Let me rephrase: i ordered takeout and wanted to love this place, but when i got there my order was not ready, the cashier was dismissive, the place is not exactly appetizing or appealing, I couldn't find the "food grade" posted anywhere, and i had to wait FOREVER for what seemed like an easy order (Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan - they don't include rice fyi unless you order it)... so I wanted to hate this place. Been coming here for years. They have gotten better as time goes by. They are better than BBQ Nite. BBQ Nite has chicken dishes that all taste the same. Here the Karachi Chicken is excellent. Probably the best Karahi Chicken of any halal restaurant in the area. Biryani is excellent as well! However...only one problem....it has happened to us 3 times, they have forgotten to give us one item when ordering take out! We went in the restaurant to purchase kashmiri chai and mithai. I had my elderly mother with me who has a hard time walking and standing, so we sat at a table. The waitress told us it's a reserved table, that was the only table left in the restaurant and no one else was waiting to sit. I told the waitress that we're only going to sit for about five mins to drink chai and take the mithai with us, she rudely replied, "If you're only getting chai, I don't have a table for you, purchase it and go sit in your car to drink it." Apparently, the "reserved" table would've been ours had we ordered food and spend over 30 mins sitting but not for small purchases. We left without purchasing anything. We have even coming here for years for take out and have never been disappointed. However, Don't know what happened here but there seems to be new owners. They are very disorganized and constantly have forgotten items in our take out orders. The new owners are polite and apologetic so it helps reduce the feelings of frustration. Eating at this Hicksville Pakistani/ Indian spot was a comedy of errors. Went to the counter and placed our order, grabbed a seat and waited to be served. That's when things went from bad to worse to hilarious. Ordered samosas which came out and were ok. Next up, we ordered chaplee kebob and we were brought seekh kebobs instead. Delicious, but not what we ordered. Then came a huge plate of chicken biryani that we didn't order followed by garlic and onion naan even though we ordered plain naan. I explained to the lady bringing our food that we didn't order any of this and she didn't seem to care. "I didn't take your order" she sternly said as she walked away. Two things we ordered finally came out, chicken makhan wala which was out of this world delicious and a lazy, bland daal that was served cold. Finally, the chaplee kebobs came out along with another order of onion naan (that we didn't f---ing ask for!). The chaplee was good. All in all, everything except the daal was very good. However, service, is why I can't rate this higher. Absent minded and huffy. Luckily, the bill came out to less than what I thought it would. They gave us cold....never even heated it up palak paneer and chicken biryani. We ordered chicken tikka masala....they gave us dry chicken kebabs. The palak paneer was floating in oil. Will give this restaurant 3 stars. Although it is located in the heart of Jackson Heights, it is mostly a hangout for guys, barely any females to be seen or to feel comfortable coming in. They do have TV's, and it is set on Indian channels. The service was good, and the atmosphere is not the best but lower than average. The food did not take long to come, and before our order of food, they provided us with a mini salad and some type of Tahini sauce. The food i can tell was not made fresh, but was rather heated up, which gave me a dis satisfactory feeling. The food is cheap however, if your in a rush or want to try some cheap food that can fill you up, then this would be the spot to go. They have really stepped up their game with their decor but their food has always stayed the same. And let me tell you they have the best Indian/Pakistani food ever. They have the worst service ever! No one takes your order correctly. I ordered some kabab rolls to go over the phone they told me 15-20 mins I said ok I got there about 25 mins later I asked for my food they said they didn't know what I was talking about. So I was like it's ok maybe they were busy and forgot. I'm a nice person so I ordered it again they told me to wait 15 mins I said ok so I went to the place next door to check out cloths. Went back to Shaheen after 20 mins they still didn't have my order ready! So I asked again how long they said 40-50 mins because they didn't have any bread left!!!!! I have never been so mad before. They told me someone ordered a lot of bread so they gave it all to them. So they had to make more dough!! And this wasn't the first time either they always ruin my order. Last summer, some friends of ours who eat here almost on a weekly basis took us here saying it was the best Halal on Long Island. They did all the ordering, so I have no idea what we ate, but it was all delicious. Ever since then, I've been dying to go back and eat there again. Finally, last night we went in for some take out. We ordered the chicken biryani, the chicken boti karara, and the keema naan. Everything smelled amazing and we were so excited to eat it. When we got back to my house and dug in, the biryani was ICE COLD. Not lukewarm from the drive (which was only 20 minutes anyway). It had never been heated, just scooped out of the tray and put into a container. Everything else was warm, but the rice had to be heated on the stove before we could eat it. That was the only reason I did not give the meal five stars. Price was great, portions were huge, and everything tasted great (once it was hot). read more

Amazing tandoor food. Always stick with the naan kebab and any tandoori dishes. I don't usually get other dishes from here but on Sunday's they have their out of this world puri and cholay. Place isn't the most amazing looking but it def is some of the best food I ever had. read more
