I have been here about a week in the effort to learn Spanish in a do or die course. I have been looking for about the same amount of time for good local Breweries or Beer Bars as I feel like it's expected due to me being from Seattle. If I left now I would think the closest thing they have to "craft" beer would be InBev owned Patagonia.
While I did find a few places that I enjoy going to in Palermo I have to say that standard really did take a step up when I walked into Siberia. The owners clearly take a lot of pride in local smaller named breweries. The beer on tap is of an incredibly high standard with a few in particular that warrants a visit to the actual brewery.
- Vibe - This is a small location but it does have an outdoors area in the front if you are not a huge fan of the dim lighting that most places here thrive on. They give you complimentary peanuts if you want but they also have a kitchen in the back if you are feeling like something more. The atmosphere is very inviting even for a non-Spanish speaker coming in on my own.
- Beer - The beer is extremely good, not just for this part of the world but over all in my opinion. Argentina does not seem to do a lot of the heavy hop beers one would see in the United States but this place was still able to showcase a 12% Stout and a 7% Brown (At the time of my visit like I said they rotate). You will not find the traditional Quilmes, Stella, Patagonia (If you're even that lucky...which is saying something) so expect to pay a bit more for a beer that outshines other places that brand themselves as Beer Bars (Still far cheaper than any craft beer I could get in Seattle). That being said if you truly do enjoy a beer it would be incredibly unwise to pass this place up and give it a shot. They also have a mini fridge with bottles you can take home if that is what you aim to do.
- I cannot speak for the food as I did not try it out
- I also cannot speak for the traditional hours they are open because my inner clock hasn't conformed to how late Buenos Aires tends to party
I would like to give a warm thank you to the owners of Siberia. I do not usually like to give reviews to places I plan to frequent but this place was a big game changer for my time here. Over my next 3 months here I will be sure to pop in quite a bit.
Thanks for appreciating how good beer can be regardless of what part of the world you are in! read more
