The alcohol is unbelievably cheap and came in around half to 3/4's the price I would normally pay on a night out! I was let in early to move the tables around, decorate and bring in the food. To hire the room only cost around £50 and it was a fairly big room with a dance floor, bar and we also hired out a live band to play as there is a stage. The bar closed at midnight and we had to be out an hour after that, we had to clean the majority of the rubbish away which is fair enough but they did not mind you leaving the black bags there. I have not gone since but my parents (early 60's) go every week or so and they continue to enjoy it as they have live bands and bingo on throughout the week and weekend.

Oh dear, what on earth has happened in the past few years!!! The floors were sticky, the beer was poor, the toilets were disgusting; but worst of all by far were the staff. The 20 something assistant manager seemed incapable of following simple commands was very rude and exceedingly unpleasant to my friends and I and just stared at us with her mouth agape, like a lemon. But the manager was something else, let's just say she certainly has the grotesque personality to match her appearance... She was even more unpleasant, batting off any complaints and shouting abuse at the staff to work harder and left the severely understaffed bar to struggle with a big queue of customers wanting to be served. When I went into the members room to see how busy they were, there were precisely 5 people there who she was busy playing cards with. Completely unacceptable in my book. I used to be a member here 15 years ago and it was fantastic, but now it is severely struggling, my friends who used to go there have said the current manager has steered them into the abyss and driven out all of the regulars with her unpleasantness! It seems a case of staff having their feet under the carpet and doing whatever they like because they are friends with the right people. A new manager seriously needs to be appointed, or the club will never be as great as it once was!!! I will certainly never return as long as I know those 2 work there.

I've been to some private functions upstairs here and the booze is normally pretty cheap although don't expect anything special. The also cater, standard sandwiches and the like. You need a parking permit to park at the car park which is £1 for a year pass which you can get from the office as you walk just on the left. I have not attended any of the other groups but the room I am in is the main hall and is very big and would be large enough for a good sized party. I noticed to hire the room for an evening it is around £80 mon to fri and goes up to around £125 for a saturday evening. It has a small car park at the front but when it is busy it can be hard to get a spot as it is quite limited. It is always clean and welcoming.

And one drunken evening in Manchester watching The Orgy play we somehow managed to end up buying tickets for the new years eve party at the Old Yardelians rugby club in Shirley (Only 80 bloody miles away!). They put on a great evening,and everyone there had a great time bopping away and enjoying the lovely buffet that was laid on. A good mix of warm and cold food. Plenty of booze,food,music and good company,what's not to love? So,if come November time a bunch of beardy blokes in the Shirley area try to sell you a ticket,buy one,you won't regret it!!

I remember when why Granddad died of lung cancer; it was an awful painful existence towards at his death. After he died I paradoxically avoided Cancer Research, because it is an insidious disease and research seemed futile. That was a long time ago and now I'm happy to go to their charity shops. This is a particularly good one and has a fine selection of clothes, vinyl and ornaments. Caner research do great work and who knows, maybe one day there will be a cure?
