Best campgrounds along Lillooet Lake…read more Not far from Pemberton, along the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road lies a lot of gems, including Lizzie Bay Campgrounds. Just 15km in from the Highway along moderately decent dirt roads. Accessible without 4wd; just note, regardless of what you are driving, it is an active forest road and forestry vehicles have the right of way. Quiet and forested, all the sites are lakeside. Lillooet Lake is beautiful glaciated waters of the most brilliant jade green. No garbage bins, or water supply, or dumping for RVs. You should carry your own supply of water for drinking. Wash water and cooking water can be obtained from the lake; boiling is recommended. You will also need to follow all good camping practices including carrying out anything you carried in. Be bear aware and respect nature. Fires need to be kept within the fire rings and it is suggested you bring firewood in rather than stripping bare the undergrowth and deadfall around the area. You will not find a better campsite in miles (kilometres). Consider yourself blessed to be in such beautiful and remote wilderness, even though you are merely 3 hours from Vancouver. While in the area visit the hot springs at St Agnes Well ( http://www.yelp.ca/biz/skookumchuck-hot-springs-st-agnes-well-mt-currie#hrid:0KPVGM0kvH2GiNSptDERrQ ), or the old "Skookumchuk Church" at Skatin, visit some old graveyards, or hike the roads and trails. Flawless Joffre Lakes Provincial Park! Recommended to me by…read morefriendly hikers I met at Glacier National Park of Canada and again bumping into them while at Mount Revelstoke NP. JOFFRE LAKES = BEST ACTIVITY I did on my 2023 journey throughout Canada! To access Joffre Lakes Park, you must make a reservation online at least 2 days prior to your visit. The website is - bcparks.ca. And conveniently, when I pulled up Joffre Lakes on Google Maps, I was immediately directed to the website with zero hassles in booking a pass for the day. Booking a reservation starts at 7am - Pacific Time. Surprisingly, I had my choice of a Thursday or Friday at the end of June. I couldn't believe there were available passes for both days in peak summertime. Usually when a landmark destination now has to be limited to a certain number of visitors per day (think Zion, Yosemite and Glacier NP's) that usually means the popularity of the park is so great that passes sell out the moment they're available! So, when I logged onto bcparks.ca at 7am, there were passes to be had and it's absolutely free to book! There are 3 lakes to explore at Joffre. They are the Lower, Middle and Upper Lakes. After passing through the Ranger Station at 8am and displaying my day pass - QR Code, I immediately approached Lower Joffre Lake within 5 minutes. For morning time, the lake had a glowing reflection with a light yellow, green and gold coloring to the water. It wasn't turquoise blue, but the Middle and Upper Lakes are pristine blue!! Now here's where the hiking and elevation come into play. For the Middle and Upper Lakes, you will be climbing hard for almost 3 - 4 kilometers. And that should take 2 - 2.5 hours in first arriving at Middle Lake. Middle Lake was gorgeous. It is the prized centerfold piece to Joffre! It took my breath away! It was peaceful and colorfully blue. I had this out of body moment where I felt like I was running around with my head cut off trying to photograph the best aspects of it! Simply put, I was in awe! There's a clearing of trees and bushes beside the middle part of Middle Joffre Lake. Everyone who was hiking was now sitting down, eating lunch and enjoying the views. I grabbed as many pics as I optimistically could before hiking 1 more kilometer to Upper Joffre Lake. On the way to Upper Joffre Lake, you pass by a terrific waterfall called Holloway Falls. It's definitely worthy of a photo or video. Holloway Falls gushes down the mountainside without a hindrance. It's a beautiful thing to see in nature. Now finally at Upper Joffre Lake, it is very picturesque with blue reflections illuminating the lake. I will admit, and I don't know why, but Middle Lake was just better and more colorful. Upper Joffre Lake was great, but I was on a natural high from the Middle Lake. There are plenty of giant boulders to sit down on and enjoy the views at Upper Joffre. Again, hikers were resting after the difficult hike to get here. What I did was hike around Upper Joffre Lake because...in morning time, the sun from the trail looked me straight in the face. So, I thought if I could reach the opposite side of the lake, I'd reap the rewards of having the sun at my back and poetically reflecting onto Upper Joffre. For hiking around Upper Joffre, just follow the Campground Pathway around the lake and then the exploring is at your own accord, choose your own adventure and enjoy. Best thing about the Campground Path (which, btw, is 1 kilometer long), is it steers you clear from the hectic crowds and people taking too many selfies and family photos. At the other side of Upper Joffre Lake, I was able to climb on top of the rocks making my way towards a wonderful splashing waterfall off the side of a cliff! The moment certainly reminded me of one of Yosemite's grand waterfalls. I also noticed other adventurous hikers climbing to the "toe" of a glacier far in the distance. Then finally, from this opposite side of Upper Joffre Lake, I was able to grab a panoramic perspective of the entire lake in one snapshot. Only problem was that some clouds set in, and the lake was no longer colorful. Oh well, in that moment, I was humbled by the experience and felt ready to return back down the mountain. Lastly, on the return hike I was able to capture any last-minute pictures I may have missed upon first starting out. But, when it's not sunny and the lakes aren't glistening, the aura and invincibility of Joffre Lakes dissipates. Just saying, lol, from my Pov. The hike back down wasn't difficult only taking 90 minutes. When I finally returned to the trailhead, I had been gone for 7 hours or half the day. In the end, I was grateful to have discovered Joffre Lakes Provincial Park on a whim through talking with random friendly hikers. This was a really memorable day and who doesn't love turquoise blue lakes!!!

We have wanted to go to Joffre for years but always felt the kids were maybe a bit too young…read more That said there were plenty of kids on the route but they day we went was raining and the climb between the middle and upper lakes was very slick and very slippery, especially on the way down and even experienced hikers were being very cautious. There are also some really quite steep parts so I am glad we waited until they were older. It's a hike that most can accomplish - just be aware that there are some steep parts that l saw people struggle with - BUT it is ABSOLUTELY worth it! The views keep getting better and better. The first lake - lower lake is less than 5 minutes in and is a large, serene body of water. The second lake was in our opinion . In had that stunning blue green color with a snow capped mountain as it's back drop. It's one of the most beautiful things we have seen. The third lake is large, it was raining pretty heavily by the time we got there which disrupted the color a little but it's still a stunning view that is with the hike. We did the entire hike in a little over 3 hours which was not bad at all given the slippery conditions. It's a beautiful place and well worth a visit

Due to covid the owner, Dane,…read moreinformed us he was switching it up this season to accommodate longer term which worked well for our situation as my husband has a job in the nearby town of Savona for the summer. Dane knew the duration of our needs as well as that we were travelling as a family prior to arriving. Immediately we could tell he ran a tight ship, was very controlling and we did our best to appease his rules and lay of the land. After 4 weeks and zero altercations, confrontions nor any conflict of and kind he adruptly asked us to leave his campground. He informed my husband that it goes against his campground policy to have families stay long term. He also informed my husband that he was not welcome to stay if we (myself and two toddlers) went home due to the fact that he didn't want to appear as if he DIDN'T welcome families. I feel humiliated and as though my family was under attack. We have been camping our entire lives and have never once been kicked out. As my husband was there working and we have young kids we were in bed by 9pm every evening. We respected his property and we stayed within our camp site with the exception of going for walks to catch bugs or ride bikes. This campground is not busy, the other campers are colleagues of my husband, also working nearby for the summer. After being upset and confused, I read multiple reviews on this campsite many describing the owner as unstable. This is not how you treat people. Isn't camping supposed to be about spending time outdoors as a family?!!

This is a easy and beautiful hike near Whistler…read more An easy 30 minute or so drive North of Whistler Village, best to arrive earlier to secure parking and it's a lovely, easy hike along the water, canopied by trees until you reach a spectacular waterfall at the end. Multiple look out points so everyone can get a great vantage point. The lookout is over rock that can get slick when wet but there are ropes you can hold on to if needed. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and on a mid summer day, it was not too busy on our early morning hike!

We arrived at about 3:30pm and there were quite a few parking spots occupied. Luckily, some people were leaving and cleared out as we arrived. The hike itself was more of an easy level of 3km round trip. There are some areas fenced off by the falls where they want guests to stay within the safe boundaries. There are some trails where you can get a closer look/wade into the water. Honestly, not too challenging. You won't want to bring a lot of items (water and proper attire) since it is a relatively quick and short hike. The campground was at max capacity, so we were unable to check it out. We did meet hikers of all ages and abilities on the hike, so you're able to take it at your leisure. The spot is located between Whistler and Pemberton, off the Sea to Sky Highway (#99). If you want some pretty scenery and a relatively quick and easy hike, would definitely recommend. They did have a bear sighting (board said July 18th), so that's at your own risk.

I was part of a work crew and I was coming to the area to work for couple months…read more I contacted the owner Tammy to ask about price for 1 month and possibly make a reservation. I explained to her that I wasn't sure exactly what date I would be coming but I would keep her posted. She pressured me into putting half the month down so I went ahead and email transferred her $525. Over the next several weeks I kept in touch with her and actually came to camp there with my wife and kids during my days off. Upon arrival she was very pushy about me having to pay the other $525 for the month I wanted to reserve....even though I already prepaid for 15 days and was only gonna be using 9 days with my wife and kids, and still had no sure date when I was be arriving with my work crew. The campground looked empty so I figured maybe she was tight on money. I went ahead and paid her the other $525 ( $1050 total ) for 1 month. I got her to write it on the receipt that I was using 9 days now and had still 21 days credit to be used in 2020. Week and half later I emailed her to let her know I would be arriving with the work crew the following week. This is where it all went sideways. She replied back to me that she could no longer honor the 21 days credit and was only willing to give me 7 days. I spoke with her on the phone and explained to her that if she wasn't going to honor my 21 days credit....that I would come use the 7 days she is crediting me, and after the 7 days I would simply take my business somewhere else for the other month and half. She got angry and simply said " If this I how you feel I don't want you here at my campground " Several emails back and forth later she agreed to refund me only 7 days and only if I signed a legal release preventing me to leave any negative feedback online. I declined. She said if I was to post a negative review online she would sue me for defamation. She started feeding me lies that her " lawyer " had sent me a letter and a cheque in the mail.....which never came. Meanwhile she did the exact same thing to several other workers from my crew.....all of who got ripped off and ended up leaving her campground. So anyways, With my receipt in her hand writing I am in the process of going through Small Claims Court to get my 21 days back I had paid for. Other negative points about her campground: - Train goes by every 30 minutes all through the night. - If the trains aren't bad enough, she has a missive farm looking sprinkler going all night long. - Lots of mice. Even in the cabins she rents. While I was there I witnessed a father and sun having to sleep in their truck because the cabin was infected with mice. - She started charging $250 security deposit for the sites ( which is illegal ) - Made us sign waver for my kids that came, due to the fast moving river, which I signed. Arrived onsite to find there was a 3 foot kids pool all setup......but found out it is for " Adults Only ". - Not firepits at any of the sites. She only has a pubic fire pit to be shared by all, and only with direct permission each day, even with no Fire Restrictions in the area, and you still have " buy " your firewood. - Doesn't have garbage pickup so expects everyone to separate their garbage into several containers for compost, recycling, etc. - Her rules state no generators after 7PM which is OK, but then I tried using it for a bit in the afternoon and then she told me there was only 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evenings allowed. - Makes us keep our dogs on leashes while her own dog is roaming free, getting our dogs all worked up. - Expensive for what it is. $35 per night for no services is but steep. Assuming she has all these rules because when she first opened the town of Savona actually had a cease and desist order on her for operating without a permit and without the permission of neighbors. Also got shut down before by Mistry of Health for serving food when not authorized or licensed to do so. The above 2 items were years ago but thought it would explain the kind of person she is. To end this review camping is suppose to me serein and calming and enjoyable. Not filled with a bunch of weird rules and full of stress. Keep your money and sanity and stay away from this business. There are others in the area that will actually appreciate the business.

I recently visited this camp ground for a week long vacation. We were able to book in advance…read moreonline which is always nice. We got one of the last spots available. Lac Le Jeune was hit hard a few years ago by the Mountain pine Beetle which forced them to remove some of the tree's in the area leaving some camp spots without shade which is tough in the day time when the sun is super hot. But it's also something that can't be helped. The campground has RV dump and fill so you can fill up and then dump your waste for $5. My family tented for the week which was nice. Each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. Our spot was quite dusty but again it's nature and that can't always be helped. The campground has "out house" style washrooms however they are flush toilets. There are "Double" sites available for larger families or friends who enjoy camping as a group. The campground is right on the lake so if you're lucky and can book early enough you can get a campsite by the lake. The lake itself is great. It's a grass style beach with a "sandy" slope. But it's not really big enough to build sandcastles. The lake isn't full of rocks like most lakes can be which was nice. There is also a changing area with washroom or changing booths you can use to change. There are an abundance of picnic tables near the beach, making it very easy to picnic. The camp ground is located close to Kamloops and Logan Lake so you don't have to drive far if you need supplies or want to return to civilization for a few hours. The negatives? On some advertisements they claim to have wifi, which isn't true. The women washroom near our campsite was clogged and uncleaned for 2 days despite Park crew being made aware of the situation. Some advertisements also say they have showers. I was there for a week and did not find the showers. Would I go back? Yes however I would book earlier than I did this time.
