From watching the show Home Town, Shug's was definitely on the list to pick up some sweet treats while visiting Laurel. There was plenty of parking across the street from the shop. There is ice cream, milkshakes, cookie dough, and baked treats to choose from. Inside the store there are several tables to sit at to escape the heat of summer. We made our way over to the baked treats and purchased an assortment to bring back to our AirBnB. The customer service was great and helpful when making our selections. Let's get to the goodies! I loved the cookie square I got with the watermelon in icing on top. Makes for a cute seasonal dessert. The cookies were yummy along with the white chocolate peanut butter balls. My visit to Shug's initially excited me as they had a lot of really amazing looking things. The ambiance of this spot really is nice and they have a lot of great looking stuff to see when you first walk in. The service here was very friendly and a lot of very nice folks. I've never seen any macaroons anywhere else in the Laurel, MS area so I was really happy to see they had them here. I LOVE macaroons so I was so excited to get one and bit into it... sadly I found my experience to be a very dry crumbly macaroon that I might go so far as to call stale. I've eaten many macaroons in my time and this one is on the bottom of my list sadly. I would suggest sticking with the other items here like the candy as I did enjoy my chocolate candy I ate. Overall this is the only game in Laurel, MS for desserts like this and for your macaroon fix I would wait for a visit to New Orleans. read more

Cute shop with great staff! We got in nearly at closing and yet they were welcoming to us. There was the cutest little (3y/o maybe) boy there who's family were in a lot so he was truly at 'home'! He gave us his recommendations and I loved it! We had never had Corn Flake stacks so we got a few, as well as Truffles & macaroons . Cute place and wonderful staff. My husband had a lavender lemon macaroon and it was delicious. I bought some of the fruit slices and they were wonderful. We also bought some chocolate covered almonds. If you're looking for your old fashion candies like candy cigarettes, wax lips, all of those oldies but goodies... Ugh, so much promise.... I mean candy! Normally a way to my heart but it was so dark in there I really couldn't find the way. I mean to say it was kind of dimly lit. The entire place didn't feel bright like a cookie dough, candy, and ice cream place ought to. The few things we tried were either overly sweet or overly dense. I hope they choose to make a few changes in design and product quality and I wish the best for them. read more

I have been following Shug's on IG for a while. We were in Laurel today and made a special stop by to check them out. I was disappointed in the very limited variety of items to choose from. The case was about 1/2 empty except for a good choice of macaroons. My daughter ordered 5 of them. The worker said she was sorry but could she put them in a bag. (Macaroons are fragile.) I asked if she had a small box, because I was going to get a few things too. She said not really except the pink and they are for Valentine's Day. We ended up with the big box white in the picture & the macaroons still in a clear cellophane bag. Everything should have been placed in some sort of box or container to begin with. Pictures coming! I ordered the cornflake candy as this was something I grew up eating at my aunts house and loved it then! I also got some chocolate chip cookie dough for my hubby. The shop is so cute and put together so well.. There was also a small boutique of cute clothing when walking in as well! The selection of macarons are great! Then handmade pralines, chocolate dipped pralines and a couple other treats. All in all, we will be back here our next time in Laurel! read more

Definite 5 star rating here. Shug's offers not some of the best, they offer The best treats you can find in town. Yeah they have all the cool, actually very delicious cookie dough you can try, plus numerous candies, and in-house candies you can try. But if you're really wanting something that will knock your socks off, you've got to get a milk shake. I haven't had a milk shake in literally about 7 years (I prefer my calories to come from a cold blue can), but I took a leap of faith, and got an oreo milkshake, O.M.G. I've never had a milkshake that tasted that good, obviously it was very fattening, but I did not feel an ounce of guilt. Think I'm going to make my milkshakes a yearly thing from now on. Thank you Shugs. Oh and I definitely can not end this review without mentioning their cookie cakes. Any time there is some type of holiday, event, made up pet birthday, my wife has to have a run-a-way bride cookie cake made. I can't lie though, that cookie cake is freaking Dankalicious fam. Stopped in to check out the shop and have a little snack. On the advice of the staff, we tried the cookie bake with some chocolate chip and runaway bride (kinda like birthday cake) cookie dough with some ice cream and chocolate syrup. It was delicious and the portion was enough for two. I would highly recommend giving them a try! read more

My family and I were driving through Laurel, MS and were told to check out Shug's Cookie Dough and Candy Bar. The milkshakes were amazing along with the Keto FatBombs! The place was awesome, and the staff was really great. We even got a recommendation for lunch at Lee's Coffee and Tea down the street. We were looking for ice cream in Laurel. An online search showed that Shug's Coolie Dough and Candy also had ice cream. We went in and saw a case with a sign that said ice cream and with containers like those seen in ice cream shops. We asked for the strawberry "ice cream" and were given a scoop in a cup for each of us. We sat down to eat and realized we were eating cookie dough not ice cream. The cookie dough was tasty, but was not what we wanted and was misrepresented as ice cream. We ate about half and threw the rest away. Maybe we missed something, but don't call a product something it is not. read more

The milkshakes were very good as was the service. Unfortunately, this establishment was not interested in patron safety during COVID. No signage for masks, employees did not wear mask and social distancing was not being enforced in any way. While my wife and I were wearing our masks there were no less than 10 other customers who were not wearing mask in the store. read more
