As all may know, Sephora is a one-stop shop that offers a variety of brand names in beauty products. I popped in here quickly after work to get a gift card for a friend's birthday. I was a little surprised at how small this location was, and the layout was a little cramped. I was lucky to find street parking right in front of the store (make sure you read the signs for towing). I wanted to quickly go in and out, but there was only one cashier at the register. For a busy location off of M St, I would love to see more SAs in the back to help with the check-out process to keep the line moving. Overall, there seemed to be a lot of SAs doing make-overs and offering beauty tips to customers, and the vibe in there is pretty friendly and positive. The store itself seemed a little disorganized and a little unkempt compared to the other Sephora locations. read more

I still love Sephora. I still spend an amount of money there each month that I would be too embarrassed to ever admit to say, my grandmother. But I've noticed one terribly displeasing thing about Sephora. Twice now I've bought products from Sephora that have been opened, used a LOT, and were grimy and gross. They looked like sample products that a bunch of grimy 12 year old fingers got a hold of during a slumber party. It's happened on two separate occasions. The first time I called the store immediately and they told me to bring my product back, explaining that all of their merchandise is out on the floor and sometimes that happens, but as long as I had my receipt they would exchange the product for me. Unfortunately I don't get into Georgetown on a weekly basis, so one week turned into three and then I just let it go. Now, my most recent trip - and I came home and found the same problem. I'm planning to return the product ASAP, but I'm really unimpressed. I hate the idea that I now have to inspect every product I buy just to be sure that it hasn't been opened and that more than half of it is used. I mean, I don't pay $40 for foundation that's half-empty and grimy. I love having the open feeling of Sephora - being able to walk in, use the tester products to see what shades work and what doesn't. It feels like playing in a make up artist's wonderland. But taking home products that have clearly been on the shelf, stacked up with other "new" products - that really upsets me. For now I'll resort to inspecting everything ... buyer beware. read more

Jesus, women! How much stuff do we need???? I mean, really. How is it that this store needs to be *that* big??? How much shit do we need for our faces???? Anything you need, I'm sure this Sephora's got it. I saw products I hadn't seen since drugstores in Europe, and they've got my precious, expensive hair vitamins (made even better because Sephora had sent me a coupon)! The salespeople were really helpful, too. When I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed, I asked a sales associate where I could find the brand of the hair vitamins. He gave me directions, and as I ascended the stairs, another sales associate popped up to physically point to exactly where they were. Gotta love those Secret Service walkies. And by makeup jobs of some of the associates, they can tell you how to use every single product in the store on one face, I'm sure of it. But the selection is insane for both men and women, and of course, if you can't find it in the store, they'll help you locate it online. Lovely! Overwhelming, but lovely! read more

I got my makeup done here for the Adele concert. The store is obviously in a great location, in Georgetown and the employees are all really nice. I got my makeup done by Martha. She is absolutely amazing and I left feeling like a completely new person. In order to get my makeup done for free (from the concealer to lashes) all I had to do was purchase $50 worth of merchandise (easy enough). I showed Martha a photo of the look I was looking for and she made it happen. She is so sweet and a professional! I will definitely come back and get my makeup done here again. read more

If you care about the quality of your cosmetics and excellent customer service, you've come to the right place. Sephora has an overwhelming collection of cosmetics that you can get lost in for hours... all high quality, high-end products. They also offer free makeup consultations and they will try different makeups on you to help you find the right line and shade. The store helped me get over my fear of eyelash curlers by showing me a really nice one with a replaceable pad that prevents any eyelid pinching! Each makeup shelf has disposable brushes, swabs, mirrors, and mini trash cans for trying out each product before you buy, which is so important! The downside is that you will spend way more than you intended upon entering the store, and the aggressive sales staff will make sure of it. The staff use headsets to communicate to each other about who is coming up the stairs and what they need, which is helpful at times because it keeps customers from wandering around lost in a sea of cosmetics. I appreciate the help, but I have to say it also gets on my nerves a little. Sometimes I just want to browse in peace! Another beef of mine is the location because I personally find it inconvenient to make trips out to Georgetown on a regular basis. A Metro station would be just grand, but that isn't going to happen. Like other stores in Georgetown, it's townhouse-style - small and tall. Which means it can be difficult to navigate, especially when crowded. Overall, you'll find everything you are accustomed to finding at a Sephora. But it may take you longer to find it. And you'll feel more cramped. But staff are plenty friendly and helpful. And despite the crowd, I waited barely 2 minutes in line to checkout. read more

If you like makeup and perfume, you will like sephora. period. What I really like about sephora is the ability to test out many different brands in one store without a pushy sales person standing between you and all of the testers. Since I have sensitive skin, this is a great way to weed out any products that would give me hives... or frankly just look bad. This sephora is two floors, which I think helps disburse the crowd a bit. I would recommend this store over the next closest location in pentagon city mainly because you won't be suffocated by tourists.... but maybe knocked by their jcrew bags a few times. read more

This is probably the best Sephora in the DC-metro area. It's two floors--the downstairs being primarily cosmetics, and upstairs has skincare, haircare, and perfumes. There's a good selection of items and a huge array of brands, though they are often out of stock since it is usually pretty picked over. The staff is typically very friendly and super helpful. I have a LOT of makeup. I am a freelance makeup artist, but I'm also insane. I have enough makeup to start my own Sephora. But if I'm in the area, I always have to stop in to at least look. My mom and I walked in for a pick up order. My mom had forgotten her mask in the car so she walked back out. In that time I was approached by a staff member (short Asian women) "we're closed". Which I explained we were picking up an online order that was already paid for, and the door was still unlocked. I don't normally wear makeup, and when I went into the store, I expected to get some help. Instead, I was treated like a leper. I couldn't believe it. Not only was the staff not helping me (I'm sure that I looked like I needed help), but they also were giving me dirty looks! The last time that I got a dirty look from staff at a store was when I went into Abercrombie and Fitch with pink hair. There really isn't much better than a great makeup saleswoman. I love it when they know what they're doing, push you a bit out of your comfort zone, and make you look fabulous. My last trip to Sephora provided me with one of these fantastic women. I came in after a long day of the real job and then the boutique job, and I was looking quite haggard. I desperately needed some new mascara and a vanilla eyeshadow, but was also in the mood to play. I asked her about a good spring lipcolor and tried to explain my attempt at becoming a real adult by moving from lipgloss to lipstick. Big moves, people. She was nice enough to let me try on a bajillion colors, happily cleaning off each tester and letting me use 3,000 kleenex to wipe each color off for being too purple, too pink, too yellow, too dark, too brown, etc. I finally found the perfect subtle shade with flecks of gold in it-- fabulous! She also asked if I had ever tried red. Whoa now. Red is bold.... red is daring.... red... sounds awesome. She said she had "just the perfect shade" and you know what? She was right. I had tried red lipstick before and was never sold on it, until this time. I asked for an accompanying lipliner and she actually recommended the Sephora brand-- a mere $6. I love when they do that! I always walk out of Sephora so excited to play with my new toys. The selection is incredible and I really like all of the Sephora brand products, which are almost as low as drugstore prices, with much better quality. I walked into here on the way home from work sometime because I wanted to pick up some chap stick and cologne. Well you can walk through the whole store and most of the staff will glance at you then return to whatever they were doing before that was extremely important. So I finally decided to ask for some help and the guy who ended up assisting me was actually pretty unhelpful. He sauntered up to the men's section then wandered off before I could ask any other questions. I guess when you're only paying about $250 2 bottles of cologne and $10 for chapstick you can't expect much service. Now that I know where things are in this store in the future I'll just grab what I need, checkout and be on my way. May the powers that be have mercy on my soul if I decide I ever want to try something new while here. read more

Love this Sephora in Georgetown, even though it's a bit out of the way whenever I am in DC. The staff is expert and gives great treatment and advice. In particular, Raphielle was patient and gave me pointers in my hair/facial care routine. I have so much more knowledge now and am excited to try out her tips. Sephora makes me want to buy things I didn't know I wanted to buy, like blue false eyelashes with feathers on them. If you like makeup, or even if you just like the idea of makeup, this store, this location, is for you. This is the biggest Sephora I've seen, with the best staff. What I love the most is that I can go in and say, "I want an eyeliner, I guess...that's not too dark? Or something? I donno, but my eyes look boring, but I hate eyeliner because I always smudge it." And I will walk out 20 minutes later knowing all about the latest eyeliners, colors, products, waterproof capabilities, and sales. And I will probably have two good eyeliners in my striped bag. I only ever wear Bare Minerals because IT IS AWESOME, and Sephora always has it. I like their perfume selection. I like their overwhelming mascara selection. I like the service. Although every well-heeled woman [who doesn't limit herself to the Chanel counter at Neiman Marcus] in DC knows this is the place for the best service and products, I still feel like a queen when I waltz in to pick up my Urban Decay and Stila staples. The customer service and professionalism is unprecedented, yet this branch manages to maintain a friendly charm. Sephora treats its clients well and makes money spent more than worthwhile. Return anything that doesn't quite work out. Use your Beauty Insider card to score more lovely pretty things like eye creams and lip and cheek colors. I only wish they carried Kerastase hair products... but fortunately I can stroll up to my salon on Wisconsin and pick that up with an extra 10 minutes. Allow me to recommend* Fresh Mangosteen soap and body lotion. Stila Illuminating Makeup. Stila lip and cheek cream in lillium. Benetint! Benefit Erase Paste. I've been here many times and finally am deciding to review it, my only problem is that it's not my favorite. The store is a little cramped and narrow and being that it's Georgetown, it's always packed. There were a few things that I tried to find that they were out of, or I couldn't find it on the shelves. It may have been the time of year since since they were swamped with people. I tried to get help from someone but it was so busy and I got tired of waiting. Next time I will maybe call ahead and see if they have what I need or order online. read more

Just beginning my work travel again, I found myself missing a HUGE- NECESSARY- INGREDIENT- my travel size perfume- by Bulgari. Sephora is the only place that sells it. I have grown to HATE the Michigan Ave store in Chicago, my home, so I was planning to pick one up in NYC. Luck intervened. Rambling around Georgetown today- I found this one and walked on in. I have to say... I loved the customer service. The man working the second floor was pretty fantastic! He was helpful, kind, efficient- and went out of his way to take things to help me get stuff together! We found 2 boxes- and at 20$ a bottle- I had to buy them both!! The people are really helpful and friendly, so they can help you find whatever product you need, even if you don't know what it is yet. It was my first time going to this location due to the fact that they had a new cosmetic brand that is not available anywhere (the item I wanted was out of stock. UGH). They ignored you and act like you're a social pariah cause you don't look the part. Newflash: treat ALL customers like VIP cause you never know if they're a secret shopper or a socialite. I always have a really great time shopping at this Sephora. The layout of the store is really nice and organized. All the makeup is located downstairs, skincare and then perfumes and msc items upstairs, making it really spacious especially if you consider how small the Georgetown area is. It also doesn't get too crowded here, which is nice because at other Sephoras, I've found myself helplessly wandering around. I would say that their selection is really good! They sell Giorgio Armani, which is pretty rare for Sephora, along with most high-end brands. The staff is great! I'm generally very picky when it comes to other people giving me makeup advice or trying to do my makeup, but the staff here is actually decently well-trained. I appreciate that. read more

If for no other reason, this location is amazing because the setup allows for natural lighting. Of all the Sephora locations I've visited in VA and MD I was SHOCKED to find that the mirrors and make-up stands are near the windows. This matters because artificial/yellow lighting changes how your make-up looks. It's possible for your makeup to look amazing in the stores and you walk outside realizing that its not the right undertone or shade. Sephora's great. Nice staff, tons of products, etc. I do have one gripe and I think it may be more directed at the corporation than the Georgetown store itself. Sephora prides itself on having knowledgeable staff that can provide recommendations. However, it appears the staff are given certain products each month to push. So, when you go in and ask the staff to recommend a product for a certain issue, they will almost certainly push you towards whatever line is being promoted that month. Even when I come in with a specific product in mind, they will push you towards their products of the month. When they were promoting Perricone a while back, it was especially aggressive. (I can only think there was a prize for the staff member that had the highest Perricone sales.) I was in the store asking about a $50 Clinique product and the staff members kept pushing me towards a $100 Perricone product, even thought the Clinique product had better reviews on the website. It's a pretty thinly veiled attempt at the "up-sale" and it doesn't inspire much confidence in their advice. That said, I went in for makeover before my wedding and the makeup artist did a great job. Sure, every single product that was used was made by Givenchy, but I was happy with the end results. I guess my bottom line here is to take their advice with a grain of salt. read more

I've been to this particular store several times and all have been great experiences but my most memorable experience was the last time I came in. I knew exactly what I wanted and where it was. My friend, Mark, happened to be with me that day, running errands all over M Street and I told him just to wait downstairs, I'll be right back. So I go upstairs, grab the replacement eyeshadow I wanted, came back down, paid and was ready to move on to our next errand. I look around and I can't find my friend anywhere. I'm like ... uhh, he better not have left without me just because I brought him to Sephora for like 5 min. Much to my surprise, I finally find him towards the back of the store talking with a saleswoman. That boy ended up buying whatever it was she suggested to him - which was not just one thing but a few products. He had a bigger bag than me when we left the store. It made me giggle the whole rest of the day. So I guess the saleswoman was either really good at her job or Mark is just a sucker for a pretty girl. read more

Going to Sephora is like eating Ben & Jerry's: deep down you know it's a bad idea but it's so delicious you just can't resist! On my last visit to Sephora I only needed to buy mascara and nothing else. Needless to say I walked out with a whole bag full of goodies that I do not regret purchasing. The salespeople are always helpful and will gladly prepare samples of any product on the spot. The only thing I don't really like about this location is the odd configuration. It's not as spacious as other Sephoras in NY so I always feel like I'm bumping into people or product displays. read more

I visited this Sephora Sunday afternoon for a full face makeover. I am a staple at this location and twice a year schedule time with a make up artist to do an avant-garde look for events. I have been doing this for years and it is ALWAYS a pleasure. Well, it was until this Sunday. The make up artists were still class acts and amazing. Jelani always leaves me looking and feeling super glam, and he worked with another colleague name London to create this season's avant-garde look for me. So why only one star? Jonathan Curtis. Apparently Jonathan is the store manager, and that is truly unfortunate. When I showed up for my appointment he didn't stop to listen when I tried to tell him I had a special request as I could not figure out how to add it when I booked online. (All previous appointments were booked in person and I was able to meet with the store manager to discuss the look and MUA prior to the actual appointment.) He brought over London, my MUA, and barely introduced us, but was sure to hover and give her not so subtle reminders that she had to wrap up by 4pm. After the third one, he very loudly said, while standing right behind her, "it's almost 4 so we should be wrapping up our 3pm appointments." She did her best to continue working on my look, but the environment was WAY too tense, and make up is supposed to be fun. I stopped him and requested a word when he got a chance. When he returned, I showed him several previous looks I'd gotten done at that location and John told me that Georgetown only does eye makeup for elaborate looks and there is no full face option AFTER seeing photos of all my many looks that were done by HIS make up artists in the Georgetown location. I asked about what PBA locations are, as he said those are the only places I can go for what I wanted and he told me that Georgetown doesn't offer services that last more than one hour per client. Too bad. My makeup draws customers into the store to see the looks as they unfold. The make up artists come to life and the store buzzes EVERY TIME I get a look done. Oh, and since the looks usually take about 3 hours, I spend the requisite $50/hr on products. If I break this down, each hour-long full face makeover is $50. My look took 3 hours. In the future, if necessary, I will just book three back to back makeovers. He made up a story about how my artist was booked at 4pm and he'd have to find someone to replace her because my look was taking too long. I guess he wasn't aware that when booking online EVERYONE can see what time slots are available. I don't like to be lied to period, but certainly not by someone managing a place where I enjoy spending my money. I also like for make up days to be fun, and if I wasn't enjoying the experience as a customer, I cannot imagine how his employees felt with him hovering and harassing them. Jonathan's micromanaging, lack of imagination, and cold demeanor may just motivate me to do MORE looks at this location, just to be sure his staff are able to have fun a few more times a year. I love this location and it is extremely convenient for me. I'd love it more if Jonathan was transferred though. He stressed me out and I don't work for him. Such a killjoy! Who doesn't love Sephora?! I came in to Sephora to buy a NARS lipstick and ended up walking with perfumes and other goodies. This place isn't as big as some of the locations in New York, but they still carry a lot! My only complaint is that they need more cashiers OR those cashiers need to work a little faster. I had SA help me and he even sniffed what perfumes smelled better on me! Hahah. If you're in Georgetown, come check it out. It's definitely convenient. read more

LOVES IT!!!! I came here twice in two days. Confession, I am a blush a-phobic. I see it on other women and think ahhh how pretty and fresh. I see it on myself and think ahhhh 1980's fashion fair. The ladies here not only held my hand and tried 10 different shades on my, but were totally understanding when I walked out sans blush. I returned the next day because I couldn't get the blush out my head. I went back, head hanging and bought the blush. And while I saw a gleam of I told you so in the eyes of the ladies who helped me, they were gracious enough not to say it out loud. read more

The two young women and one man who approached me as I walked into the store were so great in offering me information on making my way around DC from the Georgetown area. I admitted that I did not look forward to walking back to the Foggy Bottom when they told me that was the nearest metro stop and that is when the young sales associate told me about the Circular. So thankful considering I did not feel like dealing with rush hour on the metro. I only go to Sephora when I plan on buying something in ATL but I am glad I stopped to browse at this location. read more

CS is usually MIA. There are three reps that I believe had above average service and I definitely remember how they went above and beyond to help me find products over my visits. The rest do a bad job matching foundation and having product knowledge. They have all the greatest brands. Good location just don't expect to find a park. read more

Compared to Sephora locations in Boston, NYC, or even White Plains NY, this place is on the small side. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice and adequate Sephora. I'm only making this comment because there are comments about it being big and I don't think it is that big. I think there is a nice selection of make up, perfume, cologne, and accessories. When I went in here I wandered around for a split second before being offered some help. A guy was working upstairs and was really nice about showing us the colognes that I could douse upon Boyfriend. I found this amusing, Boyfriend did not. After a cologne overdose I went back down stairs in search of the real reason I went there... a Kat Von D lipstick. They had it! And I walked out of there a happy woman. The aisles are tight so watch your bags and don't knock something over! read more

Although this location may look tiny, they have a second floor and a back area to rival other competition. It's fully stocked any I've never had an issue of not having a product "in stock." Also, they always have an adequate amount of staff to support the shopping needs. My only complaint, if that, is that the cashier section is sort of awkwardly placed within the depth of the store. It makes it difficult to navigate around and also, hard to view the items in the line view. My other semi complaint is that when I went to purchase an item, my cashier insisted that it was an item that was "trial only." The only problem with that is that is wasn't- I checked. Also, she told me there are no others in stock and when I was leaving the building I clearly saw (2) other items available on my requested item. I was too annoyed at that time to get back in line so I let it go. She gave me a free order coupon for delivery but really...? I was already there- no longer interested. read more

Like most sephoras, you're going to find your run of the mill overly helpful ladies and gents who want to put you in so much glitter you look like ziggy stardust. however, the layout of this place is wonderful, and i felt much less assaulted than i usually do walking into sephoras. And, when you do need help, the sephor-ers have plenty of good advice. I had a 20% off coupon, and I wanted to splurge on some eye-liquid/potion/thing that will prevent me from ever resorting to botox. I'm only 22, so i just wanted something that would moisturize and prevent ugly. tall, super pretty black girl with short hair, perfect skin, and awesome personality directed me to Juice Beauty Organic Solution Eye Moisturizer and I LOVE IT. AND when I came in a few weeks later (yes im an addict, okay?) she remembered me and asked me how i liked it. I am a product junkie. I was recently audited by my husband regarding my "personal product" shopping habits and realized that I spend way too much on makeup, skincare, makeup, perfume, makeup...and the funny thing is I am not a heavy makeup wearer! Anyway, this is the BEST Sephora I have ever been in. It's laid out very nicely, it's posh and clean (unlike some I've been in where you're scared to touch any of the sample tubes of gloss based on the condition of the store), and the sales people are really, really on-point. Too many times I've gone to sephora to get matched for a foundation, find a replacement blush, etc and walked out with something awful that I've had to return. That, or I'm being pushed around by large crowds and ignored by overly done-up "makeup artists" who look like clowns. At Georgetown Sephora, they must have some seriously high hiring standards because everyone was friendly, attractive, clean, and willing to help. They actually knew what they were talking about and I didn't feel like someone was pushing something on me that they had just seen a presentation on from their local distribution rep... The best part--- there are MEN that work there. Now ladies, I know you are great but sometimes I wonder if you secretly don't want us other ladies to look too good so you might give us a little crap. The men only want us to look our best so I was thrilled to see that there were several working there just waiting to make me beauty-licious. read more
