Unfortunately, my experience with Sharon's Sewing was extremely disappointing. I had to return for (at least) five separate fittings. At my final fitting she casually mentioned that two of her brides had cried that day unhappy with their dresses - not exactly what you want to hear from the seamstress who is handling your bridal alterations. Throughout the many fittings, she seemed rushed and didn't appear to be putting a lot of care or consideration into my alterations. She would notice imperfections from the alterations and then mentioned that others had worked on my dress because she was "training people," which was never communicated to me ahead of time. Had I known my wedding dress was going to passed around the shop carelessly, I would have politely declined and taken my business elsewhere. The alterations reflected this as the quality was extremely poor. The cups were sewn in poorly, the bust and whole top of the dress was too big and each time I returned she never seemed to correct the issue. I would point these things out to her and she would seem stumped as to how to fix my issues. Which was shocking given the amount of experience she has. At my final fitting, I had lost any confidence I had in her work and had no choice but to pay for the alterations and not let her alter the dress any further. Ultimately I had to take my dress to another seamstress who was extremely talented and was able to fix my dress in one weekend. She mentioned that she was shocked by the quality, noting that she saw uneven stitching, excess fabric where there shouldn't have been and just overall poor craftsmanship. Despite charging me for steaming and pressing the dress and veil, my veil was left crumpled at the bottom of my garment bag. I felt this was a perfect example of the amount of care and concern she put into altering my wedding gown. While she did offer a refund, I had to follow up and remind her to send it - and when it finally arrived, it was only for $5, which did absolutely nothing to make up for the inconvenience and additional cost. Given the lack of quality, communication, professionalism, I absolutely could not recommend her services for bridal alterations. Brides please beware! I am heartbroken for you in advance should you choose to bring your wedding gown to Sharon's Sewing. read more

Sharon's Sewing is "sew" great! I needed a bridesmaid dress altered this fall and Sharon was the one I called. She asked what date the wedding was and what I needed done, in this case just some padding removed out of the bridesmaid dress, and a personal dress to be shortened. I was able to get in to see her relatively easily. She was very straightforward and pragmatic and my appointment was quick. My items were turned around in about two weeks. I'd feel comfortable bringing things to her again. Sharon takes cash or credit but there is a discount for cash. The sooner you can bring her an item the better during wedding season. Sharon well known and becomes quite busy during that time. Parking- there's a few parking spots around her building, and some street parking. I had no trouble getting a spot but I was there before the other businesses at the location opened. read more

I recently needed to get some blazer sleeves shortened for an upcoming wedding. I haven't had to have any clothing altered in a long time, so I looked to Yelp for some recommendations. Sharon's Sewing was high rated and probably the closest place to me, so I figured I'd give her a try. I had to run some errands one day and brought the blazer with me. I called while I was out and spoke to Sharon, who said I could stop by any time. I stopped over maybe an hour or so later. It is a small place sharing a building with a State Farm agency on the corner of an off street in Fairmount. I walked in and Sharon was helping a young lady with a prom dress, but stopped for a few minutes to help me out. She quickly measured my sleeves, pinned them, and wrote up a ticket for me and told me it'd be about two weeks. I picked my blazer up yesterday, less than two weeks later by the way, and the length was now perfect. I was concerned because the blazer was expensive, and also a funky printed one I really liked, and I was hoping it wouldn't accidentally get ruined, but she a great job, and having both sleeves shortened was only $27 including tax, so it was definitely affordable. Quick, affordable, well done tailoring. I will return for any other alterations I may need in the future. read more

I've taken 2 bridesmaids dresses here, and wouldn't take them anywhere else. The shop is small and is a bit of a drive, but Sharon and her niece do a nice job for a reasonable price. My husband called in advance to have some jeans tailored. He was told that it was "by appointment only" but he could bring them in at the end of any hour she was open. He did as instructed and when he walked in he was told to "just leave them" but he needed to try them on to show how they had to be altered. Reluctantly they let him try them on and he told them how they needed to be fixed. Later when he went to pick them up, the person (don't know if it was Sharon or the assistant) said "I'm busy eating my lunch" and .he had to wait. What poor customer service! Jeans were not that much different from when he brought them in. We will not return. read more

Brides beware. I NEVER write reviews, however, I felt like I needed to write this one. Bare with me. I had my first experience with Sharon when I came in to have my wedding dress fitted. I was surprised when she led me to the "changing room" when all it was a fold out wall with cracks in it where everyone can see you. While I was changing, I over heard her say to her assistant how annoying the prom girls were and how she just wanted a shirt that said, "just wear it". If that were the case, she would be out of a job. So that left a bad taste in my mouth. After that a bridesmaid comes in distraught after getting her dress back and it not being what she had asked for. I don't know the details, but the bridesmaid was not happy. I soon found out why. It was my turn, I'm standing in front of the mirror, discussing what I would like done, I mention not wanting two pieces of the lace that stuck out, instead of asking me if I was sure, or tucking them in to make sure I was certain, she took scissors to them, right then and there! With little discussion! That was a shock. I'm then pointing out things I would like changed. She was not attentive and barely looked at my dress. I would ask a question and about the way the dress fit and she would just say it was fine. Then I would pull the dress 4 Inches away from my body, only then did she pin it and agree it was too loose. I pointed something else out about how a seam rippled because it was not sewn properly, her response was "yeah, I noticed that". I honestly think if I had not pointed it out, she would have not said anything. When you go to a seamstress with experience, you expect a level of professionalism, advice, suggestions, I received none of that. It was very clear she did not care about how my dress looked on my big day. It seemed like she wanted the appointment over with and do as little as possible. I left feeling very uneasy that I left my wedding dress there. I felt as though she was not concerned or even listened to me. I called a couple days later, when the uneasy feeling would not go away. As nicely as possible I explained to her how I didn't have the best experience and how I felt very rushed. All she said, in a very monotone voice was; "I'm sorry to hear that". I'm all about second chances and as she proceeded to talk, it was not apparent to me that she cared AT ALL about how I was feeling. She did offer to have me come back in, but not in a "let me make it right way" it just seemed as though she was clarifying why I was calling. I told her I would like to come and pick up my dress. I went to pick it up, she never offered to try to make things right, never asked what went wrong, or how she could improve. She gave me my dress and said good luck. I do feel as though she is capable of doing alterations, but if you actually want a good experience and have things throughly explained to you and someone who truly cares about the end result, do not go to her. read more

Just picked up an altered bridesmaid's dress from Sharon's and I was thoroughly impressed. She made it fit perfectly and cut it to the exact length to match my heel height (it's a full length dress) - the whole process was so quick and easy. The turn around time was spot on (with a week to spare - whew!) and the price very reasonable for the order. I took a dress here to get it altered for graduation. I asked to have it taken in about 2 inches on either side. Tanya said she could do it with elastic, and being a college student on a budget I said yes. When I got the dress back, there was almost no discernable difference in the way it fit and a massive strip of poorly sewn elastic across the back. When I called to express my unhappiness and frustration in waiting almost two weeks to get the result I had, Tanya's first response was "I didn't know it was a graduation dress." Apparently, because she didn't think it was a dress for a special occasion, it was not worth her time or effort to even attempt to make it look acceptable. I even said it was for my graduation when I first brought the dress in. When I asked for a refund, I was told I needed to drive back 20 minutes to the store to get it. I received no apology or refund and now I have to take my dress elsewhere to fix Tanya's botched attempt at sewing. UPDATE: Sharon herself called me and was very kind and helpful to me on the phone. Though my dress is a lost cause, her customer service was appreciated. read more

I do not have any experience with any other tailors than "Sharon's Sewing" so I am speaking from a place of little experience, but what I can say is that I have had several pairs of pants tailored and a very expensive blazer done their by a "Tonya" and I have to say she has done tremendous work. I doubt I will ever have to take my clothes anywhere else, and I have since recommended the place to my wife who is planning on setting up a fitting appointment soon for several dresses. read more
