I have been driving past this place for a while and kept saying that I wanted to try it. Today was the day. Stopped in for breakfast this morning and was not disappointed. Nothing fancy but everything was good and the staff was very friendly. Eggs cooked perfectly, thick bacon, good coffee. Want fruit or cottage cheese instead of hash browns, no problem. Service here is great. Always has been. The workers are very friendly. But the food has gone downhill. For a few years they've been my go to for breakfast burritos - I'd even drive here from south Anaheim for them. But lately they've gotten worse with the quality. The last few times I've gone, spaced out a couple weeks at a time, I would order a sausagr breakfast burrito and, well, there just want much sausage. The amount of sausage in my burrito each time seems to be approximately 1-1.5 regular breakfast sausage links which is hardly reason to be paying $10 for a breakfast burrito - the rest of it is just eggs and potato and some cheese. In the past the breakfast burritos were filled with meat almost to the point of too much. But now it's the total opposite and not enough meat. If this is how it is now I'll just have to find a different breakfast burrito joint. Life's too short to be spending $10 on an egg and potato breakfast burrito. Very disappointing. read more

Been here many times. It's usually busy in the normal morning hours, but the waiters and waitress hold down the fort exceptionally well. A nice homey place, with hot pancakes, and yummy french toast. My wife and I have come to Shortyz almost a dozen times before covid-19 disrupted 2020. We both always order steak and eggs and always commended the steak to friends if they're able to try it. Have gotten take out twice since the pandemic and have been so disappointed,that we've ultimately decided to not come back due to that. First take out,we specified medium on our steaks as we have always done and it turned out to be well (very well) done,to where we weren't able to finish our steaks. Second take out,maybe a month to month and a half after the first take out, we had remembered what happened the first time and ordered our steaks medium rare this time. Same result,steaks were very well done. Not as dry and overcooked as the first time,but wouldn't even call it medium. As an aside,when they do take out,the heat from the hashbrowns has melted a portion of the bottom of the styrofoam container. Would probably be better to put aluminum foil as to avoid having customers feeling like they're hashbrowns with a side of styrofoam. read more

My Dad and I visited Shorty'z for the second time today. The first time was on a weekend, and while the service and food were just as good, the crowd (everyone know their food is delicious) made it a little overwhelming. Today was a week day. What first struck me was the cohesiveness of the staff and their friendly demeanors. Everyone worked together, and even though it is a walk up service/counter, we were given a number and our food was delivered to our table. We were checked on often, our coffee was refilled, and our table was bussed. The restaurant is clean and quaint with whimsical prints of food adorning the walls. The staff is CONSTANTLY busy, cleaning tables, checking on customers and restocking. My Dad and I will definitely visit again. The food was great, with ample portions. The menu indicated my Dad's breakfast choice, the French toast combo, would arrive with two strips of bacon, but he actually received four. The food and coffee were deliciously hot. The huge windows allow natural light in, and some car watching. There are both booths and tables, as well as outdoor seating. read more

Took 20 minutes to get my burger. All I got was a burger no fries or anything. I think they don't bring it out as it's ready but they bring it out in bulk. Not a fan of that. Burger was good and the price was great, under 5 bucks for a classic burger without cheese. Nothing to blow your mind, meat tastes like it was frozen but I could be wrong. All in all its not a bad stop. Just expect and accept it's classic American style, which to me is a good thing. 3.5 stars honestly. I was about to start my review the same as my last, I like this place. Best deal locally, and they always cook my eggs correctly. Tried the chicken fried steak today, pretty good. The only thing on my plate that I think could use some improvement is the gravy. Me and my wife came here off the excellent reviews being left on yelp. My wife ordered the country fried steak with eggs, hash browns and sour dough toast. Her eggs and hash browns came out cold, her hash browns were not cooked long enough and looked extra greasy. Her country fried steak did not taste like a country fried steak. We had to get a refund because it was so bad. I ordered the breakfast meaty burrito, it came out hot but the meat inside tasted burnt and hard. Food was fast and great. I had the breakfast combo with pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon. Bacon was cooked to perfection! Wife had the veggie burger with zucchini fries. Great burger and the best zucchini fries per wife. They cut it in small pieces so it still has the taste and not so hot. Other places they have big pieces that the flavor is lost and burns your tongue. They asked us coffee refill about 5x, and with a smile every time. Seems like the staff like what they do. On first glance, Shorty'z might seem like any other diner that you could find on a street corner. The spelling might make you think it is tacky, the white paint could leave you with the impression it's not exciting, and the short time it's open might not give you confidence in having good enough food to be open all day--I mean even Denny's is open 24 hours. But you'd be wrong to let its appearance stop you from eating one of the most delicious, affordable and friendly breakfast experiences Fullerton and Placentia has to offer. The meals are well priced and the servings are generous. The staff is warm, friendly and talks to you like you're an intelligent customer whose business they truly value. My favorite item thus far has got to be the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are fluffy with a generous amount of white gravy. Unlike many places, they have real big chunks of glorious sausage mixed in like M&Ms in trail mix. I've had the breakfast burrito, and they have the perfect, hard to find ratio of eggs to potatoes to meat. The pancakes are great, a small stack ($2.50) is more than enough for one person and then with a side of the biscuits and gravy you'll be spending only about $6! Now, full disclosure, I've been coming here for a while and I have made memories here that probably make me like this place a little more than a new restaurant. It's not particularly inventive, which would normally be a fault because breakfast can be bland. But that's the beauty of Shorty'z; they do it so well that what would normally be basic/traditional is just great food. Eat here please. read more
