This is a beautiful space where people go to recover, rehabilitate, and restore their dignity and their lives. My 69 year old mother was a patient here and when she arrived doctors could arguably confirm she should be going into hospice, but we believed in God for her recovery - thankfully the owner Jim believed she could recover also. When she arrived she could not speak, feed herself well, and was physically weak all over. I was SO anxious to leave her in this state, but was immediately assured by staff that she was in good hands, and that she was safe. They nurtured her as if she were their family and I knew then even more that we chose the correct location. Within weeks she saw an eye doctor, physical therapist, speech therapist and occupational therapist. She participated in multiple types of activities (finger painting, gardening, celebrating birthdays, and her favorite - bingo!). After a month my mom graduated from puréed foods to a better diet, could feed herself, had less confusion, and was improving every single day. I am now happy to report she is even stronger, mind is sharper, speech is amazing, and can tackle occupational tasks that this facility assisted her to accomplish. It is the little things that we do every single day that we don't realize we miss until we don't have them. When we find ourselves in this place we need somewhere to go to recover - this is your place! The owner (Jim) will acknowledge you, spend time to speak with you, and the way he looks after his employees and is always upgrading the space shows deeply how much he cares. In my moms time there, they completed a beautiful remodel. Not once did this facility wreak of any smell. Jim - as I write this tears fill my eyes. I am SO thankful to God for your work! I am thankful for your spirit, and for showing up as your true authentic self! To ALL of the staff of Richmond Post Acute - you are all SO valued! You are all SO amazing! I pray you know just how much of an impact you are to the lives you touch! I pray that favor falls upon you. From the peace within my spirit - vibrant love and gratitude to you all!

Mina supervised and participated in care and always alerted me when something needed to be addressed. It is a nice house in pretty residential surroundings in the El cerrito hills. I trusted her with my mother and she had a very good quality of life until the end with them.

This review is…read moreintended to inform folks considering this place, which is actually a few different homes in same area under same management. Meina Wu, the RN who runs these homes, has a domineering stubborn streak which makes communication difficult, and readily admitted that they "do not give medication" - which in her own unique way says that they cannot handle elders who have a very detailed medication list or have significant care needs. Yet she DOES care about her residents and can handle those with simple needs such as feeding, cleaning, peace of mind, and simple medication. Unfortunately I cannot recommend RN3LovingCareHomes. 921 Elm was the location that our Mom stayed in, among 3 board and care houses in a row where workers shifted from one to the next. The good: the CNA's , caregivers, and helpers are all well intended, caring, sincere, and very hard working people, so again: if your Mom or Grandpa does not need much medication or medical help of any importance, this could be a great place to take them. The bad: if your loved one is in need of important, detailed medicine or has care needs that might include bandaging wounds, physical therapy, intensive care, or simply night care that involves changing a diaper, taking to the bathroom often, or has falling issues, etc, then this is NOT the place to take them. We had to constantly monitor these people: it took numerous visits by Kaiser Home Health Care nurses and PT's just to scratch the surface. They had to train the workers in many basic medical practices such as dressing and bandaging wounds and giving medication properly. In fact I personally had to instruct each caregiver how to dispense my Mom's meds and I do not work in the medical field in any way. The understanding of the English language is so poor here, most of them could not even understand the medication list even when it was clearly revised twice by the HHC nurses ! On so many occasions, I caught them about the give the wrong dose because they could not simply understand adding a 10 mg pill to a 2.5 mg pill to make a total dose of 12.5 ! Again there were major road blocks because of language comprehension. Also of concern is they give medicine by hand, often not washing hands between activities (!) On the first night that we hired night care, Meina told this person to stand outside the room, and we reported this to the agency. Meina told us that her caregivers could sleep on the couch and "hear" if my Mom was having any problems and then take care of it. Beyond the idiocy of this idea, there is the simple fact that on most nights the in house caregiver sleeps way down the hall. If a resident needs help they are out of luck and up a creek without a paddle. The one caregiver provided needs to sleep at night to function the next day and only gets up a couple times to check in on residents. In fact we ended up hiring a night sitter from a 24 hour care company to stay with my Mom. There is no way that an elderly resident with anything like Alzheimer's or recovering from a stroke with a fall-risk or maybe just has to use the bathroom or get changed often, can be safe and comfortable. This extra help costs were about $1000 per week, so that brought our bill for the month to about $10,000 when added to the board and care rent. The upshot is that it is incredibly difficult to find ANY board and care facility that has the medical knowledge and staff to handle ANYONE with significant needs, and Meina's RN3 LovingCareHomes are not exception. Unless your loved on has very simply care needs such as being fed and cleaned, this place will not be safe. I give two stars for the things they do well for simple needs elders, and again they all were really wonderful people, but as described here-in, for our Mom that was by far not nearly enough.

A very special thank you to Ms. Candi, the Admission Supervisor, whose professionalism, guidance, and dedication were absolutely exceptional. She made the entire admission process smooth and stress-free, and her support never wavered. I also want to highlight Christine, one of the therapists, and her entire team. Their expertise, encouragement, and positive energy made such a difference in my recovery. They truly went above and beyond to help me heal and regain confidence. Being injured and in need of aftercare was not easy, but the team here went above and beyond to make sure I had the care, comfort, and dignity I needed. The intake appt was about 10 or 15 mins & $150 out of pocket. Avoid. This is a slop shop that will overcharge & give only the very minimum. My intake appt was between 10 & 15 mins & rushed, with a very distracted staff. I do not feel that this was nearly enough time to learn about my injury, or show me how to do any exercises, or do any lifestyle PT coaching of any kind. The PT told me to do 2 exercises I was already doing. This was inadequate medical care. All of the staff were polite, friendly & professional. But rushed & distracted. My guess is that the issue was not the staff, but with the apparently intense schedule & metrics required by the business owner. The owner is promoting his 21+ adult content graphic novel(!!) & singing career in the waiting area. The bathroom was filthy with mystery fluid on the toilet seat, on the floor around the toilet, & on the sink & on the floor around the sink. Trampled used tissue paper on the floor & other trash scattered around. The trash can itself was very wet & the lid stuck shut so people were just throwing things on the floor. Because tissues were trampled down flat & fluids were on the floor, clearly it had not been cleaned or checked in substantial time. Like a truck stop restroom. I should have taken photos of it in this condition, but I REALLY had to use the facilities so I grabbed a can of Lysol that was laying on the ground & I sprayed the toilet down with Lysol & I threw away some of the trash on the floor. The entire facility had extremely hot & stuffy & muggy air. No ventilation in sight. The humidity of a nightclub, like lots of people breathing into an enclosed space. Unclean air & total lack of ventilation is how airborne disease spreads, & how airborne pathogens like covid spread. Stuffy to the point that almost everyone including staff had wet hair & wet shirts sticking to them from sweat. I tested myself for covid after the appt every other day for a week, & thankfully I didn't catch covid there, but I would not have been surprised if I had. Very crowded & very noisy group exercise room. No masks on anyone. After the appt I talked to 3 people in the neighborhood & they'd been there, & both said their appts were never over 15 mins & neither of them were satisfied with the medical treatment they had received. One of them only went to 2 appts then changed to a new PT because of bad service. Both of these people paid cash out of pocket because this place didn't take their insurance. One of them saw that they billed her insurance $500 for the 10 min appt, & the insurance would not pay it. She was under the impression that her insurance would pay it eventually, but she was stuck with the bill. This place didn't take my insurance either. Apparently many people in the neighborhood know this place is no good, & I wish I had asked around before scheduling there & giving them $150 cash. Avoid this place! Highly distracted & rushed staff do 10 to 15 min appts & charge $500 for it, they don't take insurance, seriously stuffy air & bad ventilation, very unsanitary bathroom. I'd like to save other people from having negative experiences at this place - every other PT I have ever been has been so much better than this place. RUN! 4/26 UPDATE: I stand by everything in my review. All staff were polite, friendly, professional, efficient & knowledgeable. My appt was less than 15 mins. I checked the time. The 4 other people I spoke to also said that appts were never more than 15 mins. This is not enough time. I will ask my neighbors to add their reviews so there are similar comments from more people. Again, all appts were consistently less than 15 mins for all 4 of us. My neighbor confirmed that her insurance was billed $500 for 1 appt. The poster in the waiting area promotes Allen Ling's graphic novel company, including a QR code to his website. See the graphic novel poster. This QR links to an "age restricted content" page requiring a box to confirm they are of age to access "information of an adult nature & subject matter, which might depict sexual activity & erotic art." I didn't confirm because I didn't want to view adult content. Search "Allen Ling graphic novel" or "Daughters of Django graphic novel" for more info. The QR in the poster worked while I was in the waiting area, & when I added this review. Today the QR doesn't work to his website gen7comics.com The facility was very hot & stuffy, above 68-70 degrees. Most people had wet hair & wet shirts from sweat. It was much hotter inside the building than outside. The CO2 ppm reading was above 900, which is close to unsafe air, indicating a high level of recently exhaled air (~1.33%). That means people are breathing air that was recently in someone else's lungs. HVAC experts & the CDC recommend 800 ppm or less.

They are a company with a sincere mission of providing skilled, dependable care. A well-run company with both brains and heart. Both my own experience with them, and the experiences others have reported to me, have been outstanding. I highly recommend talking to owner Susan Grant at the El Cerrito Senior Helpers' office about your caregiving needs for yourself or a loved one. I do not hesitate to refer potential clients to them when my work schedule is full, and I love visiting their office in El Cerrito Plaza, because it is an oasis of calm and peace... full of friendly people who really want to engage and help you. I would encourage anyone thinking about getting into this field as a professional caregiver to talk to Susan about a career with Senior Helpers. They are a fair and equitable employer, and care as deeply about their employees as about their clients. There is no other agency I know of that I would make any of these claims about. Nor is there any other agency I would recommend working for. In my observation and based on my research, most are exploitative and poorly run. It has taken me over a year to write this, as the experience was emotionally draining and deeply upsetting. Senior Helpers was originally recommended for light assistance, but my mother required hospice-level care. Management represented that caregivers assigned to our home would be trained for this level of care. Based on our experience, this was not consistently the case. Multiple caregivers demonstrated limited training in personal hygiene, patient mobility, medication handling, and overnight monitoring. I personally had to step in or assist on numerous occasions. Some caregivers stated their training consisted primarily of instructional videos. While several individuals were kind and well-intentioned, they did not appear adequately prepared for end-of-life care. There were several patient safety concerns, including: A medication administration error in which more than the intended dose was given, despite clear instructions that caregivers were not to administer medications at all. Improper assistance with patient mobility, even though appropriate equipment was available. Overnight shifts where required monitoring did not occur. Specific instructions regarding my mother's physical limitations being ignored, resulting in a fall (thankfully without serious injury). Caregivers sleeping or using personal phones for extended periods during scheduled shifts. Additionally, a member of management charged me cash during a home visit that I was later told was supposed to be free. When I raised this issue, it was denied despite the interaction being documented on in-home cameras. These incidents were documented and shared with management. Responses generally focused on staff replacement and billing rather than addressing broader concerns related to training, supervision, or systemic issues. Staffing reliability was also inconsistent. Some caregivers arrived late, some shifts went uncovered, and continuity of care was limited. A small number of caregivers were excellent, but they were the exception rather than the norm. When I raised concerns with management and ownership, communication was difficult and unprofessional, and many questions went unanswered. Contractual notice requirements limited our ability to immediately discontinue services despite ongoing safety concerns. We eventually transitioned to another care provider. After doing so, my mother's care stabilized, and the overall stress in our home decreased significantly. Based on our experience, I would urge extreme caution when considering Senior Helpers for hospice-level or complex medical care. Families in similar situations should carefully evaluate caregiver training, supervision practices, and escalation procedures--and read the contract closely. Update: 1/7/2026 In response to the owner's reply requesting that I reach out by phone, I did so today. I left a message stating that I was returning the owner's request for contact and noted that I preferred not to speak with the manager due to prior communication difficulties. Approximately 15 minutes later, I received a call from that same manager. She was polite, expressed surprise at my experience, and stated that she did not recall our prior interactions. I responded calmly and professionally. The call lasted approximately three minutes. The conversation was brief and respectful on both sides. Later this afternoon, I was contacted by my local police department and informed that a complaint had been made alleging that my call involved threatening language or profanity. Those allegations do not reflect my recollection of the call, which was professional in tone and made solely in response to the owner's public request for contact. I explained this context and was advised not to contact the company again. I agreed. Thankfully both conversations were recorded by my security cam with time & day stamps. The officer said I could file a false police report, but decided I just needed to more on... and so should you.
