Protein Box. Boiled eggs, grapes, cheese, turkey, and hummus with veggies. So good and so filling too!

There is something about saving time that makes things better! Qwik Cafe, for example, makes lunch super quick and easy when you're in a pinch for time! It really, truly IS quick! From snacks (chocolate almonds, trail mix, etc) to desserts (think lemon bars, cake, and brownies). Sandwiches (hot or cold) to salads and half sandwich/half salad lite lunches. Even fruit or protein platters and other sides are available a la cart! There are options a plenty and everything is fresh and appetizing. I've had many options from here after the gym and the service (by service I mean grabbing your dressing and charging you) is as quick and friendly as the food is fresh and tasty. The sandwich options are limited but the quick factor is what makes (and names) this place. Literally grab, pay, and go. If you decide fairly quickly, you should be out in one or two minutes, tops! Definitely worth a stop if you're in a hurry.

Not once in the 20 some odd years of working have I worked in downtown Bakersfield, but that changed this year and with that change came new food spots to conquer. One spot that is definitely one of my go to spots to grab a quick bite is Qwik Café. While I may have an hour for lunch, I don't want to be hanging out in the streets of downtown, I rather eat and relax with a small nap if possible. What I like most about this spot is how quickly things move, you jump in line, grab the food you want and the cashier is efficient in checking you out to be on your merry way. Their offering is not huge but there is a good variety and something for anyone, at least I think so. All sandwiches are cold but some of them can be warmed up like their Turkey Melt. My favorites have been the Turkey Bacon, Tuna Sandwich and their Cobb Salad. While they are quick bites, they are definitely not small portioned unless you opt for the half sandwich, half salad combo but even with that, it seems like a full meal and more. They have Zappo chips, fruit medley's, some desserts and even soup of the day and they are owned/operated by Sequoia Sandwich so you know the quality of them are excellent. As I mentioned previously one of my faves is the Cobb Salad, they jam pack that salad with bacon bits, ham, turkey and fresh veggies and you can't forget about the chopped boiled eggs, that completes it. They do offer several dressings but I only go for Thousand Island so I couldn't tell you exactly what they offer other than ranch and balsalmic. If you are in the downtown area, possibly serving on Jury Duty (LOL), Qwik Café is just a few minutes away with a brisk walk, you don't have to worry about ordering, you and can in and out within 5 minutes or less, all depends if you make fast decisions and be on your way back to enjoy that delicious sandwich, soup and/or salad!

I stopped in here on opening day and was pleasantly surprised with this newest offering from the Sequoia sandwich family. The concept is simple: decent food fast, with hours that reflect the midday lunch crowd. You'll find no made to order items here, just pre-package foods prepared each day in the Sequoia kitchen. Refrigerated cases contain a selection of salads, sandwiches, wraps, and desserts. There isn't any set menu, as they're hoping to rotate offerings. While most items are cold, you can pick up the daily soup. If you're in a hurry, this will likely be one of your new favorite options. Prices are on par with the next door sandwich shop (about $7-8/sandwich). Side salads and chips are available for pick-up at an extra charge. If you're jonesing for something sweeter, they have slices of cheesecake or their big as your head cookies as well. Seating is limited to three tables out front, keeping in line with the concept of get in, get out. Dedicated parking for patrons is also available to maximize efficiency, though I imagine using their sister sandwich shop's dedicated lot across the street would be fine too. Overall, a great new addition to the downtown lunch scene, and a welcome option for those of us on extremely limited schedules.

    Horrible Sandwich!
