manchester office! Never ever once while making my appt was the Manchester office even mentioned. Completely ridiculous and unprofessional. I told them to cancel my appointment and hung up. I would rather pay out of pocket then deal with a company like this. read more

Let me start by comparing this experience with one I had 2 years ago at the O.D. at a lenscrafters in the Buckland hills mall.....you know...a cookie cutter eye place: Fichman - a tech takes me in and does the actual exam Lenscrafters - O.D. saw me every step of the way Fichman -Dr. Only took over after eyes were dilated and literally spent 6 minutes with me. Fichman - I asked to get prescriptions for contacts and glasses - Dr referred me downstairs to eye center... then I go there and they looked at me like I had 6 heads... then says they are not open yet...then I hear same employee tell another customer that the optician is not there on time so it's not open..Then I get seen and they said I have to now make a separate appointment for contacts. ... Lenscrafters - No issue...both scripts done at same time..in and out... I did get a lengthy explanation from the optical girl on why and she herself was very polite and Probably deserves some customer service credit and probably should be better compensated for a different employer that knows what their doing. Overall this location was a literal definition of the word hassle. read more

It was my first appointment here as my insurance changed and my stepmother said good things about them with lasik eye surgery. I went in a week prior to sign a release of information for them to get my previous optometrist information as well as insurance cards and filling out some fairly hefty paperwork. I get there and there is one attendant at the desk and she is on the phone. I wait. Doctor comes out and puts a clipboard in front of her so I let the people who are attached to the clipboard go ahead of me. They then tell me I am in the wrong place. I have to go upstairs. My bad. I arrive in a crowded and stuffy waiting room with one chair available. It's 130 which is my appointment time so I wait. 145. Someone goes to complain saying they had a 115 and weren't taken in. The women behind the desk did their best to assuage his concerns. Long story short I had a 130 appointment and I waited until after 2pm and still wasn't seen so I walked out. I asked if this was the norm and they said it was. They are concerned about making money, not client care. The doctors may be great, I don't know because I never met one, but if they aren't going to value my time why should I value theirs? read more

I recently had to make a visit to Fitchman Eye center do to my 17 month old child head-butting me in the eye. I haven't been to an eye doctor in a while because mine retired and I didn't like the replacement doctor. I chose Fitchman because I went here for my Lasik surgeryand they also are a regular optometrist office. Everyone was really nice unfortunately I'll take six months for my eye to become adjusted to having a humongous floater inside it's nothing surgery can fix.... So I'll be coming here for visits every 4 months just to make sure nothing has gotten worse. if you're looking to have Lasik this would be the place to go we have one pair of eyes and you want your surgery done by someone who knows what they're doing and dr. Fichman has been doing Lasik for years and actually teaches classes to other doctors so they can do Lasik surgery also. Office is very clean with private parking easy to get to. read more

I was one of the first people to get lasic surgery. I had mine done while others watched in the waiting room. It was painless and pretty quick. (about 10 minutes) The next day, you wake up and can see perfectly! Best experience in any doctors office in my life. Hubby's eye sight has rapidly become progressively worse over the last few years. A couple years ago he was told he was developing cataracts in both his eyes, and finally at his last exam he was referred for surgery. Enter Fichman Eye Center. The center is clean and comfortable and runs like a fine tuned machine. The staff are both friendly and professional, well practiced at their craft. Surgeries begin early - both our appointments were at 6:15 am. Cataract surgery is fast, too; the entire process lasted only 90 minutes, from check in to walking out the door. The surgery itself takes less than 20 minutes. The nursing staff takes great care in making patients comfortable and informed, too. We got several calls from the nursing staff to check that hubby was doing ok. The results were instantaneous. Hubby's vision improved the same day. He had nothing but positive consequences as a result of the surgery. He was almost giddy to return for the surgery on his other eye. If you or a loved one are in need of cataract surgery I highly recommend coming to Fichman Eye Center! read more

I am as usual, impressed and completely satisfied with my exam at Fitchman Eye Center in Manchester. I have worn corrective lenses for over 55 years and I feel that my opinion can be trusted when I say there is no way that I would trust my eyes to any other facility. First, the appointments are scheduled for your convenience if possible. They go out of their way to accommodate the patient and their family. The staff handles themselves in a professional yet friendly manner and help in any way they can. Today I saw Melanie, who listened carefully to my concerns and answered all my questions. She double checked one of my concerns regarding dilation of my eyes and found the answer so thank you for that. I also saw Dr Reasoner for the first time and am quite impressed at the way he explains the reasoning for the type of exam I had. That's something I would feel intimidated at my previous facility for asking. My husband has had surgery with Dr Fitchman in the past and again, we were just amazed at the confidence he gives his patients regarding the procedures. So thank you all for your kindness, it has not gone unseen. Now, for the eyeglass station. THANK YOU for you help. You took the time and that what matters. For me, eyeglasses are a necessity, I cannot wear contacts and am not a candidate for corrective surgery so taking that extra 5 minutes makes me feel like I matter. You can't even get your prescription from the Dr.'s any longer. Now they force you to go to the optical center to get it for the sales pitch on new glasses. I have been a patient at the Fichman Eye Center in Manchester for over 30 years. I have tremendous confidence in Dr. Richard Fichman when it comes to Lasik and Cataract removal surgery. I would not trust my eyes to anyone else. As a matter of fact, many times before my surgery a few days ago, as I was filling out forms and talking with staff, I said, " Dr. Fichman is doing this, right?" I am aware of the problem that others have mentioned concerning a very busy waiting room with long wait times. A few days ago when I had cataract surgery with an implant done , I also had to wait but I was very aware of the fact that Dr Fichman was addressing a few unexpected situations in between surgery appointments which ultimately put him behind schedule. My thought was that I appreciated the fact that he was addressing the immediate needs of his patients ; it reassured me that if I ever needed that attention, that I also would get it. At my "day after surgery" appointment I told my attending ophthalmologist how disheartening it had been the day before to hear so many people complaining about the "wait time" when I knew they were waiting for a skilled, talented , experienced doctor.; someone they could totally trust with their eyes. She told me that the office staff , the other ophthalmologists and Dr Fichman were very aware of the situation and that they were activily and diligently working on plans to prevent it from happening in the future. I certainly hope this is true. It would be a shame to have patients avoid the quality eye care offered at the Fichman Eye Center simply because they have heard about "the long wait"time; a situation that can easily be corrected. The experience was horrible. We had a 9:15 appointment. After we had been sitting there for over an hour we asked why they were running so late and were told there was no doctor there and they were trying to get one to come in. We were not seen until around 12:00. This was for a routine eye exam. When we were finally seen, the doctor was so rude we were appalled. When we asked questions, he talked down to us and acted like we were just plain stupid for asking the questions. Nothing was done any different than any routine exam I have ever had, but since he noticed cataracts I was charged for a diagnostic exam, as well as the routine exam, to the tune of about $260 above the cost of the routine eye exam. The words "You have cataracts" will cost you about $90 per word, not because the doctor will do anything different from any other routine eye exam you have had, but just because he told you about it. When I asked, what caused cataracts his answer was "Life. If you die without having cataracts you died to soon." Because I told them I was taking metformin for pre-diabetes my records now state I have Type 2 diabetes, which I do not. And by the way that is an extra diagnostic charge as well. It was a lost cause talking to the company. You take medication then you are diabetic. When I told the doctor I was pre-diabetic, he told me that was like being "pre-pregnant". You either are or you are not. So, if you are pre-diabetic save yourself some aggravation and don't tell them. It took two weeks to get in my eye glass order and it was completely incorrect. Though I told them I could not see a thing they tried to convince me that is was because the prescription had changed and had gotten stronger. If so, shouldn't I have been able to see something? Nota thing. Blurred to the point they were useless. I had to show them my old glasses with a good prescription and they were stunned at how different they were. The new ones were not even close to the strength of the old ones. So, still waiting on glasses. My husband's glasses were no better. When he told them that one of the bows was loose he was told it needed some flexibility due to the type of hinge. Same hinge on both sides, only one side is loose. Does that make sense? NOT! They also fouled up the charges to our insurance companies. So watch out for that if you make the mistake of using this company for your eye exams. Watch your bills and notify your insurance company if they charge you incorrectly or if they treat you badly. read more

Do not come here if you like to be seen on a timely manner. I've been here several times now due to it being right on the way to work. First few visits l, they saw me 30 mins after scheduled appointment time, which isn't as bad. My second to last appointment I wasn't seen for 45 mins, and for my last appointment earlier today, I wasn't seen for over and hour!!! I had 930 appointment and was not seen by anyone until 1040. Unacceptable. There should not be this much of a delay so early in the morning just for a contact fitting. And the doctor barely did anything or heard my concerns and only saw me for 10 mins. I will have to say that the office itself has a nice environment. The front desk staff are very friendly as well as the assistants. They offer an area to buy your glasses right on the premises, yet I haven't looked into it to know the price ranges compared to Lens Crafters which I've always found reasonable. The one thing I was not impressed with was one particular doctor. I've only been twice. My first experience was fine. This time I was disappointed in the interaction we had during the visit. He was very matter of fact and didn't seem to go out of his way to be friendly. He did a gluacoma test in a way that I've never had done before. He did not tell me what he was going to do and as I'm "looking at the blue light" coming closer and closer to my eye, the probe touched my eyeball and I flinched. He didn't tell me he was going to touch my eye. I wasn't able to sit there still knowing this probe was about to touch my eye but we tried it again. When I flinched naturally the second time, he seemed aggravated and just pushed the equipment away from me and said nothing. I have had the opportunity to visit this facility twice. The first time was for a general eye exam....the wait wasn't bad...and they have aTV in the waiting area...so the wait wasn't anything to complain about...the rooms are very small...felt a bit claustrophobic with 2 people and lots of equipment jammed in there. The staff is polite but not very friendly so the experience was not bad...but I wouldn't rave about it. Had to make a second trip to have a glaucoma test and was told I would be having my eyes dilated and would need a ride home...so my friend took 1/2 day off to bring me. We got there at on time for my 2pm appt...and I noticed a sign that stated if you were 15 mins. late you would forfeit your appointment and make a new one. Sounds fair to me....'if you snooze...you loose..and it sounded like a good way to keep them from running behind schedule....WRONG....at 2;30 I asked a tech when she thought I would be seen....she left to check and never came back...at 3pm I tried again...this time going to the front desk to inquire...They could tell l was upset so someone ushered me into on of the tiny rooms and had me wait....for another 15 mins. She finally comes in and examines my eyes....then she takes me to yet another mini room barely large enough for 2 people..a desk and a computer. While she is finishing up the exam....a tech walks in and says she needs the computer to check something for her patient....I JUST ABOUT LOST IT....I told her I had already been there for over 2 hrs at this point and would not patiently wait while she bogarded the computer. She finally left but not before muttering " Well my patient has been here for a long time too.....WHY? You give up your spot if you are 15 minutes late....so HOW do yu get 2 hrs backlogged with patients?? I'm pretty sure these eye doctors are not stuck in surgery...So how does this place get so backed up?? When the tech finally finished I asked her when they were going to dialate my eyes....she leaves again and finally comes back and tells me they will NOT need it...but I do end up waiting another 20 minutes for a real doctor to come in and read my results. . At this point...I was livid...my friend had to have a neighbor pick up her children from school. and took 1/2 day unpaid from work..and I missed a very important appointment I had scheduled for 4pm. ..not realizing a glaucoma screening would take longer than giving BIRTH. I think...if the patients have to be held accountable for being 15 minutes late....these Dr's should be mindful of OUR time as well. They scheduled my next appointment for 6 months....NOT...well not THERE anyway. read more

Was a patient at the Manchester office for several years with no complaints. Switched to the New Britain office and had a minor complaint in 2017, not worth mentioning. But that same year I noticed I was being billed more than I should have been, at least according to my Medicare statement. My calls to the Billing Dept. were ignored, even when I sent copies of the Medicare statement (Jan. 2018). The amount was small, so I paid it just so they would stop sending me past due notices. Frustrated, I sent a letter to Dr. Fichman explaining why I way switching to another eye doctor. That, too, was ignored. In January 2019, I received a refund check for "overpayment". I wonder if more people caught on to the "overpayments" and complained, or whether they were being audited. read more
