One of the historic houses in the museum complex here. This is the first one to be moved to the site. The whole block was the former cemetery for Newark, and only some of the graves were moved, so many are still onsite. A little creepy. If you are into ghosts, this house is said to be haunted.
Otherwise, it is a nice old early Victorian house, in the Federalist style. Some furnishings are original, the rest are period. It is decorated nicely, and there are many interesting pieces. The architecture and history of the house are impressive. A reading group met here, and there is a "book nook" outside the entrance that is more of a closet, that was used like little free libraries are today. Many other unusual details abound.
Tours can be arranged through the Licking County Historical Society. Allow about an hour, and visit the other sites nearby if you can. read more
