BE AWARE!
As a resident of Little Venice for more than 30 years, I always try to shop locally to favour local businesses. However,I had a very nasty surprise with Sew and am writing this review like that others do not fall victim of their poor services.
I brought a brand new pair of Joseph trousers (£200) to have the length shortened at Sew. When I went to pick it up, to my horror, I discovered that the bottom of the trousers was severely damaged. The employee who was working that day was also very shocked at the work that had been done. I quote: "the hem on both legs is damaged and the right leg is ¼ inch shorter than the left leg". She apologised on behalf of the company and arranged a meeting the next day with the manager to discuss compensation and to try to fix the damage done (even though she agreed with me that it was beyond repair).
The next day, I spoke with the manager who quite frankly was very rude. He explained that because of their disclaimer they were not responsible for the damages and could only try to repair the trousers (by cutting all the damaged material off and making the trousers shorter - how ridiculous!). He did not recognise the poor quality of the work and blamed the material of the trousers as the cause of the damage. However, by law the company must warn the customer if the material of a garment is difficult to work with in order for the person to make an informed decision on whether they are willing to take the risk of having their property damaged. In this case, I was not made aware of the possibility of having my trousers damaged as a result of its composition (100% "Super 100" Wool).
At this moment in time I am still waiting to hear back from their head office to see what can be done. Interesting fact: they have not even proposed to reimburse the cost of the alterations!
