Penglase & Benson - John S. Benson, Esquire

Penglase & Benson

I retained attorney John Benson of Penglase & Benson in Doylestown, PA, and paid him a retainer to…read morehandle my matter. Unfortunately, after collecting the retainer, there was very little communication and no meaningful progress on my case for approximately four months. During that time, I sent multiple emails and placed many calls requesting updates and asking about the status of my matter. Most went unanswered. When I attempted to call, I was repeatedly told he was unavailable, in meetings, or on vacation. Despite my efforts to communicate, I struggled to get any clear information about what work, if any, was being done on my behalf. When I finally expressed concern about the lack of progress and communication, I was told that he was servicing over 500 clients and was asked whether he had done a good job for me in the past. When I called again today to ask why my matter had not been addressed, I was told I was "holding a gun to his head" to get the work done because 30 days ago when I called asking for assistance, I mentioned I would contact the bar association to seek help. My frustration is not only with the lack of progress but also with the lack of professionalism and respect shown throughout the process. Clients deserve timely communication, transparency, and responsiveness--especially after paying a retainer and trusting an attorney to handle an important legal matter. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this attorney in Doylestown, Bucks County PA.

My faith in their dedication to their craft and hard work is rock solid. In summary, they are an invaluable partner, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second recommending them to others. She won my case in which I was originally denied. She had patience due to my poor memory. She always assured me that I will be ok during my court appearance. I felt like the load was off my back and on hers. Mark, I got to know later. He was nice and patiently answered all my questions and answered all my calls. I would recommend anyone. They are awesome. I won! Thank you, Shaveena H.

Kim was the paralegal who collected and processed my documentation. I appreciated having a primary point of contact prior to the proceeding. I never had a problem getting through to them, and anytime I left a voice mail message, it was returned in a timely manner. Lauren was the attorney who represented me in court. She was fantastic. I felt she was empathetic to what I was going through emotionally, and instrumental in helping me convey what I struggle with to the judge. I found her presence at the virtual proceeding very reassuring. I could not have done it without her. Marc, the attorney who owns and runs the practice, was a godsend, as well. He saw my case through to the end, and went above and beyond to get answers and help move things along. He was always communicative, cordial and easy to talk to. It's clear to me that everybody at Shipon cares (not only) about reaching a positive outcome for their clients, but also for their client's wellbeing. If you're looking for reputable lawyers to handle your disability claim, you can't go wrong with Shipon Law Associates. My claim was approved. Thank you so much Marc. Laura, Kim, and Brian!

Paul is an absolute gem of a lawyer. This was my first experience hiring and working with a lawyer,…read moreand I can't say enough good things about him and his work. He is extremely fair, honest, and professional which is a lot when compared to some other people in this field. I had reached out to many lawyers about my landlord issue, and I was dismissed. Paul listened to my case and the details I had, and was able to settle the case in my favor. He is VERY communicative, and quick to respond to any emails. I don't know how he does it! If you need a lawyer you can trust, go to Paul! I look forward to working with him again in the future.

UPDATE: this attorney emailed me multiple times to complain about this review, a responsiveness…read morenotably absent when he was being paid to represent me on an urgent matter. I offered to change the review if he could demonstrate that any aspect of it was not factually accurate. He responded only with petty attempts at insults. I am legally disabled and was forced out of my sublet when the primary tenants entered illegally and claimed to be my roommates on July 6. I was referred to this attorney through ARAG legal insurance. On July 9 at 1:41PM this lawyer informed me via email "The only choice you have is to start an emergency action for illegal access" and agreed to be paid by ARAG to file this on my behalf. He informed me that he would not be able to file until early the following week. That was the last time he took a call from me. That evening I tried to retrieve belongings and the primary tenant tried to have me arrested. I called my lawyer frantic. He never acknowledged the call. I did not receive a draft until July 15, It had multiple omissions including failing to include any exhibits. He told me to make suggested edits but did not provide a document in editable format. I finally generated a Word doc with my suggested edits and asked if any were relevant. His only response was to demand payment for the process server and filing fee without instructions on how to submit payment which I did not receive until July 17. He suggested that I simply enter the apartment to retrieve the belongings, ignoring 1. the police instruction not to try to enter without a police escort and 2. that I am disabled and cannot move belongings without assistance.I asked him what I needed to do to get him to file the document in Court - now 11 days after I was forced out - and he withdrew, telling me to file myself ignoring, again , I AM LEGALLY PHYSICALLY DISABLED and sent me his wholly inadequate OSC draft which did not even have the the defendant's name spelled correctly. He had the option to decline the job on July 9. Instead he strung me along, knowing that I did not have access to Rx medication and other disability aids, for over a week before abandoning my case. I am now locked out, without my medication and other belongings, and have no help with Court. Shameful, unethical, and just cruel conduct
