Lived there for a few years, very relieved to be out of there. The issues are many starting with the condo board, which is a snake pit of people who cannot get along and therefore can't get anything done. There is infighting, toxic gossip, they sue each other(!) --accuse one another of theft of condo funds, they've had to re-run board elections because of vote tampering and bullying--I wish I were kidding, but it's all true. They're just a bunch of sad control freaks. Things have gotten so combative that the management office is now locked during business hours after a board member barged in and tore through their files. No one can enter the office now without calling ahead. it's nuts. The building is aging and in dangerous disrepair--as in I don't believe it's structurally sound. Water from the abutting East River comes pouring into the underground parking garage under the building when it rains or snows. the cracks and erosion are obvious. I believe the building is unsafe and you couldn't give me a unit there. ConEd bills are insanely high year-round, and the building has shifted and settled so much that windows don't seal properly, so the cold wind blowing through all winter. The people who work there are great. The problem is that many of the residents are entitled asshats who treat the workers with total disrespect. I could go on, but I won't. Really nice apartments in the Shore Towers. They all have balconies which are either on the river view or on a beautiful view of Astoria and part of south Manhattan. The place feels very secure with doormen around the clock and locked doors. They offer free shuttles from the towers to the subway station of the N train at Astoria boulevard. Pretty awesome after a whole day of work, or when it's raining. Of course all this comes at a higher price, but it's all worth it. read more

I've only been here a couple of years. I'll have to update periodically. I'm very happy overall. Having said that, little things bother me. The pool that is supposed to be the big draw to this place is nothing more than a kiddie pool. Completely overrun by mommies and daddies and screaming babies. There's hardly any room to really sunbathe. There a tiny perimeter outside the enclosed pool where you can catch maybe a couple of hours of sun if you're lucky. There's a lot of weird politics going on with the Board of Managers and that's just from the little I hear. But I know that's common in most if not all condos and co-ops. Owners sit on this Board for years and few fresh faces have a chance to be voted in. There isn't many YOUNG SINGLES around that I can see. And you don't hear about any activities the renters or owners might want to inititate. And people are not really friendly. The laundry room is OK but it would be nice if they had modern machines that took credit cards. There are 3 parking lots but the waiting list for the under-ground parking lot is supposedly years long! Lastly, Kathy the secretary is very sweet but other than her, the Superintendent Nick and the Manager Rolinda are very DISMISSIVE and PRETENTIOUS. Nick especially walks around (along with his entire Slavic extended family) like he owns the entire complex. I've seen him yelling at tenants like they were his children. Why are these type of people allowed to hold and keep these positions? Finally, the 24 hour doormen: most of them are great. I really love the Black dudes who keep to themselves and don't say much. I'm not the type of person who likes inane small talk (see previous reviews, hahah) so as long as they say a cordial hello, that's fine. But there are these 2 White MEATHEADS that really rub me the wrong way. They remind me of the juiceheads who work at a gym or tanning salon who look down on the clientele because they are in some position of authority. The type who will ogle at the "hot chicks" as if you don't notice. The type that will gossip about you to anyone and everyone if you do or say something unusual. UGGHHH! I lived in shore towers for more than 5 years as a renter. The apartments are decently sized, we've got a king bed and plenty of room for a desk, and furniture for two in the bedroom. The balcony and the bedroom closet are the highlights of the apartments. I can't comment on all the units as the owners have a lot of control but the basic model which is what renters usually get is nothing special. Cheap carapet, appliances and finishes- mine haven't been updated since this place opened in 1991. But a comfortable living space. The amenities are nice. Parking is included, which is great. Storage in the lobby for an extra fee. Laundry room is big but pretty good. Its under renovation now so hopefully it gets better. The pool is small but there's a decent little sundeck. Not bad for a lazy summer afternoon. 24 hr security is nice for receiving packages. I like the security guards in general, never really had any problems with any of them. There's a shuttle bus to and from the subway during rush hours. It's nice but the driver is totally unreliable. I often take the 15 minute walk in the afternoon. The location is not ideal but it's quiet, near the park and there's some stores and restaurants in convenient walking distance. Price wise - it gets interesting. There's a huge variation in rents because you rent from the owner. Some of them are reasonably priced, others aren't. Sale prices seem too high still too. Management is fine. It's a condo-what do you expect? Barely noticed a change with the new company. The board does seem totally crazy, not that I care. They've gone through four security companies since I've been here. I've heard of lawsuits concerning elections at least three separate times. To sum up, if the price was right I would recommend this place for a couple or small family. If you want to go out in the city a lot, it's not a great option unless you have a driver. read more

I've been living here for 3 months. When I signed my lease as to "no pets allowed" I completely forgot because everyone in the building has a pet. Can you believe I am being chased out of my apartment from the manager Arthur, a fat Santa clause that is going to have a heart attack one day. My land lord is okay with me having a pet! But Arthur has a problem with my mini tea cup Pomeranian. I don't like this place for other reasons such a the construction! All you hear is the jack hammer at 8:50am and it last all day until 7pm! Even on Saturdays! And be prepared for the con ed bill to be $600.00 a month for a one bed room! This place is an old building and you will pay over price for everything. No guest parking either! Old gym! Over priced laundry room! Security harasses you for money! There so many other places to rent from! Don't live here!!!! read more

The building is like a hotel! Lots of amenities such as tennis court, pool, gym, dry cleaners....Cleaning staff and doormen are really nice. Cathy is management office is so nice to work with too! Highly recommend the building. The people who gave bad reviews for getting a ticket for parking in the lot when they weren't supposed have to realize that they were taking someone else's spot. Be warned about the unreasonable NON refundable $325 move in/move out fee (so if you want to move on Saturday, in and out, paying $650 just for that!) That completely blows dude. And if you take the day off of work to move out Mon-Friday, it's $250. BLOWS. read more

We liked the building & its amenities and wanted to live there. At this time we decided to rent and worked with the real estate agent Lona. She was nice to show us around couple of times but also, she lives in the building so not too difficult to do. We liked the apartment she showed us for rent and wanted to give her deposit, but she would not take it! she said that she had to check with some other guy, who saw the apartment 10 days before us and told her that he was interested. The guy was now overseas and told her that he would send a friend with a deposit (her story No. 1) the next morning. When we called the next afternoon, the guy of course did not send the deposit so Lona suddenly said that the owner did not get back to her how he wanted her to proceed (her story No. 2). We told her several times we could bring the damn deposit but she still would not take it!!! common Lona! in real estate, whoever is giving you a deposit first, gets the apartment! Be careful to use her as the agent! read more

Although I do not live in the apartment, my tenant has had nothing but trouble with both the manager and the maintenance man Nick. I have owned the apartment for years and only used it as a means for overseas family members to have a place to stay, close to the city, rather than have to travel from my home in Long Island. The apartment has only been rented since October 2013. Yet I have never been so underwhelmed by services that were supposed to be part of the great Shore Towers experience. My tenants complain continuously about Nick and his lack of work ethics, the managers lack of concern for the tenants well being, the poor quality of repair work outside of the building, the many amenities listed in the website that are not available once you move in. The lack of enjoyment of the beautiful view, because they covered the terrace and sealed the balcony doors so that the tenant cannot go out on the terrace. The dismissive attitude of the manager, and the smirks of Nick, when he is asked to fix something repeatedly for months! I pay high maintenance fees to the Metropolitan Pacific, I should not have to deal with this garbage. I should not have to deal with angry calls from my tenants. read more

As a resident and owner for the past 29 years at Shore Towers I gave five stars for many reasons. The building is maintained impeccably inside and out. Yes, there are rules that every person living there needs to abide by as the building has over 400 apartments with countless residents. I'm an owner who has struggled with both the building's management and board since a faulty oven caused a fire in my unit. Because of house rules, I was not allowed to use my insurance company for structural repairs. Instead, the management company Metropolitan Pacific, represented by Arthur Baxter, was given free reign to choose their contractor. According to Mr. Baxter, the contractor they chose, M. Marin of Long Island, approached them with a contract where the building would not have to pay a deductible, doing the work strictly for insurance payout; this is where the building's management clearly demonstrates its willingness to make questionable fiduciary decisions that directly affect the owners. In terms of compensation, Mr. Marin clearly wrote it was only for insurance compensation only - I can only suggest the management willingly ignored their fiduciary responsibility by accepting such an offer in light of the work these contractors did. Not only did the contractors damage common property (the balcony), but apparently management let them illegally use it for storing waste and power tools otherwise forbidden in the HOA rules. Other things the Marin left unfinished and is refusing to repair: the fire remediation was never done properly - the twice painted ceiling is cracking a second time; I have cracks in the walls over all 5 door frames in the apartment that extend from frame to ceiling; I have hardwood floors that were never leveled; the contractors never finished their plumbing work; no cabinet was hung level, and they damaged the drywall in the process and refuse to fix it; all the taping on the ceiling is falling off; and that's just for starters. Management, complicit in the hiring of Marin without considering his responsibility to unit owners and agreeing to a contract that would knowingly not pay the contractors the amount required for correct repair, refuses to do anything more. The board may also be as complicit, as they have put off meeting with me, their constituent, for weeks. So beware - if you are looking at this building, you are looking at a poorly run and ethically questionable management and leadership. I think my own experience serves as a warning to anyone who thinks this building is "reasonable" for the area in terms of cost... its only "reasonable" because people are willing to sell units for less to escape the poor, failing management of the building. Had my real estate agent done his due diligence, I would have seen the mountains of violations and recurring fines and avoided this place (make sure your realtor checks into the history building violations - you'll be in for a shock!). This condo is a money pit because of a leadership void. That's not to mention how the overall condition of the building has degraded considerably over time, the high cost of heating, the fact there is no nearby shopping, as well as the services lost over the years. If you can afford it - look elsewhere. If you can find a bargain and you don't mind living here for a few years before then renting it out and moving elsewhere (as more than half the owners have done) it might be a worthwhile investment. read more

I've been here for since 1995 one of the first owners. Beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bath spacious closets and good sized living room with an expansive balcony overlooking the RFK Bridge, Astoria Park & Randalls Island. After 18 years my Unit certainly needs a makeover (new heating/AC units, new appliances, bathroom upgrades) but that is my responsibility. Currently the building looks like it is in a state of siege with scaffolding all around to repair a botched cement job during the original construction. After 20 years elevators need upgrading. You don't pour cement in November. The negatives noted in other posts about the Condo Board have some merit, but I have found the Board, Management Office, Security, Maintenance and Superintendent always helpful to me. There are some owners with agendas and who have a combative style and they more than Board contribute to the political intrigue. The Board often has acted as referees to meet conflicting needs of unit owners. A 400 Unit Building in NYC with a wonderful ethnically and age diverse set of owners takes a lot of coordination. For me coming home to a gorgeous NYC cityscape, a secure building, with my car securely parked, security having my UPS deliveries ready for me, a convenient laundry & dry cleaning service in the building, enjoying a drink an dinner on the balcony on summer evenings, a stroll to Astoria Park, a workout on the exercise bike in the gym and a 15min walk or 5 min shuttle ride to LGA or the N train and then on to Manhattan in another 15 minutes meets my needs. Yes there are newer more modern constructions all over Queens now, but overall I am happy with my investment and my home of 18 years. And my neighbors over the years have been friendly to me.
