Shark tooth island behind us

Such a fun place to kayak to and look for sharks teeth! You can park at River Road Park (6500 River Rd. Wilmington, NC 28412) They have plenty of spots but there was a lot of cars because a few Kayak/tour companies meet at this location. It was super easy to drop the kayaks near the launch then park. Shark tooth Island is not far to paddle to and Keg Island is also another close island to look for sharks teeth. We found a lot of teeth and met a lot of people in the search. Always have a life vest and paddle with friends! And check the tides - low tide is the best time to go here!

This is such a cool island! There are hundreds of sharks teeth on the island. They are everywhere. There is ample sand and beach. There is a really cool place to camp in a hammock. One of my favorite finds lately.

I wish I could give it 100 stars. My husband and I booked the Black River/Three Sister's adventure…read more It was amazing!! From start to finish we were in awe of how beautiful it was. Our guide Don was the best. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. You couldn't ask for a better time. You won't be disappointed.

Decided to give Mahanaim Adventures a try after finding a Groupon for a "Sunset Kayaking Trip with…read morea Picnic Dinner for Two." Similar to other kayak tours I've done, we were fitted with PFDs and given a basic tutorial on how to paddle/ maneuver in the kayaks. The owner/guide Don was very knowledgable and did a great job making sure that the group moved together and that we were safe at all times. After kayaking around the river we stopped off for a picnic dinner on Shark Tooth Island. It was fun hunting for fossilized shark teeth and other shells. My two criticisms of the tour were: 1) There wasn't much to see. We kayaked a little way down the river and then turned down a grassy side channel. Besides a couple of herons in trees and some alligator tracks there was not much scenery and it became boring after a little while. 2) The food options for dinner were a little underwhelming. They had some store bought sandwich thins/wraps and deli cold cuts for dinner. Without the Groupon the price of the 3 hour tour is $150/per person. I didn't feel that this tour was much of an "adventure" and the food definitely left something to be desired.
