I would like to say how much my son says he loves and needs this program. At first the first day was a little hectic for him as he does suffer from ASD (Autisum Spectrum Disorder) and sort of had a meltdown and left the property wondering for a few hours and then returned. it has been 3 weeks and he calls home eveyday thankful he stayed and I encouraged him to stay. He really loves the staff and has made friends. He is excited about the trades and feels good about routine and his future. He prays due to the truck accident none of the students including him have to go home or be transferred to another center. He says the staff is real attentive to your needs and compassionate about people's disabilities and tries to approach requests in a timely manner. This place is a godsend! read more

Literally the worst experience of my child's life. Will be putting a formal complaint in. Staff is inexperienced.

I got a text from the center saying that I would be separated due to leaving because of Corona virus. I didn't want to quit so I called the front desk at the center and told them about my issue. The guy who answered sounded angry and told me "he did not know anything about that" and hung the phone up on me, which was externally rude because I was going to ask him to transfer me to someone I could talk too. I call back and ask if I could be connected to my counselor as s he switches the call I hear him grumble "F**king C*nt". This service is absolutely awful and all that attitude towards a student just because that want to make sure that they aren't going AWOL. Good grief Shriver, after being a student here for almost two years this is how you treat us? all in all we're just a brink in the wall, eh? read more

This has got to be the most unprofessionally run center/program I have ever been/seen. The staff members can't communicate with each other nor the students. The buildings are old and they won't fix the roof until they'll probably collapse. Certain "instructors" won't actually teach or give you the "hands on experience" they promise. The students who are adults like myself are treated like they never been in the real world and get treated like kids, and I understand some students here need help but don't round those students with the rest. The chefs here are mostly gone so many of us are kept hungry waiting for the next meal. If I could give this place 0 stars I would, but if you have no other option in life then this is the place for you. All I recommend for you is to get your trade and certifications completed and get back to the real world as quick as possible. If I get in trouble for using my freedom of speech for posting this then this shows how impotent this center is at teaching real world experience. P.S. to anyone looking for a job at this center, goodluck. Majority of staff members here have left. The company who runs this place has a focus of bringing in as many students as possible but can't keep chefs or instructors/teachers to aid those students. Makes you think what their actual agenda is, possibly scamming the gov't for money with the contract they have and cutting down on the budget because they get certain amount of money for each student they bring in which they can't keep cuz students leave too. A Last Resort For Those Who Are Desperate I have been at Shriver Job Corps for the past three months. I started a trade and found the class itself to be quite pleasant. You work at your own pace which can be very lenient. It may not be a blast, but the work is pleasant and certainly can help you further your career potential. There are also many resources to help your career such as talking with staff on budgeting, job searching, and even improving yourself. The problem comes with dorm life. If you want to go here, I would highly recommend going "non-res": attending the program but living off-center. Many of the students here do not care at all and show no human decency toward other students. Their general attitude is negative and trashy. On top of that, you are put into a single dorm with three other students, many of whom can be especially loud, obnoxious, and even unkempt. There are exceptions, but this is the majority. Many staff members, both on-campus and the off-campus higher-ups, are apathetic. They give off a very negative, critical, "corporate" vibe and many seem to not have a clue how to do their jobs, giving a very unprofessional impression for a program promoting professional behaviors and lifestyles. There is also little regard for disabilities. I have a little-known disability that has caused me great distress. They put me in a two-person dorm for people with disabilities. A few weeks later, I was placed with someone with no disability. The person in question provided no accommodations nor understanding of my disability, even after I had explained it in detail and reported said person to staff numerous times. The staff would talk with this person but would otherwise perform no helpful actions. I suffered from a serious mental breakdown before the staff took the action to move me out to another dorm. In summary, I would not recommend applying for this program. I would recommend instead you look toward a CareerCenter or another trade school unless you are desperate with no other options or no place to live. read more

Great place. My son goes there. This is a federally funded fed program. Job corps is a great program if you need a second chance in life. They work with you to better your education and you have choices to pick a vocational trade. If you Google Job corps you can read all about the program and what they have to offer. They are very strict there and they do not tolerate drugs or any other kind of trouble.Breaking rules while at job Corp can lead to termination. When getting​ accepted at job corps you need to be serious about having a goal in life and a willing to succeed. You should want to go hear and you should not go hear if you are being pushed to go by anyone other then yourself. Its up to you if you want to succeed in life. Job Corp gives you the tools you need to succeed,you just have to take advantage of what they have to offer. The staff is great. My brothers daughter went here over a year ago and took culinary arts and she did great advancing to further her culinary skills assisted by Job Corp in I believe California. Once I saw how well she was doing I had my own son apply and after getting all his paperwork in order he was accepted a few months back. You live there,sleep there and eat there. Monday through Friday you have classes for education and vocational shops so when you graduate from here ( a nine month program) hopefully you'll be ready for the working world. After the 9 month program you do have a chance to take a extension of Job Corp to further your skills if you so desire. I can't stress enough that you have to put your best foot forward to succeed at job Corp ! I can honestly sit hear today as im writing a great review because I am very impressed with the staff and the program they have to offer. While staying at job Corp you are responsible for the upkeep of your bedroom and general living area. When I took the initial tour of the place in devens Massachusetts I was impressed 100 percent with there facilities and staff running it. If your reading this review and have a interest in going to Job Corp ,Google Shrivers Job Corp and read all about it. It tells you almost everything you need to know. I cannot reiterate that you have to want to go there,No one can do it for you ! You have to do it yourself. So once again you have great support from the staff at job corp and if you want to further your education and future this place is a great.
