I would like to start this review off by saying that I have never left a negative review about any…read moreplace that I have chosen to do business in being a business owner myself, but I have to do this. I also want to state that this review is only about the experience I had in the salon at this location, so here it goes
I scheduled an appointment in the salon with Leticia at the end of August. The reason why I chose to have my highlights done at Ulta is because I figured it would be a one stop shop, get my hair done, purchase the products necessary to maintain my hair looking beautiful and have more reasons to stop in to shop. The young lady that helped me to make my appointment was super nice and highly recommended making an appointment with Lety because I was told she was the best. So, we scheduled m appointment for the end of September and I was super excited about it. One thing I should mention is I am legally blind and so appointments, especially for hair, can be extremely nerve racking. I can see a little bit, but not enough to be able to point at a picture and pick out a color or style. Anyway, the staff assured me that my disability would not be an issue and honestly, they were really kind about it. This, however, is where it goes south.
The night before my scheduled appointment I got a call from her assistant to confirm and I was told her assistant would be helping out with the process. My appointment was at 10 am on Saturday, September 26th and I arrived about 15 minutes early. I waited until about 10:15 and a young lady came to get me. She did not introduce herself so I assumed this was Lety. When I asked her how long she had been working there she said, 3 months but don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I told her I wanted full highlights but not platinum so I assumed she knew this meant blonde. I called her "Lety" like 3 times and she never corrected me (this was not Lety, but in fact, her assistant Victoria). When the time she gave me was almost up she made a comment about the brown looking nice. Brown? I said highlights are not brown, they are blonde. I had gone out of my way to make sure she understood I did not want caramel highlights, but blonde and she gave me Brown. So this lady (who I later found out was actually Lety) came over and they started speaking Spanish thinking I didn't understand. I actually speak English, Spanish, French, and Latin and I also understand Italian and Portuguese. They figured out I could understand them and just to make sure one of them said you speak Spanish huh to which I said yes. They had to "fix" it and this ensued another 90 minutes being in the chair. When Victoria finished, my hair was still wet, she gave me a hack job of a haircut and my naturally curly hair still feels like a sponge. My hair is not cut correctly for the type of hair that I have and it's embarrassing to even leave my house. They offered to fix it for free, with treatments but Lety's attitude when I talked to her was not apologetic and she took no accountability for what happened. I felt completely deceived and feel they thought they could get away with me not knowing who actually did my hair because of my blindness. She blamed me at first because she said I didn't request any treatments for my hair. I told her I asked for recommendations while I was in the chair and got none. She then said it was because they are trying out new products and that is why the texture of my hair was off. I told her that the new products would not make my hair feel the way it does. She kept making excuses instead of apologizing and taking accountability for what her assistant did to my hair. I spoke to a wonderful lady named Silvia who told me I could schedule the treatments and gloss I was offered when I felt ready but unfortunately, I do not feel comfortable returning to this salon or having any of them touch my hair. I don't imagine they do this often but again, they were very deceiving. If I wanted a beauty school level hair style I would have gone to Paul Mitchell or one of the beauty schools in the area. I paid a lot of money and my hair looks like crap. Do better, Ulta, you guys are a big corporation. Listen to your clients and just be honest.
