It pains me to write this...but I have to agree with the not so positive Yelp reviews. I've always LOVED Sequoia burger, grew up in Sebastopol and regularly ate here when I visit....but I think with the change in ownership (end of 2009) things are not what they used to be. Food gets one star, customer service brings it up to two. The negatives: Buns not toasted on the inside, which IMO is standard practice Meat not flavorful...well, actually it was flavored with a dirty grill flavor and burnt flakes from the grill Fries were heavy with grease, are a smaller portion now than they used to be and they used VERY old grease making the fries not only taste funny/bad but they were also brownish in color (not burnt, just brown)...I only could eat a couple. Add that to the fact they were limp (they used to be very crispy and airy). Had I not gotten take out these definitely would have been returned. WIth the previous owner, he was ALWAYS there and quality was consistent. I hope the current owner takes steps to improve to what the community is used to. If you do go, get the Redwood Burger with the 1000 dressing and cheddar...it does add to the flavor. Take your chances on the fries and report back here...I need to know if I just happened to visit on an off night. The positive: The customer service is very friendly. If it weren't for the nice gal who took my order I would have given only ONE star. And, also I feel bad giving one star unless I was able to be there in person to see if they could fix the problems I had. read more

Alright, I've tried to like this place three times now and it's just not happening. I will speak frankly and then give an explanation. For a place that places its fries in the spotlight, their fries straight up suck ass. On this last journey, I placed an order over the phone for one small garlic fry because I hear they're pretty drn good. He asked for my name and I said "Joshua." To which he replies, "I'm just gonna put down Josh." ... "10 minutes". Ok. So, I go there, ask for my order, then I could clearly see they completely forgot about it. So I waited a total of 20 minutes to get my one small garlic fry order while a bunch of teenage workers gossiped and gossiped and, yes that's right you guessed it, gossiped some more. I was stoked for a minute to see how big the portions were, I forgot. But that stoke was immediately replaced by sorrow when I tasted the fries. Incredible soggy and bland-barely any flavor at all, I mean like next to none. And the burgers in the past have been the same for me, large sizewise but really is just a regular burger with a little extra flavor. That is this place's one redeeming quality; if you wanna chow down on a craving of massive, greasy fast food, I guess it's good for that. But overall, poor service and a clear motto of 'quantity over quality... and flavor (somehow)' succinctly describe my experiences at Suckquoia Burger. read more

Stopped here on our way to Anchor Bay. They are a little slow but that is easily overlooked because the food here is awesome! The burgers were juicy and full of flavor while the condiments on the burgers were crisp, fresh, chilled. I ordered a large garlic fry to share with my husband....it was HUGE! The fries covered the entire plastic tray and were a giant mountain of fries. Do yourself a favor, stop here, relax and enjoy some great burger and fries! read more

Stopped here with my family of five for lunch the other day. From the time we ordered our lunch to the time they had it out to us, was about 15 minutes which I thought was rather quick. The cheeseburgers were really good for the price along with the fries. A large order of fries easily feeds a family of five. The chocolate shakes were a great finish. This is your good old fashion burger joint. The only negative, was that it was cold outside and there was no heated indoor seating or heaters in the outside patio and the two benches out front were only partially in the sun and wet. However, that won't be a deterrent for me and I definitely will be going back. read more

Definitely get the fries! Fresh cut, skins on, yummm! "Small" is huge and feeds 2-3 people. Char-grilled meat, cheddar you can taste, fresh tomato and lettuce. Not a fancy place, just down-home-local, delicious, fills-you-up burger 'n' fries. Yum! read more

so, seriously, a small order of fries or onion rings is plenty. we stopped for a burger and I was in the mood for onion rings. usually, at other places, you don't get so many... so we got fries with that. we totally ate more of each than we should have and still had to throw some out. the burgers were very good... messy, which is a good thing. not overcooked, which is a really good thing. food came up in a decent amount of time - i liked knowing that it was being cooked then and there and hadn't been waiting around since lunch. i liked the fish and chips - again, it comes with a ton of fries. the bf loved the clam chowder. i'll try some next time, and I'm looking forward to trying a milkshake. read more

My boyfriend, daughter, and I stopped by for a quick snack on Saturday and ended getting half an order of fries and half an order of the onion rings...WOW! Today we had a going away lunch at Sequoia Burger. The food was good, the portions were great. The downfall was that during our dining experience there was a leaf blower right on the other side of the fence blowing dirt into our food. we banged on the fence to get their attention and it was met with profanities and then the owner of the property came around the fence and read us the riot act. Shortly after he mentioned that he owned the Sequoia Burger property and I'm guessing the restaurant itself. He then mentioned that we did not have to eat there and that the 100 dollars that we were spending was nothing compared to paying 2 million dollars for this place and that we had the choice to not eat there again. Long story short it was to bad because we really like the food but with this environment we will not be back. hope this is an isolated incident and that the good food continues to flow. read more

Do not be fooled! As much as it pains me to say it, this place lost all of it's former glory when it switched to it's current owners. They use some cheap patty for their burgers now, which might as well be a urinal cake when you compare them to the burgers you used to get from this once phenomenal burger joint. It was busy at lunch. The burgers were just okay. The large order of fries filled the whole tray. But they were just okay.

Ok - hubby and I are kind of suckers for the small town drive up burger place and we have had plenty of really mediocre burgers over the years. But this place had DAMN good burgers, had that crunchy outer char that is so homemade BBQ style- so good we went back a second time! NOTE buyer beware - the portion on the fries are HUGE. They cut the fries right then and into the grease fryer they go - the garlic fries were packed full of garlic - good when they are fresh and hot - would have liked to ask them to cook them longer for us next time as I like a more crunchy fry. I thought they made a mistake and gave us a large instead of a small - nope! A large he said can feed 6-8 people! We liked them with the tartar sauce instead of the ranch. Yummy. Wish I could eat dairy - I am sure the shakes are good too! They have covered seating in the back patio area and pic nic tables on the highway side. Young staff does a bang up job - sometimes there was a pretty long line so go prepared for that - it's good stuff! read more

Half way through a order of fries my 20 year old daughter bit into a rusty screw YES a rusty dark colored greasy screw was in the bag of fries, Her tooth got a little chip in it, I called the owner he told us to come down, the owner was at the market next door so we went in their. Told him what had happened, He told us their was no possible way the screw came from his fries, Well YES it did , Im a small business owner in town and I cant believe how rude and arrogant this man was with us, we were his customer and he treats us like this. He wouldnt even consider that yes his burger joint was to blame. Sorry to say that we have to pursue this matter further, I want everyone to know what happened , If this happened to my daughter who is 20 think if a small child had grabbed a handful of fries and shoved them in their mouth the outcome could of been alot worse then a chipped tooth. read more

Damn, really wanted to like this place. I went back here a couple of weeks ago with some buddies on our way back from the pol. I was hyping it up in a major way and came off looking real sheisty. The old onion rings that they used to make, they don't make anymore. The old ones were shoestring style and they gave you almost a whole lunch bag full. And that was a small! The new ones were really, really heavily fried and there wasn't actually all that much of them (still didn't finish em though, I was just used to the old size I guess). I ordered the fish and chips and substituted for onion rings, but I did try my buddies fries and they were still pretty similar to the old fries, so that's a good thing. Then we come to the fish. I would like to say it was fresh, but with the huge amounts of batter, I just couldn't really tell. The batter probably made up a good 2/3 of the weight of the pieces. I got two pieces that probably added up to a good 1/5 lb of actual fish if that. I was pretty bummed out. I like eating out back on the patio and the people have always been pretty nice, but when the food isn't there, I'm not either. Don't think I'm going back to this one. read more

When I was a kid this was a simple place with a simple menu and great burgers and fries. It was a treat to go as a family. They used to get their high quality beef fresh ground daily in town from Fiesta market's meat dept. I know because I worked there and ground it myself a few times. Now it's honestly a shell of the place it was back then in terms of quality. They use much less quality meat that they most likely get from Cisco or something, pretty sure they are just pre-pressed patties. The menu is way to complicated and includes signs its gone down hill and is trying desperately to make money, like adding fish and chips to a burger shack???. The fries are greasy because they are not fried properly. The bun was a store bought stale thing. Don't see how people gave this 5 stars. It is now just a mediocre at best burger place when it used to be great. Go back to making great high quality burgers with quality ingredients. Might give it another try but we will see. read more

Waiting for my 15 dollar lunch of a burger fries and a soda I can't help but price how filthy this place is. There are flies everywhere, and a layer of grime over the soda machine and condiment table that has to be weeks old. I will never return. I had a craving for a burger and Sequoia is down the street from me. I haven't eaten here before and I'm bummed I waited this long. I had a Mushroom Burger and ordered a small regular fry and a small Cajun fry and spent 10.80. The burger was very big and one order of fries would have fed at least 2 people. My only complaint is that the mushrooms seemed like they were from a can :( So minus one start for that but I will be back!! read more

I have driven by for years. I have heard good things about Sequoia in years past, so i finally stopped by tonight. I had the jalapeno burger. It was a major disappointment.... Soggy bun...surly counter guy, and my burger didn't come as ordered. It was waaay overcooked (I asked for med-rare) and loaded with all the things I asked to be left off. So my apologies if that review caused anyone to avoid Sequoia where they make excellent burgers and have a 1960's charm. Their burgers are SO good, I have no clue if they even make chicken sandwiches because whenever I go there, I never even look at the menu. It's always a cheeseburger and it's always great. read more

Great Hamburgers but are a little pricey. However, the fries, onion rings, and Cajun fries are amazing and the amount you get for the price is unbelievable...it is literally a huge amount that overflows from the basket and one serving could easily serve 4 people. Staff is friendly and they have a nice little covered back patio. That patio can be cold if the sun isn't out. read more
