Before getting our dog 6 years ago we made a trip to Southern Illinois to this puppy mill. I wish they were closed down. I guess in Illinois as long as a dog has food and water it can be raised in a neglectful environment.

I purchased my puppy from them 2 years ago and I would go back to them in a heart beat. They're very well educated on what they do and take a lot of time to care for these puppies and answer any questions their customers may have. When I told them I was interested in a puppy they gave me loads of information and left my decision up to me. They were always quick to respond and let us come and visit the puppies any time they were open. I would recommend them to anyone. Every time I went to visit they were cleaning the puppy area and everything was kept very nice. I never had to worry about my pup. The mannerisms of my pup is also incredible. He is so well behaved and was incredibly easy to train. He will let any puppy/child jump all over him and he never bats an eye. 10/10 for them.

My Ari is theeee best Lab ever! She came home from Sievers 2 Christmases ago and she hands down has the best temperament, personality and just all over amazing pet! I cant wait and would not hesitate to get our next dog from Roger! They were amazing and very loving towards the dogs. Cant say enough of our experience.

This is a puppy mill with dozens of dogs who have died from preventable genetic cancers. The number of heartworm positive dogs they've discarded to rescues is unbelievable. These dogs are not loved. read more
I went here on Good Friday, my first ever visit. I went to check out some retired breeders. I worked with the owner, Roger. I have to say, from the beginning to the end, Roger was nothing but amazing!!!!! He was soo nice and helpful. He and Dylan went above and beyond while I was there. Everyone was extremely nice. It was an 1.5 drive there and Roger, provided excellent directions throughout. We took another route home which was only 45 minutes thru north county. Yes, they are breeders. There are babies who I assume live in the house whom walk around loose, a good 10+, whom are extremely nice and loving. I purchased a 5.5 year old golden retriever from here and I would gladly rescue another older golden from here again. The majority of the fur babies reside outside and are not house-broken or trained. They are outside babies and will need patience and love. She was not up to date on shots. They use old school methods regarding flea/tick control. They keep the nails trimmed. I asked if they would wash her before we left and he gladly obliged. My baby has quickly learned to live inside, she is still learning of course. She has the sweetest temperament. Roger, assisted me, but ultimately she chose me and I chose her. She is absolutely beautiful!!!! read more

They have beautiful dogs but EVERY dog I and my family members have had have died young from hermangiosarcoma. Very aggressive cancer of the blood vessels. I'm currently sitting next to the best dog I've ever had and have to put her down tomorrow. She's only 7. SEVEN. read more

We had gotten pups from them before and had no issues, but our 6 year old Golden started with serious health issues within the first 6 months. We just endured another surgery on her this month. All due to bad breeding! Please do not support them now. We love her dearly, but it has been extremely expensive and heartbreaking! read more

Very nice people ti deal with bought 6 month old . Charlie is doing great in forever home. They are breeders and care about their dogs. Their guarantee and faith in their dogs quality is fantastic. Thank you Marie and Bob read more
Please do not buy dogs from this breeder. This is a puppy mill. The poor dogs are caged all day and don't get any socialization. We got an older puppy from them who had serious behavior issues due to not being socialized properly. The breeder gave us two medications to give to the puppy and wouldn't even explain what they were for but kept insisting that we had to give those to the dog. The owner just uses these poor dogs to fund his crazy invention schemes and does not care about their well-being. Please do your research and stay away! read more

Arg, you get what you pay for I guess. Sievers was very responsive, or so it appeared, until I realized that most "answers" to questions were stock emails. The litters are available practically every two weeks, there is no way that their "small family" is socializing dogs at that rate as they claim. Just do a little research before you give in to their lower prices, know the lower prices are tempting, but you don't get the OFA and CERF and temprament tests of reputable breeders. I know everyone can't, or doesn't prefer, rescue. But, please do your homework before using a puppy mill. read more

I have two 10 year old labs, brothers from the same liter My black Lab diagnosed with cancer is going to be a huge loss for his brother and in my heart. They have separation anxiety n don't do well apart. I know and want to introduce a third puppy ASAP. I went to Sievers so sad I could barely see straight to look at their puppies. I was met with the kindest most understanding dog lovers I've ever met. read more

Please do not support this puppy mill. The owners have zero compassion for dogs and they are caged the majority of their days and the female dogs are overbred until they have nothing left to give. My parents got our dog from here a few years ago without knowing any better. The poor baby had so many GI issues and it became very apparent that someone there had treated him badly. He couldn't wear a collar for a long time, he was so scared of things being around his neck. Shame on you, Sievers. You guys are monsters. Hurting innocent dogs might be one of the worst things a person could ever do, and I don't even want to know how many dogs have suffered at your hands over the years.. read more

The dog we got here was wonderful and our best friend, but the way they treat the golden retrievers at this place was horrible. One of the goldens was definitely too young to be having puppies, and by age three our dog had a knee surgery for tearing her ligament, and then at age six she had another knee surgery. At ten our dog had a tumor, and she passed away from cancer. I love golden retrievers, but the over breeding and trying to sell as much as possible is not a place that I would support. read more

I absolutely cannot believe the negative reviews on this place. People are insane. Sievers was SOOOO wonderful. I picked up my labradoodle just shy of a year ago, from them. I had the best experience picking out a puppy! Cindy and roger were great! People that say this is a puppy mill are severely uneducated. You can tell, the owners care so much for what they're doing there. And while some people might not "like" it. Doesn't make the establishment a bad place. The dogs were in good health, the pins were clean, vaccine paperwork and even a health guarantee. I got the best little buddy from sievers! Thank you! read more

I and several members of my family have gotten dogs from Sievers. They have been the best family dogs ever. They have the best temperaments and are very healthy. My Golden is 11 years old and going strong. Sievers is very transparent and will allow you to go anywhere at their kennel. I have been there many times with friends and family. Most places want an appointment and you are not allowed to look around - not them. Yes, they have many dogs, and I would be happy with any of them. I have recommended them to many people and they have all been happy. I hate to think about when my big guy goes. But I will go back to Sievers. read more

I cannot say enough about these wonderful dogs. I have had my own golden from Sievers about 9 years now and he is the bestest boy ever. Sievers are breeders - yes - but they are NOT a puppy mill. They care for their dogs and are very professional. The dogs are bred for temperament and intelligence. All I can say is that there are lots of places that are not good but Sievers is excellent. You cannot go wrong with a dog from Sievers Retrievers. read more

The Labradoodle we got was supposedly trained by their relative for a month at a cost of an additional $1400. The "trained" dog wets and poops indoors, does not respond to simple commands and is overall aggressive. When we brought this to the breeders attention we were dismissed and told the dog had responded well to training. I was amazed at how quickly this smart breed could forget everything it had been trained to do. Supposedly it would ring the bell when she needed to go outside. The dog didn't even recognize the bell. We filed a complaint with the BBB which went nowhere. Sievers response to the BBB was that their experience was people who asked a lot of questions had far more problems with the dogs than others. I'm not sure what that means. I guess it means we should shut up about problems. I would not recommend this breeder or their trainer to anyone. read more

Do not get a dog from here! My family picked up our sweet golden retriever, Bella, and at the age of 6 she was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive tumor on her spine. After spending THOUSANDS of dollars to help her she only lived three more years until we had to put her to sleep because the tumor reappeared in her brain.... I am seeing a lot of reviews about dogs having health issues from this place and my family and I will never go back. The whole experience was so saddening because Bella was the sweetest, and best dog we have ever had. Be careful before purchasing a dog here. read more

I bought my first dog at Sievers and I can't recommend them enough. It is an adventure of a drive to get there from Saint Louis but its well worth it. I often get compliments about my dog for his looks and especially his temperament. We visit medical facilities as a therapy team through Support Dogs, Inc here in STL. Couldn't be happier. Definitely worth the extra cost, especially for first time dog owners. read more

Do not buy any dog from Siever's Retrievers. I own a dog that had ACL surgery at a very young age & also tore her other ACL. She will die this week due to an Osteosarcoma diagnosis(the most painful of cancer diagnoses)after breaking a leg getting UP FROM HER BED ON THE FLOOR. She is from the line, Siever's Shining Son Spencer. All of their male dogs go back to him and many of their females too. Don't buy from them unless you want to rack up over $5,000 in surgeries and countless ongoing allergy expenses. The disposition of their dogs is great but not worth the headache of wasted money and constant care. They will send you home with meds to treat Giardia which people can get from their dog! The meds cause neurological problems in puppies. Everyone that I know who owns a Siever's Retrievers dog has problems. They are smooth Southern IL talkers! RUN FAST!!! read more

I have purchased two dogs from them. My first was a golden retriever and he lived to be 13 years old with no health problems. I purchased a goldendore recently and he is the love of my husband's life. They do every thing together. He is really smart and loves to play. When he first came home we took him to the vet and was given ear medicine for an infection. Sievers reimbursed me the cost of the medicine. The puppy is happy and healthy. I thank them for these wonderful goldens. Renegade Ranger was my 3rd golden. My Sun was stolen and Ziggy came from another breeder. Ziggy was not the brightest but we loved him. Now we have Roscoe and couldn't be happier. read more

I purchased my chocolate labradoodle from Sievers in August of last year and could not be happier. Cindy and Roger went out of their way to answer all my calls and emails. You could tell once you got their the puppies were loved and taken care of. After playing with the puppies and picking out the perfect one he was given a bath while Cindy went over everything we could possibly need to know about the puppy. Prior to leaving we got a shot record, dog food and any information we would need regarding our new addition to our family. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience here. read more

I certainly wish we had done more research before buying from Sievers. But we had just lost our beloved Finnigan after 11 years that week. Although I was only window shopping for later they called back saying someone had bailed on their deposit for last male puppy of liter ready to leave that weekend. I only looked at all the professional athletes on their website. Although I was really taken back by the conditions and how animals were kept we fell in love with Murphy. All was fine for 6 months but he began having skin issues. Our vet tried multiple rounds of antibiotics and steroids but eventually we were referred to the Mizzou dermatologist. The initial test performed was for a disease I was unaware of in Golden breed. Itchthyosis. A scaly skin disease. He came back a carrier luckily and not active for disease. But if breeders are not doing DNA testing for this disease and breed 2 carriers 90% of liter is likely to get disease. I went to Sievers with the test data and articles from the Mizzou vet. The were completely unaware. The person I spoke with said they would discuss with Roger. But I'm confident they still are not doing DNA testing prior to breeding. If you buy a puppy ask for results from this DNA test. Regardless of where you get your Golden or Doodle. The puppy will not show any signs of the disease until at least 6 months. We are trying to work through his skin issues but are thankful he does not actually have the disease but are very concerned about the irresponsible breeding of Sievers. But please regardless of the breeder ask for the DNA test so 6 months after having your puppy he does not develop the Itchthyosis that has no cure. Had to give 1 star to post but Sievers deserves zero or negative stars!!! read more

I bought a gorgeous puppy after I had to put my old lab to sleep. After a year or so, the dog had pituitary problems, severe allergies, and thyroid problems which requires expensive daily medications. A year a go she developed diabetes and needs daily insulin. They advertise that the puppies are AKC registered, which they are NOT. There is also little to no screening of genetic testing, yet they are asking enormous prices of all of their puppies. I love my dog and am very attached to her, but she has been the most expensive dog I have ever bought and maintained. Please research your dog breeder before you buy. read more

Please do not purchase a dog from this breeder. We have a total of four chocolate labs from them between me and my parents. We loved them and they were such sweet dogs. The problem was the the amount of health issues three had. One died young unexpectedly and 7years old. She was in the ICU for four days and they could not believe that a dog her age did not bounce back. One had part of her lung remove, kidney problems/failure, and cancer/chemo. Another had parvo (while she was still at Sievers) and survived, had digestive disorder (threw up a ton of blood and should have died), and now cancer in her liver and bones and has gone through radiation. Hoping the fourth dog does not have the issues the other three had. Our dogs see great vets and are very fortunate that we are able to do whatever was medically necessary to help them. These issues began happening when they were younger dogs. It makes me sick that they continue to breed dogs with numerous health issues. Save yourself the heartache and stay far away. Find a breeder who tracks problems and issues with their dogs. read more

Please don't buy dogs from Sievers Retrievers in Brussels, IL. They are a puppy mill. We purchased a goldendoodle 4 years ago and a golden retriever 3 years ago from them. Our golden retriever has severe arthritis as a result of severe hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. She will be in pain for the rest of her life and we will be spending tons of money on supplements, pain medication, therapy, etc., etc. to relieve her pain. Her life will be shortened because we will eventually have to put her down because of the arthritis pain. It is so heartbreaking. The orthopedic surgeon told us there is nothing to do for her except elbow replacement surgery, which is only being done experimentally in certain areas of the U.S. and is very expensive. The orthopedic surgeon said she has been sending letters to Sievers for over 10 years, telling them they have hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia in their dogs' line, but Sievers refuses to quit breeding dogs that have bad hips and bad elbows. Our dogs' veterinarian said she has known about Sievers since the early 1990s. They have a terrible reputation among veterinarians. Our goldendoodle that we purchased from Sievers has been mostly very healthy, but he is huge (100 pounds and he's lean, not fat at all.) Sievers told us he would weigh 60 pounds, tops. My advice to anyone looking for a golden retriever or labrador retriever is to do a lot of research and find a highly respected breeder who doesn't breed tons of dogs, doesn't breed the mother dogs too frequently, who will show you the "line" (basically, the dogs' family tree) and who will certify the dogs' hips, elbows, heart, and eyes. If they won't do that, then run in the other direction. No matter what, stay away from Sievers Retrievers in Brussels, IL. (I had no choice but to give 1 star in this review but Sievers obviously deserve no stars.) read more

If I could give them ZERO STARS I would. We purchased a chocolate lab from them less than two years ago and she has been chronically sick ever since. We just learned our beloved pooch, who we love with all of our hearts, has Wilson's Disease aka Copper Storage Disease. Not only have we spent over $10,000 this year in search of a diagnosis, she had to endure what the surgeon called a "biopsy bufett" in order for her to be properly diagnosed. Her second birthday is in July, and we are now in the process of a six month chelation process of trying to rid the copper out of her liver before she gets any more inflammation and scarring and goes into full liver failure. A therapy which we don't even know will work or she will be able to tolerate. We have a very short window to save our dog and we have called Sievers several times and left messages and the least they could do for us was return a phone call...we are still waiting. It would be nice to be able to let them know they are breeding dogs with genetic liver diseases so they can stop. I would stay far far away from this breeder!!! read more

the love of our life came from Sievers a chocolate lab. the most beautiful lab I have ever seen but today at 6:30 this morning she had a heart attack and didn't make it she was only 5 yrs and 7 mo. old. we are devastated she was like family and we had a rescue mix breed that just loved her, she is in shock now, I have read some reviews of this breeder and they are mostly bad so as I have no idea it they have a problem I will not recommend them. they claim to be Vets read more

We purchased Winnie in 2011 and she was the offspring of Sugar and Hoss. We had difficulty finding a dog food that would stop some stool issues she was having as a puppy, but once we found a suitable food, she has been nothing short of amazing ever since. We live in the city, so we wanted a smaller lab (Winnie is my 4th black lab). Winnie weighs 52 pounds - exactly what we were looking for! She is a Pet Partners Therapy dog and has an extremely calm disposition while visiting with the mentally and physically disabled. She is the smartest dog I have ever been around and has been very easy to train. She is an extremely active dog and loves to fetch, catch Frisbees, and dive off of 5-8 foot high piers on the lake front - she loves the water. I would have absolutely no reservations buying another dog from Sievers Retrievers, although I find it hard to imagine ever getting a better, smarter dog than the one we have now. We constantly get complements on her classic lab face, sleek body, extremely soft fur, and unbelievable obedience. I am not exaggerating when I say we get complements about her every day! We are blessed to have her in our family. read more

Please RUN, RUN, RUN from this "breeder"/puppy mill!! Don't be fooled by how beautiful these precious puppies are! These pups have wonderful temperament as well, but neither looks nor temperament are proof of a healthy animal or "breeding practice!" Oh their website might be flashy and impressive, but these folks practice unethical inbreeding to maintain the look of their dogs. This inbreeding guarantees a laundry list of health issues down the road that prove to be very, very costly and heart-wrenching. Of course there have been pups produced that have not had health issues, and if you had or have one of those rare pups, consider yourself one of the lucky few. These precious, precious puppies have the deck stacked against them from the beginning through no fault of their own. Each puppy whelped at this mill births numerous victims... the puppy, and those that welcome the puppy into their home/family. Consider this a forewarning from someone who loved and lost a 2yr old Golden Retriever from Sievers to Lymphoma. Even the Oncologist was familiar with the questionable practices of Sievers Retrievers!! read more

We went to Sievers Retrievers after we had lost a beloved senior lab that we had gotten from a breeder when we lived in Texas. To say that he was high maintenance, would be a major understatement but we were in love with the breed. We could not have been happier with the people that we met, the dogs that we saw and the gorgeous chocolate lab that we ended up bringing home. Our beautiful girl has been a healthy, easy tempered dog who has been a part of our family ever since. Even as second time lab owners, they were very attentive to make sure that we knew what to expect in the personality of a lab and that our family of three small children at the time was capable of the commitment. It was clear that they were looking for a good home for the puppy and not just looking to 'sell us' a dog. I read the other reviews describing them as a puppy mill and can tell you that this was no puppy mill. read more

I got the best dog in my life from Sievers Retrievers. She was a yellow lab with the sweetest temperament ever. From day one she came when she was called, and she adapted to the leash and learned loose leash walking very quickly. She never had any issues with her hips or elbows--in fact, she was extraordinarily healthy all her life. I lost her last year and grieve this loss every day. When I am able to get another dog, I hope to return here for a puppy. read more

Zero stars! Our golden retriever just turned 2 years old in July and we have to put her down tomorrow with kidney problems. She was the sweetest golden and now I have to break the news to my 7 and 9 year old.
