I purchased a set of heads from Alan on Ebay. Upon initial startup, the number 3 exhaust valve dropped into the bore and destroyed the entire engine. Let my bad experience serve as a warning to anyone contemplating doing business with this unsavory individual. It proved to be an expensive and regrettable mistake. read more

Shaw City Engine 496 bought on ebay from seller clewwho40 and semperformance5 experienced valve failure and piston destroyed in 30 hrs of operation. They offered to repair the $5000 engine for another $3500, not standing by their product. Found out that their repaired engines just fail again. Aside from the valve failure, the heads were not correctly machined, it had excessive oil consumption, the rear main seal leaked, it did not make claimed power. Don't fall for the low prices, pretty pictures and power claims. Feedback for clewwho40 on ebay is positive. Shaw City Engines does not appear in ebay description or receipt. I only discovered Shaw City Engines name on the packing slip. read more

I purchased a rotating assembley from Alan. Everything was as decribed and priced competively. When comparing internal engine components, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Then have someone who knows what they are doing assemble the engine. Most of the bad reviews here with photographs look to me as the results of improper break in procedures and or/improper tune. read more

Purchased a set of heads from them on ebay seperformance5 . Head was damaged packed inside ups boxes turned inside out. Then sent fedex . Arrived damaged, large chunks of aluminum fell out from the castings. Crap stuck in the valves. They stated on ebay that a full refund is in order, so i shipped them back. They didnt fully refund the money. , now ive got my credit card involved. I left a negitive review, but it was changed somehow. Do not believe there false reviews... read more

scammer on ebay seperformance5 clewho40. I won a Engine on ebay and his shop is 250 miles away from me so I wanted to pick it up. But before I could send him a message he sent me a invoice with $1600 for shipping! When a said I wanted to pick up the engine I took him almost a day to reply and he said "cash on pick ups!!!" Wouldn't remove the shipping from the invoice and wouldn't send me his address. Then as soon as he could he filed unpaid clam with ebay. Sounds like this is his standard practice and after seeing all the reviews on the internet I'm glad that the deal didn't go through. The engine is probably junk. read more

This is a late review but I after a long thought, I decided to put this to help someone make a decision when buying junk. Here is my story: I purchased this 496BBC engine thru an ebay auction in 2017. The shipping charges were extremely high, so I contacted the business and made arraignments with Alan to just pick it up since I live in California. Alan, very much unhappy in life, still charged me a huge "crate fee" and "handling fee" (prob because he didn't get the amount hoped for on the ebay auction at $2300). I wanted the engine so I just decided to pay the price. I picked up my engine at got it all installed into my 1965 Chevelle SS. I was very excited. I broke in the engine as prescribed and changed the oil. I enjoyed the Chevelle for about 100 miles with no issues. I thought wow, this engine rocks, sounds good, and all seemed well at such a low price. Well, that sure came to an end one day when I was driving downtown. I was crusing down main street, when suddenly I hear what sounded like a low end knock. I immediately pulled over and began to check the engine out (oil, coolant, etc). Everything was in check and nothing looked weird (oil good, coolant good, good oil pressure, etc). I fired back up and decided to drive it home. On my drive home, I didn't hear any noise at low RPM (1000 to about 3000), but the noise came back when the engine hit 3100 RPM. I parked the car at my home and it sat for a month. I didn't want to risk damaging the engine any further, so I had it towed to my local mechanic. After listening to the engine, we decided that it was probably a rod knock or crank bearing that had "spun" or gone bad. I took the car home and removed the engine. I took the engine back to him for a deep diagnose. Upon inspection he said "yup we were right, it has a spun crank bearing". He told me "the crankshaft is cheap Chinese garbage and its ruined". It has cheap rods, bolts, cheap everything" "I wouldn't waste my money on this engine as it should be completely rebuilt using quality parts" He asked me where I got the engine, and once I told him he said , "yup you get what you pay for, absolute junk and corners cut". He said the parts were cheap junk and whoever put it together didn't take the necessary time to clean it and assemble it correctly. We both kind of laughed and after a discussion with him, I decided to sell the engine as is. ( I got 1k for it). I ended up just spending the money and got a awesome 572CI that came dynoed with a warranty. Yes it was close to 10k, but its 750HP and runs awesome. I have over 2500 miles on it now and not a problem, still runs like the day I bought it. Of course it does not have any cheap parts, everything is brand name with a backing. So yes a very expensive lesson learned, when you pay such a low price for an engine, many corners are cut and very cheap parts installed to keep his profit high. I hope this helps someone who is considering an engine from this company. read more

If you are reading this then you are local or you found them through their ebay username seperformance5. Under no circumstances do you do business with this company. They are the most dishonest scammers I have ever dealt with. Their business practices are disgusting and their work is the shoddiest I have ever seen. I purchased an engine from them and without going into a long story it literally seized up within 50 miles. As you can guess by the other comments here, they literally told me tough luck. If you think their prices are good enough to gamble remember this, a $3300 engine cost me nearly $7,000 after having a catastrophic failure and having to start all over. Just buy from a respectable business the first time and leave these people alone. You've been warned! read more

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!!!! Before i bought a set of heads from here i talked to them about some concerns i had. They assured my there quality was top notch and they would stand behind there product if anytime was to happen. They flat out lied, once they have you money your on your own. After installing heads had valve stick, contacted them and they tried to blame it on an engine issue. They was no engine issues before or after with the exception of their heads! I fixed head on my dime and put it back together, less than 10 miles and other head stuck a valve!! Tried contacting them again and they refuse to contact me back or give a return address. Reported them to BBB. read more

Please read all the negative reviews and save your money. DONT buy from this joker. After one revolution of the engine it needs a total rebuild. I wont bore you with the details but I never fired my 496 engine up. With one revolution I had full compression in the water jacket. oh yeah and the shipping crate that you'll spend big bucks for is nothing more that a few 2x4s screwed together. mine was broken apart and was sitting on the crank when it arrived. this joker wont even answer his phone. I purchased a rotating assembly from Shaw about 3 years ago to put in my 1970 Corvette, Well as projects sometimes go the engine sat in the corner of my garage for three years. I got the green light to proceed and started obtaining the rest of the parts needed to get this 496 CI BBC ready to run. Upon completion I decided to have it checked out and dynode by a reputable shop in my area. they put the engine on the dyno and ran it for a while then drained the oil and re-torqued the heads and adjusted the valves then ran the engine again on the dyno. I was very pleased with the dyno report. 540 HP and 570 lbs of torque pretty close to what Shaw Engine claimed it should have (570 and 600) So I went ahead and had Superior go ahead and install the motor into my 70 corvette. MY enthusiasm soon faded about 50 miles later. While backing out of my driveway the engine started to back pop thru the carb so I shut it down and contacted Superior they suggested having the car towed to them. They found a push rod guide plate had failed allowing the push rod to move off the rocker they replace the guide plate and down the road I went. 8 miles later it started the same popping again. I once again towed it back to Superior this time they found two more guide plates had failed along with one of the lifters had failed sending pieces of lifter all thru the engine. Upon further inspection they found rockers that were binding the cam shaft was destroyed the cam bearings wasted two different kinds of push rods 1 piece and three piece push rods (looked like it was what ever he had in his shop at the time) So we decided to tear the engine down the rest of the way to see what else might be lurking. Much to my disappointment they didn't find anything to be as Shaw City Engine had claimed. It was a total rip off the only thing that is reusable on the motor is the block and that will only be usable after it is completely re gone through. With the heads removed the pistons were binding in the cylinders it required an 18'' breaker bar to rotate the crank. the rod cap bolts were some cheap knock off and showed signs of failure the main bearings were filed to fit and no longer lined up the way the should the connecting rod bearings showed scuff marks from not fitting properly the engine was never blue printed balanced or line bored. I did however get a real good price on the engine when I purchased it. I should of just burned the $3000.00 I paid for it. You get what you pay for and don't expect much support from Shaw City Motors his reply to me was that high performance motors require adjustment and once I get the bugs out I'll be real happy with this motor. Well it's gonna cost me about $8500.00 to get the bugs out, and that is about what I should of paid for a 600hp big block Chevy.. my bad it's just to bad I had to pay $3000.00 to Shaw City Engines to learn this lesson. Do yourself a favor and avoid my mistake. Don't do business with this crook your gonna get burned. Gordon Runyon 714-341-9231 Feel free to contact me read more

This guy is an absolute crook don't buy anything from this shop. Bought a "ready to run" big block from them. Machine work in the bottom end and heads were garbage, l had to pay another shop to tear the motor down and re machine everything. The heads were supposed to be pro-comp and they were knockoff Japanese reproductions. I tried to get satisfaction from him and he refused even though I documented all of the issues with machetes me work. While you're at it, don't trust eBay or PayPal to have your back, they just jerk you around into oblivion and their call center is in a third world country where they have no idea what you're trying to explain nor the documents you submit for a claim. Shame on EBay and PayPal for getting rich of Americans while farming out all of their operations and pretending to offer payment protection! I'll say it again Alan and Shaw city motors are 2 bit crooks and that's putting it nicely. read more

I usually don't leave reviews but after dealing with this business I felt highly compelled to do so. I recently purchased a set of their SBF aluminum heads for my Ford Mustang from these guys. They claimed Australian made. Took them to my local machine shop for inspection before install only to find out they are knock offs from China. Not only was I sold misrepresented parts I was also raped on the shipping and charged taxes for an out of state purchase. Alan the owner is a total douchebag and a crook. I can't believe this guy is still allowed to rip people off like this. I wish I had did my research on this maggot before doing business with him. Read his ebay feedback member clewwho40 and you'll find similar experiences as mine. Buyer beware! read more

I won a bid for a 532 ci stroker motor from alan. I was happy to get it for$905.00. Then i get an invoice for $2800. Thats a huge charge for crating and insurance. After i fianally got him to call me.. he said that he couldnt sell it to me for that much. Whats the point on bidding on something if you dont get it for that price? Total let down and a scam. Then he told me he would sell me the same motor minus the heads for $ 2200. And then he blocked me from bidding on his junk and filed an unpaid invoice case on me with ebay. Stay as far away from this crook as you can. read more

I bought a 496 block and rotating assembly from Shaw City in 2002. This engine has given me absolutely ZERO problems since I put it in. Not sure where to start but here we go about this SCAMMER! On July 17, 2018, I won an E-Bay auction for a set of the Pro-Comp cylinder heads for a Big Block Ford (460) engine from this SCAMMER/CROOK/THIEF. The winning auction price was $381.67 for a pair of complete heads plus $129.30 in shipping. (GREAT DEAL right) Now Alan Paolercio originally was calling himself on E-Bay Clewwho40 and has now changed it to Seperformance 5 and now I know why! Upon winning the auction I received an invoice just a couple hours after the auction closed. I was ready to pay but Alan had the shipping amount wrong. it was originally $129.30 and the invoice was now showing $429.30. Giving him the benefit of the doubt and human error I contacted Alan via e-mail thru ebay and asked him to correct this error so I could pay right away. I received a response from Alan stating he was on vacation and would fix it on Monday 07-23-18. While I was waiting on him to return from vacation and correct his error I was getting hounded by ebay to finish my deal or they would charge me with an unpaid item charge. So i waited until that Monday morning and sent Alan a follow-up email reminding him to correct this shipping error--no response. I did try going into paypal and issuing the correct amount but was blocked from doing so because Alan had already issued an invoice. I waited until 1700 hrs (5:00pm) that night and when I didn't hear from Alan I called ebay customer assistance. The gentleman named Mark was able to see the whole transaction and the invoice error as well as our communication. Mark reminded me that under the sellers agreement we agree when selling not to sell items while were on vacation. This made no difference! Mark tried calling Alan and sent him an email, no response. The next day Alan closed the unpaid item claim and cancelled our transaction! I called ebay and they said they are working on it. So needing a set of heads I decided to bid on another set he had up for auction only to find now that Alan blocked me from purchasing from him! Upon reviewing this with ebay they did determine that I communicated with Alan in a business manner and did nothing wrong! The problem IS WITH ALAN! He is a SCAM Artist and knows how to work the ebay system to his advantage! All hope is not lost because what goes around comes back around to haunt ya! I know as a fact Alan has been in trouble with his business with Consumers at his Machine Shop with inferior parts sales as well as inferior machine work. Out of 100 engines he builds maybe 10 work fine as advertised! He manages to blow people off who don't either know how to file a complaint or just write it off as a bad deal! Alan changed his online ebay name to try and start over and advertise a high satisfaction rate with being a power seller! Oh yea he really power reams his customers and doesn't care about Honesty and Intergrity! Just how he can make or steal a buck today and not care about tomorrow! Hmmm sounds like an addict! Ive been a seller and buyer on ebay as long as this individual and pround to have 100% satisfaction rate and I do that by taking care of my customers! Beware of this SCAMMER/CROOK/THIEF Signed: HF read more

purchased assembled 496 long block from alan at shaw city motors on ebay, complete misrepresentation of ad, dose not honor his poor quality work purchased 496 bbc from shaw city motors on ebay, item number 231732046281 on 11/2/15 shipping misrepresented on ebay ad called alan and was told shipping was 700.00! demanded cash only if i picked up which i did (essentially extortion), charged 150.00 for thrown together crate that probably cost 20.00 rolled it over to put the pan on and the first red flag was the gouges in the bottom of the cylinders where the die grinder he used to relieve the bottom of the cylinders got away from him, not once but 4 times!!, causing gouges in finished bore second, i went to rotate the motor and it was tight to the point of almost being locked up, which led me to look further after pulling the pistons out number 7& 8 were almost locked up rotationally due to almost no thrust clearance in the crank .0096 !, rod side clearance on 7&8 was .0012 !! third the bottom of # 6 cylinder there is a crack looking further all the lifters were tight in the bores 5 were .ooo42 tenths not thousands !! fourth pulling the cylinder heads off solvent poured out of the water jackets ! 5th the valves are not manley as stated in his ad (false advertisement/fraud) 6th (and i realize this may have been done by pro comp) the seats were pressed in cold causing galling and are not seated square in the counter bore also leaving chips exposed and ready to fall into the bore, along with the guide bores being completely non concentric, any competent machinist would have caught this and corrected it before assembly, it shows he does not care or take pride in his work 7th the springs are incorrect and not a dual spring as stated in his ad they are a single spring with a damper, the installed heights are all over the map & the springs have no locaters, the on the seat pressure is 5 lbs under the minimum required for the cam (verified by elgin) and again not a dual spring 8th the rod & main clearances are no where near the advertised .002 the tightest was .0012 !! 9th the timing chain bolts are grade 5, i assume they were bought at the local hardware store i have photo documented all damage and misrepresented parts, and all tolerances and dimensions have been verified on a cmm with a printout (a cmm is accurate to a millionth of an inch) i have attempted contact via telephone and e mail with no response. there are numerous identical complaints online and on ebay seller clewwho 40 i am currently pursuing criminal fraud charges as well as any and all other litigation against this individual that is knowingly and willingly defrauding and deceiving unsuspecting customers. a word of advice do the research before buying read more

We purchased a 496 stroker from these crooks claiming 575 horsepower. Motor barely made 525 horsepower on the dyno. Initially we noticed excessive vibration at various RPMs and bad harmonics during our run cycle with the correct balancer and flexplate recommended by Shaw Engines. Broken guide plates within the first 100 miles. Less than 4000 miles on the motor and it self destructed. Upon tear down we found multiple issues, mis-matched push rods causing rockers to bind up, camshaft bearings wiped out, lots of distinct wear issues on the main bearings and connecting rods. Definitely not balanced and blue printed as they claim. The heads are not even Pro Comp quality, some knock off crap from Hong Kong. Long story short pay $3000 for a 496 stroker and get a 496 stroker thats only gonna last 3000 miles. The reviews on here are accurate stay away from Alan he is a liar and con artist. Looking into starting a class action lawsuit against this place. read more

I purchased a 532BBF from this company. First off I was quoted $600-$700 for freight to Texas. It was $1008 after he tacked on crating and insurance. Recieved the engine and checked it out starting with valve spring pressure. They were to be set at 130 psi closed. The intake was 160 psi and the exhaust were100 psi or less. Removed the heads from the engine to measure everything. The installed height of the intake springs were close at 1.915". The exhaust springs were 2.080. The springs only had a .050 shim under them but no locators at all. I then measured the valve size. The intake was advertised at 2.250 but measured 2.190. The exhaust were as advertised. Now on to the block. The block was advertised as a 532ci when in fact it is a 521ci. There is not an oil filter thread adapter, rear cam plug or cam retainer plate. I'm basically going totally redo the whole thing. The owner said when I contacted that I got a smoking deal and should just have fun with it. The smoking deal turns out not to be such a deal. read more

Purchased a Gen V Chevy 496 big block on ebay, seemed like a good price but the heads were built substandard, and 4 months after receiving engine I found the crankshaft was defective with bolt pattern problem for flywheel. Only 2 of 6 bolts would go in, and one of the holes was .080" off! Alan at Shaw City denied this possibility, and told me to grind out flywheel holes to make fit which I refused to do. After a bunch of communication (they do get back to you) he said if I (at my expense) sent the crank back to him, he would replace it. I asked to just cut flywheel hub off and send it to save shipping and Alan said they would put that crank in another engine (which I couldn't let happen). Bearing clearances were good in engine, engine was clean, block and everything looked machined well. Different parts used than described in auction, and ultimately since I didn't fully inspect the engine I had no recourse through ebay or paypal (paypal basically said "it was described as an engine and you got an engine". Bad experience and ultimately Alan expressed that I was wrong, crankshaft was fine, and that his shop could not make mistakes or have defects. After $1500 more invested with the new crank, gaskets, and balancing (and lots of my labor) I have a useable engine. Also the shipping is ridiculous cost. I think Shaw City Engines can do good work, but they do not back their work/products. read more

I purchased an engine from these people. The engine was not what they said it was. It had been O ringed and was an old block that was not decked. It ate a lifter and cam at less than 125 miles.
