My go to is their Açaí bowl and their Peach Cream protein smoothie ... absolutely delicious ! Customer service is always friendly .. I have been coming to this spot for shaved ice for a few years now when it was known as Hang Loose…read moreand I'm really sad to say they've made a lot of changes that are NOT for the better. The good news is, there's still shaved ice on the menu and many more menu options. The bad news is everything else. What once was a cozy and cute shaved ice store with lots of natural light and relaxed energy is now a cold, run of the mill modern coffee/boba shop with none of the charm of its previous storefront. In fact, they've managed to make the space feel even more cramped than before and you really notice it when a few parties come in. They have yet to update any of their old business information (from an online search it appears as if Hang Loose is still in business), but the store now goes by Aviator and their menu includes coffee, boba, and really overpriced lemonade (around $11 for a flavored lemonade). I'm not sure what inspired this change, but at the least the business could try and keep things consistent by updating their web pages. To make things worse there wasn't a clear sign on the storefront when we visited so it's very confusing even trying to find this spot to begin with. The upside of all this is that the shaved ice has remained on the menu and still is reasonably priced for the portion you get. They have all the same syrup flavors from before, as well as toppings (sour spray and Li Hing powder). That has not changed from before and the shaved ice is as tasty as ever. I did not try their coffee or any of the other menu items during my visit, but I'm not particularly opposed. While some of it looks good, there are some menu items that seem very overpriced and if anything the real negative of this shop just comes from the experience. You order on a tablet, the service isn't particularly spectacular or friendly. They hand you your items without utensils and don't make an effort to even tell you where the utensils are. They ended up being by the front door but since 2 other parties came in after we ordered, the view of them was blocked and they were difficult to reach in the tight space. I'm not sure what they could do to breathe some life back into this business, but the energy of the spot is less welcoming and less comfortable overall. I'm sure their new menu items might be really good, but I'm not running to come back there unless I'm really craving some shaved ice. If I want coffee or boba I know spots that are WAY more comfortable. I'm hoping they can make steps to improve their business as they go down this new direction.

I've had their gelatos before, and they have very unique flavors (unfortunately the candle smoked and salty egg yolk is not my favorite because it only tastes smoky to me, but some people really love it so I think you should try it if you have the chance). We went on a hot Saturday mid-day, and lots of other people had the same idea, so we had to wait a little bit for a table. They give you a beeper so you can come back once a table is ready. This time, we ordered the mango sticky rice shaved ice, and it was so good my husband and I were mind-blown. It's fun to eat because you get multiple components on one tray, and you can continually go between eating the mango sticky rice and the shaved ice with mango gelato, mango chunks, and coconut cream. Every part of it was so yummy and refreshing, it didn't feel too difficult to share and finish between two people. They hide mango chunks inside the middle of the shaved ice too, so it's not solely a bowl of ice when you get to the bottom. I will go back again just for the mango sticky rice shaved ice because it is so unique and delicious, but when mango season is over, they stop selling it.

My friend and I had just done a small hike not too far at Griffith Park and needed something cooling and refreshing. Thankfully, Yoga-urt came to mind and definitely did not disappoint! Despite there being a line when we arrived, it moved quickly. While we waited, we were given some samples to try, which helped us decide what to order. They have a few rotating flavors each day and they all sounded so enticing! You definitely can't go wrong with whatever you order! I love how they make everything in house, it's all vegan and made mostly from cashews! I ended up getting a mini size as it seemed like the portion was just the right amount as I wasn't super hungry. I got the peanut butter prana and brownies as a topping. They were very generous with the amount of brownie pieces they put in. The frozen yogurt was very smooth and creamy, yet still felt very light. I liked how it wasn't overly sweet and I could really taste the peanut butter flavor. The brownies had a lovely soft gooey texture and the chocolate really enhanced the peanut butter taste. We dined in outside and they have two lovely picturesque patios both in front and in the back. The ambiance is very relaxing and quaint. The store itself had a fun vibe and was bright and fresh. It was also very clean inside. They have refrigerators if you want to take any ice cream pie slices or pints to go. Parking was super easy as we scored a spot right in front. I will definitely return again soon, especially with the weather being as hot as it's been!

I always wanted to try boba, and this place set the bar so high. My go-to order is the coffee milk tea with boba (a perfect combo of coffee and milk tea), and it's genuinely one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted in my entire existence. I also love their Thai tea--that gorgeous fluorescent orange color that looks unreal, but is actually all natural from plant leaves. So good, so smooth, and completely addictive. And don't even get me started on the desserts. Their ube bread pudding tastes like chocolate cake and comes with ube ice cream. I later found out ube comes from a root vegetable, which somehow makes this mind-blowingly delicious dessert feel almost healthy... my mind is still blown. The menu is massive with hundreds of items, and I honestly want to try everything. On top of the incredible food and drinks, the employees are so kind, friendly, and welcoming. You can tell it's family-owned and operated, and that they put so much pride, love, and care into everything they make. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing with TVs, tables, and a vibe that just makes you feel happy to be there. Bonus points for being pet-friendly--my dogs love coming here because they always get little cups of whipped cream, which they might love even more than I love the boba. Café 86 is a total must-visit. I'll be back again and again.

When you come in, there is a sign that tells you to order before being seated. My sister and her bf had yet to arrive so I placed a sizeable order for the 4 of us. Luckily, they were there (waiting in the car) so I told them to walk over so we can be seated. I ordered 2 orders of chiayi chicken (1with white rice and 1 with brown rice), 2 orders of thousand layer pancake (1 with egg and 1 with egg and cheese), shrimp wonton, dance dan noodles, wonton noodle soup, hakka mochi and forbidden rice pudding. For drinks we had a few of the shaken iced green teas and 1 taro milk tea (my sister said it didnt taste like taro) Everything was great. I was surprised my sister's bf liked the food. The chiayi chicken was good with a bit of the chili sauce (sambal). The thousand layer pancake was good if you dip it in the black vinegar (mixed with chili oil and a little soy sauce). The shrimp wonton were surprisingly light and tasty. The dan dan noodles was balanced my medium thin sliced cucumber. Everything was portioned very small so you can try everything.we didnt get additional sides because were getting full. The desserts was what I was looking forward to and it did not disappoint. The hakka mochi reminded me of the soy pudding stalls in singapore that had mochi balls filled with a black sesame paste and peanut paste inside. This is what the hakka mochi was but in dry soft chewy form with black sesame and peanut grains to top it off. For my sister, it reminded her of the filipino dessert pichi pichi. The forbidden rice pudding reminded me of a soupy version of the filipino dessert biko. It had chunks of sweet potatoes and tapioca. Also very good but my bias is the hakka mochi. The ambiance was bright, bustling and inviting. Very small tables perfect for a quick bite. Highly recommend if you want a tapas style lunch that doesn't break the bank.
