This Shake Shack tends to be solidly packed and riotous, which makes it difficult to find a table. The servers do their best to keep things clean, but it's difficult when table-space is limited and in high demand -- people will scoop a table as soon as it's vacated, and don't mind a few water drops or a stray fry. One of the first times I was here, my visiting hockey team had lost to the Islanders in a really one-sided defeat, and we were having pity-burgers late at night, as people filtered out and business slowed down. A server by the name of De'Andre came by to check on us, and on hearing of our short-term misery, brought by full-sized custard cups to perk up our night. your standard shake shack. everything tastes exactly like you want it to (hot and delicious). i tried the roadside burger here which is a cheeseburger topped with bacon caramelized onions, but it was a lot sweeter than expected, so word of caution on that. brooklyn pie o' mys are also available here - a cup o' vanilla custard that has a slice of seasonal pie smashed into it from four and twenty blackbirds. we had the peach one, and it wasn't that great - no peach to be found honestly. just crust, which is okay, but it's peach season ! i went to the farmers market yesterday to get my peach fix instead, and now all is right in the world again (phew!). read more

On this lovely snow day in Brooklyn, after a walk through Prospect Park watching all the sledders and snowman makers, I decided to treat myself to a tasty burger and beer at Shake Shack across from the Barclay's Center. I was glad to see they were indeed open and the staff was extremely courteous and happy that they had customers on a day when most of the city was shut down. I ordered the basic single Shackburger (cheeseburger topped with "sauce", lettuce and tomato) along with a draft Shackmeister beer (the brew made specifically for Shake Shack by Brooklyn Brewery). Having recently allowed myself to eat at Shake Shack after many years of personal boycott, I am proud to say that I am now a believer. The years ago trial, when they only had two outposts - not the many they have now - I had to wait in a line that was at least 20-30 mins long on the upper west side - I remember finally getting my food after hearing people rave about it being "the best burger in NYC" and feeling extremely disappointed. And after all the effort to trek up there (being from Brooklyn) and wait and then get something mediocre, I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. Now, I get it. Perhaps my first time way back when they hadn't perfected things yet? Or perhaps I was just there on an off night. In any case, that feeling is history. The meat is salty and the burger cooked fresh to order. and actually looks like a burger you really want to bite into The beer, of course only something you can get at a SS location, is a perfect light compliment to this satisfying, juicy burger. I have never dared try a custard or a shake (though they are famous for them) since I am usually so darn full after a burger that it would be overkill. This is the In-N-Out of New York, right? For that reason, I'm glad we tried it. Like In-N-Out, though, I feel it's a bit overrated. That said, though, everything was decent as compared to In-N-Out's pretty good hamburgers, but terrible fries. I'll stop with this comparison now, but being someone that lives with a local chain that is actually great, I find these local chains kind of fascinating. I've eaten here twice now since I've been in town. The first time intentionally; the second by default. I've had a shake (not great, but maybe a different flavor would be), hamburgers (very solid), hot dog (not very good at all, actually), and fries (surprisingly good after seeing them and expecting less). This is something you always hear about, Shake Shack, from people who have traveled to NYC and have stood in line for ages at the Midtown location. But here's the thing: yeahhhhh, no. I've only been here a few months but that's long enough to roll my eyes at the idea of standing in line outdoors in the summer just so I can say I went to THAT Shake Shack. Instead I hopped on the train to our lovely, enormous, air-conditioned Shake Shack on Flatbush Ave., with shorter lines (if you doubt me, this was the day the chicken sandwich came out, and they were packed, but we were still only in line for a few minutes) and tables to eat at. Burger was legit. (this is my new word for anything that passes the test. why is that? is that a thing people are saying and I just haven't noticed?) I don't think I would want to eat it if it had sat any longer, though, because the buns are soft and would go soggy pretty quick. But fresh, it was gooood. The shake was also delicious. Fries were okay, nothing mind-blowing, but the real star of the show was the new chicken sandwich. Yikes, it's good. Sorry if you haven't been able to get one yet. It's worth it. Definitely a place I'll be going back to--there are more chicken sandwiches to eat and more shake flavors to try. read more

This time I got the Shack Stack and cheese fries based on friendly staff recommendations. And WOW. I know everyone always compares Shake Shack to In-n-Out. But the two are truly just very different. The Shack Burger doesn't compare to In-n-Out's burgers, but the Shack Stack truly brings in a different component with their take on a Juicy Lucy fried portobello mushroom to top off the burger. Loved that you can order a beer that you can drink while you wait in line, and always always always get extra cheese sauce for your fries! read more

I used to be a fan of Shake Shack. I still think they make good quality burgers. But my last experience made me swear off it forever. I live around the corner so I went pretty regularly, maybe once a week on average. I wanted to avoid the line so I ordered off the app. I probably used it about 5 times and more often that not, I'd have an annoying experience. It's so hard to get anyone's attention when you're trying to pick up your order. I see that it's busy and I don't want to be rude by shoving my phone in their face. And that's the problem. None of the employees are looking for app pickups. It's pretty obvious that the employees are not being trained or managed to deal with app orders. The last time was the last straw. I showed up on time and it was busy, I get that. I asked someone about it. They will check. Nothing. I asked again. Nothing. I ended up having to ask 3 different people about my order status. I waited more than half an hour, probably closer to 45 min, after the scheduled ready time. I ordered on the app so that I DON'T have to wait.... And it turned out that my order was sitting on the shelf the ENTIRE TIME. My food was not warm at that point. All I can say is, WHAT THE F***. Seriously, never getting Shake Shack ever again. Been here once due a suggestion from my friend. I had to take a train ride there and it was totally worth it ! The only thing that was disappointing were the lines as you walk in which took 5-10 minutes. The food is also pretty expensive in my opinion but it sure does serve the quality you pay for. The burger was delightful as you can literally taste the juice rushing out of the burger as you bite into it. The fries gives a whole new meaning of "awesomeness" to your taste buds with the melted cheese on top. The food really is as good as the pictures. The crowds are justified. Everywhere you go, there is usually a line outside the door when it comes to Shake Shack, and for some reason it's worth it. That reason is due to the delectable delights that are offered. I recently devoured a smokehouse chicken sandwich and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. I've been SS's multiple times but never have I eaten a chicken sandwich. One word BOMB!!! My wife and I had the shack burger which was really really delicious. My issue is the fact that you couldn't pick your own toppings. A lot of the times this makes or breaks a burger. Outside of that the patties were juicy and it tasted great along with the fries that were pretty good. A step above Burger King fries but that's about it and needs more salt. What was super good was the black and white milk shake I had, sooooooo good!! Slightly too think could barley get it up the straw but the taste made it worth it. All in all it was really good just kinda pricey for it all and this location is much better than the one on Fulton. read more
