Anyone who gives this establishment a bad review must have serious issues, because this is one of the best restaurants i have ever had the privilege to visit! We ate here on our first night in Tulum, and I will never forget it. My stomach was sort of hurting, so that subtracted from my enjoyment slightly, but it does not really matter, because once I came around, I was enlightened on how great of a restaurant this was. We ordered a lightly fried eggplant dish for an appetizer, and it was delicious. The eggplant did not take very much time to arrive, and neither did our entrees. The entrees were especially good, and we all sampled other entrees. We ordered a chicken tandoori, a chicken korma, and a tikka masala. They were all delicious. I ordered the tikka masala, and it was quite spicy, but all entrees came with a yogurt sauce, and I used it to dilute some of the spice and to increase the flavor further. The owner Vinay is a very kind host, and he talks to all the people eating there! We liked the restaurant so much, we returned at the end of the trip. Vinay was very delighted to see us back, and on that visit, I ordered a lamb vindaloo, which was also delicious. We ordered some samosas on our second visit, and they were the best samosas I have ever had. Vinay gave us three desserts on the house, which was very kind of him, and they were all delicious, too. The food at the restaurant is reasonably prices, in addition to being succulent, delicious, and exquisite. I loved the interior design, along with the exterior design. It was an open air restaurant with a high, thatched roof, and it was divided into two parts. One part is near the entrance, and has oversized sofas and coffee tables to eat at, and the other section is out back, and has more standard seating. We ate in the back on our first visit, but we ate on the sofas on our next visit. There was a chandelier, and just the perfect amount of lighting. On the outside, there was a golden gate for an entrance, which was quite impressive. The sign was also designed adroitly. My only complaint is that the fans did not quite cool off the restaurant well enough, but in Mexico, nothing is ever enough. Vinay talked to us on both visits, and after both visits, I left quite impressed. Just a little message to anyone who goes to Tulum: Take a little break from Mexican food and go to Shiva! Go, go, go! read more
