I was here on vacation visiting my daughter this week on Friday Dec 11, 2020. I was very disappointed but my daughter did warn me that Texas was not known for good food. I expected better though because usually food is better in the country than in the city. Thanks for breaking that stereotype from my head. I had a pound of crabs which btw I think they cheated me on. The crabs combo sauce was a mess. I should have just chosen one instead of the combo sauce cause they just basically threw together some nasty sauce full of salt and absolutely no taste. The crabs were not very flavorful and the potatoes weren't even done. Let's not get on those nasty sausages eww . The corn was tasteless all except the ton of salt poured on them in that sauce. Enjoyed this impromptu dinner very much! Went about 2 weeks ago on a Thursday. Got seated quickly, altho good crowd. Atmosphere is very inviting. Employees very friendly and professional. We went there last night 11:15 pm. Monday night. Ordered oysters dozen count and Queen crab with corn, potatoes and sausage. Oysters were old and gummy. Advised the waitress. She laughed it off and didn't take it off our bill. Queen crab bag was over cooked. Corn was very over cooked and so were the crab legs but for someone who was starved and rarely goes out cause I'm chronically ill, I was happy to have mustered the energy to enjoy a night out with my fiancé. We also ordered the bread pudding with ice cream to go. Needless to say, It came with about 2 tablespoons of ice cream. Who scooped that??!!!? That's the stingiest serving ever. Being a frequent goer when my health was better to the downtown location, this place has a way to go. Plus the floor was extremely slippery. The bartender said it was freezing and she turned off the a/c thus making the floor slippery. I said that's not good because I already slipped and almost fell. Again she also laughed. We were the only ones at a table so the service and food should have been up to par. It sucked. We paid 83.00. It wasn't worth it. My fiancé and I have lived our lives by the coast. When I walked in to this place I told them I wanted a table for two. They said it would be a 45mins to an hour wait, we decided to order at the bar and when we went in I saw they had more than 10 open tables no one was sitting at. I proceeded to order to go at the bar after ordering I was standing at the bar for 10 minutes and no one was still seated at any of the 10 open tables in addition to the other 3 that opened up while waiting. The food was good but would really appreciate more veggies besides two pieces of potatoes and corn when your paying almost $100 just for 2 lbs of food. I only went once to Shell Shack. I was thinking seafood. A nice grilled fish or shrimp. Everything on the menu is fried or swimming in a high calorie sauce. And I really tried to find something that I didn't think would make me feel bloated and give me reflux. It's just not my kind of food. read more

Decided to try this place out on a Saturday night. Got there restaurant is about half full. After being seated we wait 15-20 mins before Maurice our waiter comes and ask for our drinks. We placed our order which was a crab & shrimp boil, when our food gets there its missing the shrimp. I tell Maurice, and he said "honestly I ain't going to lie, I forgot. Do you still want it?" I decided not to get it, I asked for another mi shellada and he brought me the wrong drink. I then asked for a beer and the ticket, after waiting 15 mins neither ever showed up. I just decided to walk to the front to pay. When he comes it turned out he had charged me for the beer he never brought. Food was average, horrible customer service. My wife and 3 kids decided to do a staycation this year. So we decided to have a full week of trying new restaurants, which led us to Shell Shack in Mesquite! None of us has ever eaten crabs before! Shrimp, yes! Crabs, no! So this was a new experience for us. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we had a little bit of a wait. I'm assuming it was because the servers for that shift were in a meeting because they all came out at the same time. It was all good, just wished they'd been a lil more transparent and more efficient in that process. After we were seated our Server, Marquis came an introduced himself. Let me tell ya, this guy is the real deal. Great customer service skills, very attentive, didn't have to try to locate him, friendly to my family, and most of all, consistent! Lol! He made our experience a great one and he will be the reason we frequent there. He even taught us how to crack the crabs ( I'm telling ya, we were green ), how to eat them, etc... Horrible food! Not worth the 88 dollars for wings, 2 salads, 3 drinks and fries! Although the waitress was nice but kept forgetting everything, the experience was terrible. When we got our wings we found some raw ones with full blood in them. After bringing it up the the waitress she told the 2 managers which didn't believe us till they touched and saw it! Sweet tea tasted like pure sugar poured in water. Salads tasted like the buds of the lettuce heads with parmesan cheese. Fries were soggy and old. Out of our party of 6 only one persons food came out as ordered and tasting correctly. I have never been so disappointed and amazed at my experience with Shell Shack. Let me tell you my story. On May 8th my daughter talked me into trying Shell Shack for the 1st time. She had been eating there frequently and knows how much I love seafood and this turned out to be the worst experience of my 53 years of life. She ordered her food ($50 some) and I ordered my food ($78 some). The nice lady on the phone repeated our orders and I was getting excited. My order was a lb. of crab legs naked with garlic butter, lb of shrimp naked with garlic butter, and calamari. My daughter went to the Mesquite location and picked up our food. She came back and they gave her 2 of her orders and not my order at all. I called and spoke to PJ (manager) and he said yes it was there and to come and pick it up. I asked to make sure it was not cold and he stated he was going to make it fresh and for her to come and he would get it right to her. I was pleased with his response. She proceeded to go back to the restaurant and brought my food home. Anticipation was high and when I opened it up everything was spicy. I was so disappointed. I called back and spoke to PJ and he said I ordered it spicy and I did not. I had my receipt. He then stated that I did not even pay for any of the two orders and I stated to him that I did and I was looking at the pending transactions on both of our accounts right then. He continued to say I did not pay and then I asked him why the calamari was spicy for the menu stated it was not and he said it is not spicy and hung up on me. Now I was furious. Being accused of not paying when I did was the most devastating thing I could have ever imagined. I called the corporate number and left a message with their answering service to have someone from the corporate office to call me. I waited about a week and no one called so I called again and left another message. Another week went by and still no call. I call corporate a couple more times and finally got someone on the phone and she took a message for Shelby (Marketing Asst.) to call me. She finally called and stated that she was so sorry that this had happened. She stated that she could send me a $50 dollar gift card or if I wanted my money back she would have to talk to the CEO (Danny) but did not see that he would have a problem with that. I told her that I would rather my money back since I did not plan to ever eat their food again. I also asked her to keep me informed so that I knew the situation was handled. It was not ever about the money to me it was the disrespect that I received from the manager and the fact the food was spicy. So time passed again and I still did not get a call back. Finally in the middle of June I called and asked for the CEO (Danny). Still no call. The next day I called again and asked for him again and was put on hold for a few minutes and Shelby came on the line. She stated to me that Danny did not want to talk to me and that he was not going to give me my money because Shelby offered me a $50 gift card. So I was to either take the $50 or we would just have to part our ways. I stated to just go ahead and send me the gift card and I would give it to someone because I would not be using it myself. I gave her my address and that was how it was left. I have never in 53 years ever had such poor service and be so disrespect by a restaurant. Now for the end of the story. I received the gift card today (06/24/2020) and for some reason decided to check the balance of the card and can you believe the card is for $20. So I hope that nobody else ever goes through what I did with Shell Shack. They are the most disrespectful people I have ever met. I hope this gets to everyone because they do not need to be in business or they definitely need to go to business etiquette and customer service training. read more

I was appalled by the amount of shrimp I got, also the shrimp was small..... I had about 9 shrimp. I'm from Louisiana I can eyeball what a pound of shrimp looks like. Also the shrimp was over-cooked, making it difficult to peel. The sauce was too salty, I felt like I was just eating salt. We also ordered calamari which was good. Ok I've been going to this location for months and I've been very happy with it until very recently. I don't know if managers changed or what happened but the food taste differently and is not as saucy or flavorful as I'm used to. I even go as far as to ask for extra sauce every time to recapture the way it used to taste, and for the large amount of food I order, they always give me a small side cup rather than adding sauce to the bag like they used to do. I stress this every time and it has become frustrating to the point where I'm writing a review hoping someone will see this and change it back. For now I will go back to the Knox Henderson one and see if they do a better job of listening to customer requests, let's hope this isn't a company directive cause I'll probably just start going to boiling crab instead. read more

I just got to eat in shell shack today. I got the one pound boiled shrimp. The sauce is ordinary. I was expecting something more spicy. I got the Cajun sauce. I should have tried the others. The corn is delicious in the sauce, but the shrimp does seem as fresh as I expect. I grew up by the sea so i am extremely picky for seafood.
