Went to observed my 6yr old grandson go through his testing to advance to next color belt for the very first time, never being exposed to what is "Kung Fu". I observed several groups of students going through their group as well as individual skills test. It took well over two hours to complete but even the very young students were well behaved and as attentive as they could, given their age. I was very impressed with how patient and compassionate the instructor was during testing, encouraging those that hesitated when they got stuck in the middle of their complicated routine with a gentle reminder of the next step. I was also impressed that instructions were given in Mandarin as well as in English which helps reinforce my grandson's language skills being half Chinese and being in a Chinese immersion class in elementary school. Not only are the students learning kung fu skills but also; discipline, memory skills, gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and learning to listen & follow directions, which enables children to develop fully. We were looking for a martial arts discipline for our kids that wasn't just about keeping them busy, breaking boards, or meaningless belts. The Shaolin Temple Cultural Center offers much more than that. Our son and daughter started just shy of two years ago at the ages of four and six. We thought, perhaps, that they would be too young for something so disciplined and with such complex movements. They're both very rambunctious and full of energy, but the Shi-Fus (masters) have a way of teaching to get them in line, to learn, and to build confidence. We were amazed at how much they absorbed in such little time. At first, we were worried about the language barrier because none of us speak or understand Chinese. It was a bit of a problem in the beginning, but now, they can pick up words and phrases here and there and know all of their moves in Chinese. When new and prospective parents come to observe the classes, they're always amazed at how short of a time our kids have been practicing Shaolin Kung Fu. They perform as though they've been doing this for a very long time. You can go twice or three times a week for an hour, and it's engaging every session. They also sponsor other activities with the cultural center community at large, and hosts fun events and competitions. We wholeheartedly recommend parents introduce their kids to Shaolin Kung Fu if they're looking to get involved in martial arts. This is an authentic Kung fu place opened by Shaolin temple from China, Shi fu(master) is great, he just came from Shaolin temple China who is the 34th generation warrior monk, so what he is teaching is the real deal, although he does not speak good English, but he still can communicate with people, and best of all, this place never push u to join and have fixed monthly price for everyone, unlike other places we have been to, they pushed u to join their membership and gave u many different prices if u didn't want to join at first place. read more

I've been practicing various meditation styles and have trained in a variety of martial arts for over 20 years and it is refreshing to find shaolin monks direct from the shaolin temple teaching traditional shaolin kung fu! Everyone has been very welcoming and I can feel the respect, honor and traditions of this community! Definitely worth checking out...life changer!!! One thing to note for new comers. You may feel a little lost because of communication. Our wonderful Shifu speaks broken English...but what do you expect since we are learning traditional shaolin kung fu from monks from the shaolin temple.
