It's not cheap, but it's a good, solid hobby store, with helpful clerks, and a decent selection of a wide variety of hobby materials. Every time I go in here I emerge, dazed, with bags full of ribbon and glue sticks and paint-it-yourself frames and twine and cotton batting and acrylic paint and floral wire that I didn't need, as well as the one thing (usually refills for my glue gun) that I went there for. Lots of fun! Edit: I would also like to add that it carries a large selection of good-quality fine art supplies. My sister is a professional fine artist, and I tend to buy her gifts here - pens, inks, paints, pencils, charcoals, and more.

Other than that, there are millions of stairs to get up to the platforms (impossible with either a wheelchair or pram) - no lift or escalator. When the train arrives, the platform is lower than the train, which again makes getting on and off rather difficult with wheeled transportation.

ZOB Hamburg, where ZOB means Central Bus Station, is located close to the City Center and just some…read moreminutes walking from Central Train Station. The building is quite modern, opened in 2003, it replaced the old ZOB that was build in the 50's of the last century. The ZOB consists of three buildings, called A, B and C as well as the numbered arrival/departure stops. The german word here is "Bustasche" - bus bag! Sounds bureaucratic. Anyway - just lock at the number and also check the number of your bus (in general the personal checks your ticket when you board). The place is quite drafty and is missing a real waiting hall. just a small place is available, during opening hours. At night most people wait on the road or enter the close Kebab Kiosk oder Mc Donalds. Beause the Toilet is closed at the same time the ticket counters close, people use the places around during the night. Especially in summer you may smell it! Just be aware of pick-pockets und don't wunder, often there are lots of homeless searching for shelter. Also drugs are sold and consumed here. So to me, this is not a cosy place at all and you always could be happy if your bus arrives and departs as scheduled.

It could contain around 10 buses at once. The design of the station stays with glass and steel, very modern and simple. at the station, you can also find some shops and fast food restaurants around. So no need to worried about food if you got hungry after a long trip. Although the bus station is quite modern looking, it kinda looks a bit dirty after a long day. I mean it's understandable, since there are lots of people come and go in a day. Especially in raining days, quite chaotic. Beside than that, also you should look good after your own belongings, It looks quite dangerous here.

I've seen 2 in a month!…read moreMy fascination with these relics of the cold war stems mainly from enjoying "The Hunt for Red October" so much. U-434 is a Soviet vessel dating from 1976. She is a Tango-class (NATO designation) attack boat, armed with 24 torpedoes. Powered by 3x 5200 shp 6 cylinder diesels, she was, I believe, the largest non-nuclear submarine in service at the time. A German businessman thought it would be a good idea to buy her for around EUR1M in 2002, and she was transported back from Russia for a further EUR1M and now lies in Hafen City. Admission is around EUR12 with an extra EUR3 for the guided tour, which ou can have in English. I highly recommend the extra tour as you get to see areas of the boat (command room etc.) that you wouldn't be able to otherwise. Sadly, as she was still in active service as a training boat until 5 years ago, the Ruskies removed quite a bit of equipment from her before she was sold. Therefore, you won't be plotting a firing solution as the torpedo computer has gone, along with sonar and communications. For the most part though this is as authentic as it gets. One ping only.

If that appeals to you, have at it! But take it from me, watch your head. The doors are low at the top, and high at the bottom, and generally have pipes just where you want to stand up after passing through. (Probably not a good outing for a first date.)
