It is a venue for sports such as cricket, soccer (football) and athletics. There is a basketball hoop in the park, toilets and even tennis courts. The tennis courts are available for public use free of charge - except on certain mornings when the courts are reserved (see photo). Three ashphalt courts are available. If you're wanting a hit, make sure you bring your own tennis balls as there doesn't seem to be a sports shop nearby. While the few cheap stores in the plaza sell what look like tennis balls, one worker thankfully told me "don't use them to play tennis, they won't bounce." The park is used for community events also such as 'Music In Parks' - I saw some of Tim Finn's set there there last year (on the way home from doing my grocery shopping)!

It's a calm oasis in there, with the most amazing air con and facilities you have seen in a gym. In fact I think gym is too much of a dirty word to associate with this pristine place. Because they keep a cap on membership, there is never a line for the equipment, the instructors are always on hand to dole out helpful advice and they even email to check up on you when you haven't been in for a few days. The facilities available to all members and casual members include a swimming pool, sauna room,a tennis court and a great range of weights/ exercise bikes and heaps of other exercise equipment. There are classes available too, a favourite of mine being tennis fit! And don't even get my started on the bathrooms, and the straighteners available, the shampoo/ conditioner\ bathrobes. They really have thought of everything. Why just the other day I got offered a free hour long facial and massage just for being a member. Have I tempted you yet?

Firstly, it's the perfect size - big enough that you feel like you're at the "tennis" but small enough that even if you are sitting in the nosebleeds (as we were) you still have a great view. I even forgot my glasses and still didn't have any troubles seeing the ball, which is really saying something. Secondly, the hospitality/food area set up out the back is great. This year they got Masu on board to provide a fancy food alternative, which I loved. Food at sporting events is normally so average - hot chips, hot dogs and the like - that it's an absolute treat to see a decent alternative for those willing to spend a little more coin. I have no idea what they use this stadium for year round - junior competitions I suppose - but I hope that it's maintained and continues to operate just as it did at this year's Festival of Tennis! For the last few years they have held the woman's ASB classic and the men's Heineken Open competitions in early January. As well as tennis competitions, the ASB tennis centre has coaching for people of all ages and allow non-members to come and hire their tennis courts for a period of time. There is a pro-shop on premise where you can buy all the latest tennis gear including rackets, balls even clothing. There is also a gym attached called 'Next Generation'. So if you're after a hit around, make your way down to this stunning new tennis centre in the heart of Auckland. You'll have a blast.

They have a large carpark but it is almost always full and they have crammed quite a lot of parks into the area so they are quite tight, I have always managed to get a park however. The place is massive, it has a shop that sells tennis clothing and equipment, huge outdoor courts as well as small indoor ones that people were using to practice by themselves and a small gym where they give training. The kids lesson is 1 hr 30 mins long so I have quite a long time to wait but even though they are different ages their lesson is at the same time which is really convenient. Sometimes I wait and watch them as there is outdoor seating provided but if it is a bit cold I drive down to Newmarket which is less that 5 mins away and I can shop for and hour...perfect!

Not only is this…read morevenue situated in the midst of titirangi and its beautiful green landscapes but it is also one of the nicest tennis courts I have seen in a long time. They are the blue and green kind with fencing along its court sides. The adjoining club rooms are also really cool. The inside spaces are really nice and are often used for other events as well. I remember there was once a massive shoe sale there from random shoe stores. It isn't one of those places where you can just pop in and play for a few minutes or sneak in through a gap in the fence, you really have to be a part of the tennis club, even for just a short while, or know someone who is part of it, to get in there.

Four tennis courts, new AstroTurf and flood lighting; indoor squash courts; downstairs gym. A top sports and social venue.

That's why whenever you go there to walk your dog or to just go for a mere stroll with a friend, you are likely to see the teams at practise on a Saturday morning playing a game or 10. The space is also great for little kids, they can run around for miles. And there is a relatively new and modern play ground set up, which also doubles as an exercise spot. It's a really neat place. I like to go there just to go for a walk and stretch my legs - get some fresh air. There are hills and plenty of stairs too, so it's a great place for a workout!

Whatever the weather, it is a good day to walk the dog, the other thing about this park is that in winter it's never too soggy to walk as there are concrete paths meandering through the fields. There are three soccer fields, well utilized by local teams. This park also has two tennis courts, playgrounds and clubrooms with toilets.

They're a short walk from my house and are brilliant on a hot summer's day because they are right next to Lake Pupuke - perfect for a quick dip post hit (I feel obligated to mentioned here that whilst Lake Pupuke does the trick, it's not the nicest lake - there's a reasonable amount of swan poop in it and depending on where you go, there's weeds too). For those more competitive types they also have coaching for all ages as well as interclub. There are 6 floodlit courts, clubrooms with basic facilities and a concrete wall where you can have a hit by yourself. Unfortunately, you have to be a member to use the courts but from memory the membership prices are reasonable (check out their website for more details).

Marlborough Park in Glenfield has a little bit of everything for everyone. I love visiting for the…read moreplayground as it has a section of low tunnels and abacus balls for my preschooler to enjoy playing with; also swings and slides that suit the little and big kid. Not only are the children catered for, there is a basketball court, a skate bowl, a climbing frame, and even a flying fox. If your jogging in the area, why not pop in and work out on the free adult gym equipment? Fantastic park for a picnic on a warm sunny day, and with lots of trees is just really pretty to look at. Please don't miss the peace of Marlborough Park.
