I had heard quite a bit about Z Carinceria - especially about the old one which was a butcher shop…read moreetc. I missed out on going to the older address so when they relocated to a bigger space, I decided that I need to try it out. Z Carniceria has garnered a lot of buzz since it reopened - now owned by Grupo Vegas, they had a refined food and drinks menu curated by bartender Kennedy Nascimento (voted best bartender in the country) etc. - so with all this buzz we did have exceptions. We got in there on a Wednesday night (they have live shows Thu/Fri/Sat) and the place was relatively empty - decided to sit at the bar but the bar stools were so uncomfortable that we had to switch to a table. The drinks made are just ok - low on the alcohol content and catered towards people who want something lighter - I tried a Blood & Sand and a Daiquiri - both were average and nothing to write home about. On the food front, we did try a few snacks - the tiny chicken wings (Tulipa de Frango), boar sausage (Linguiça de Javali) & grilled octopus (Polvo Grelhado) were all quite well made but the portions are really small - sharing for more than 2 doesn't quite work. I also tried their pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw (Chancho) - the sandwich is well made, the bread is really fresh but once again the portion is small : maybe I was extra hungry but I did find the portion to be small. Z Carniceria needs to work a lot more to deliver on the buzz & expectation generated - maybe I had too high expectations or did not go a day they had live shows and the result was a 3-star experience but for the price/ambience/food/drinks, São Paulo offers better options.

Somewhere on a dimly-lit street is a door that opens into this wonderful cocktail bar. This bar had…read morealways been highly recommended by my 2 contain-experts - Fabio S. & Rodrigo R. - so when Yelp organised a cocktail night there, I was game for it and oh boy ! the place doesn't disappoint when it comes to the quality of cocktails and the price they charge for it - when it comes to cocktails São Paulo has a lot of of varying qualities - Boca excels at what they serve and for the price they charge for it. The drinks at Boca are well prepared, with good quality alcohol (not top shelf but quite good) - they have a good classic cocktail list but what stands out is this drink called "macunaima" served in small glass, costing R$ 8.00, made with a mix of Brazilian Cachaça, Fernet-Branca liquor & Lime - its a great drink and certainly one of the fastest ways to tipsy land...lol ! The other classics at Boca like Negroni, Martini, Manhattan etc are all worth a try. Most of these drinks are in the R$ 21.00 - R$ 24.00 price range and, once again, very well made. The ambient at Boca is very laid back - they have 3 people at the bar (2 of them are co-owners) and a decently functioning kitchen for the snacks - they are apparently very popular for their Bulova (haven't tired it) but whatever other snacks I have eaten, from the very balanced spicy 'acelga', to the sweet potato fries and the crispy pork rinds - it all works very well, and once again, good value for money. The place is quite busy, they have 2 floors, with a free pool table on the top floor - the service is okay but the decor and charm of the place really make it once of the best places in São Paulo for cocktails...it's not there at the level of Frank Bar but its certainly among my top 5 places to get a drink. There are definitely going to be several more visits to Boca de Ouro !

The vibe was pretty cool and they had a pretty solid selection of beers and drinks. The beers were on average between 14 and 30 Reais per glass, from what my fuzzy memory remembers, so it's not recommended for the budget partier. I will definitely go back again, but I will make sure to pre-game first!
